I got the basic Hiya Hiya set a few years ago and then wanted to add some of the larger needles to it without buying another set. I found that there is an adapter from Hiya Hiya that will let the larger needles (larger screw threads) fit the cords that come with the smaller needles set. The adapter is tapered enough to allow smooth movement from the cord to the needle. Love your videos!
I recently switched to Hiya Hiya sharps. I was worried about the tips being to pointy, as I had heard others mention the painful finger tips. However, this has not been an issue for me. I did a side by side knitting comparison with Chiagoo (sp?) And prefer the Hiya Hiya, mostly because of the cable, and it's flexibility. They never untwist, which I was having trouble with with Chiagoo. I also had a problem recently with wrist and arm pain from knitting. I realized that due to sheer laziness, I was using a set of Knitters Pride needles (which I have loved for years!) instead of my Hiya Hiya's. When I switched needles, all the pain went away. I think anyone who is knitting a lot owes it to themselves to test drive as many needle sets as they can. Pick your most common needle size, and get that size in different brands, before committing to full sets!
I had a knitters pride fixed circ and used in because all my other number 7s addies or chiagoos were in projects and the connection hangs the yarn all the time. I do not like Knitters pride, the wood ones. The cords do not fit the needle well. I so agree on trying different ones out. Thats how I started to love Chiagoos and then I got a set used only once by an ebay seller that didn't like them and got the whole set for 40.00. I love them.
Great idea! I'm a beginner but my heart skips a beat to all these beautiful eye twinkling sets which I dream to own. I end up not buying any and spend my money elsewhere. But your idea of buying and testing out what works for me first, just say a Chiagoo twist needle and a Hiya Hiya, and then a Chiagoo spin and a Lykee needle, in different sizes all for progects I want to work on for winter., test them out, THEN splurge and make the final decision between wooden or metallic needles. Long reply sorry! But I'm just so happy to finally know what do. Thanks again.
I started with Hiya Hiya's and loved the needles but not the cords. Then I tried ChiaoGoo and I have never looked back. The cords are amazing and the needles feel so good in my hands. I have found that the cables for both sets of interchangeable's come loose unless I use the rubber pieces to tighten them and I use the rubber with the ChiaoGoo as well. My husband bought me the complete set of ChiaoGoo's sizes 2-15, for Christmas 2 years ago and like I said they are my favorite. Thank you for your review.
If you’re a tight knitter like myself, Hiya Hiya is a game changer! The swivel cord helps the stitches escape my death grip! I bought both Hiya Hiya & ChiaGoo sets a few months ago & I only use the Hiya Hiya now. I can’t seem to achieve gauge without them! I’ve completed more projects in the last few months than in the past few years!
No te te vayas a dormir ya no te voy a molestar más ya no te vuelvo a molestar más OK OK OK está está está bien bien está está bien está bien bien bien está bien está está bien OK OK está bien está está
I purchased the Hiya-hiya sock interchangeables and WOW! I hate knitting socks and always used the magic loop which you definitely can do with this needles, but I have not only knitted 5 pairs of socks in as many weeks, I've knitted them ONE SOCK AT A TIME! I love these needles!
I have two sets of hiya hiya and am glad you got a chance to review them. I looovvvveee these and these are faaasstt!!!!! I use them religiously and they will improve your knitting by speed like nobody’s business. Highly recommend.
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Hiya Hiya Sharp Needles! I have both small and large sets - they're fantastic to work with and would never go back to what I used before (Denise Interchangeable. They're okay but they really can't compare to Hiya Hiya). I really love that they have a "twisting" cord (sorry for my bad English) which is a life savior for me. Lol. Thank you so much for this review, Staci! Love it! x Davie
I have tried the and purchased the Hiya Hiya interchanges and love them. The ChiaoGoo’s are a wonderful set of needles also. They are the next on my list to purchase. Knitters certainly have a great selection of tools for our craft. Thanks for the video.
I've been using HiyaHiya Sharps for many years and I love them. In the last year I bought a ChiaoGoo Mini set with those gorgeous flexible cords and I love them too. Yes, very similar tips, for sure. There is one thing I've discovered that has become indispensable and that is a ChiaoGoo adapter (Amazon) which converts a medium size needle to use with a mini cord. Those skinny, flexible mini cords are the only thing I use now.
I love my Hiya Hiya sharps. Every time I start a project on my addi or chiaogoo fixed circulars I find my self changing to the Hiya Hiya. I have had them for about two years and only this week clued in to the brilliance of the single point adapters which convert your tips into straight needles. I am using them now and they are great.
I agree with "shout it from the mountaintops" rave on the ChiaoGoo plastic wrapped steel cable. They have No cable memory AT ALL. I've got a few fixed length circulars and I love them. When/if I ever need to upgrade my interchangeable sets I know which brand is 1st on my wish list.
I agree. The cords are the best thing ever for circulars. I wish Chia Goo made more slicker needles. They're slick, but not as slick as the Addi Rockets or these Hiya Hiya needles.
Thanks for this comparison. I would add that the Hiya Hiya's are one of the lightest weight needles I've ever used. I was curious what the weight difference was between the Hiya's and the Chiaogoo's. Hiya Hiya's were almost 1/2 the weight of the Chiaogoo's. For people struggling with wrist strain or pain I would definitely suggest switching to the Hiya Hiya's. I also am curious to know what the difference is between the Hiya steel vs the Hiya sharps.
I have Chiaogoos, Knit Picks, Knitters Pride, Addi Clicks and Hiya Hiya. I know... however, my favorites are the Hiya Hiya, primarily because the cord spins. Chiaogoo also makes a ‘spinner’ cord for their interchangeable sets but they cost more.
When I finally admitted to myself the wisdom of interchangeable needles I consulted my LYS. I continue to be thrilled with the Chiaogoo needles. Of course I still remain curious about other sets so Thank You for these reviews. So, back to my knitting.
Thank you SO MUCH for pointing out the difference in texture on the needles. This is Chiagoo's breaking point for me. Not only does it slow me down, but when the needles slide across each other, the sound and feeling drives my senses crazy. Their cords are the only reason that i choose them over every other needle. If they were smooth like Hiya Hiyas, they would literally be the perfect needle set. GET WITH IT, CHIAGOO!
LOL! I absolutely LOVE the ChiaGoo red cables as well! I originally purchased my interchangeable ChiaGoos one or two at a time, and not knowing the difference between Spin and Twist cables and not realizing they, too, were interchangeable, I first purchased all the cables in the Spin (or clear plastic). They were nice enough, my first interchangeables. They'd occasionally break at the join, and I'd fix with a match flame and scissors, so that was that. Then, I discovered the Red Lace, or Twist, cables when I bought a set of mini ChiaGoos for knitting socks. They are the Alzheimer's of memory!! I then asked around and learned I could use the proper size of the Twist cables for my larger (small and large) needles and have started accumulating sizes of those. That being said, I want to thank you for another informative product review! You are always honest, and your vast experience goes a long way with your credibility. Plus, you're so much FUN!! :-)
amazing ...i always keep asking for advices ,which needle i should buy...or you can say i keep asking in my knitting groups for their needle experiences ....love it.thank u so much you teach me alot really
Thank you for the review it is very helpful. Currently using a size 4 ChiaoGoo for a finger weight sock yarn and love the feel compared to the knitters pride size 4 platina. It’s remarkable the difference between needles and the videos give so much info! Thanks Staci
Interesting! I find the Hiya Hiya needles sharper than Chiagoo. I've actually had to go back to using Chiagoo on a project because the Hiya Hiya needles kept piercing the skin of my finger. Lol But I love the way the yarn just glides so smoothly on the Hiya needles. I truly love them. But I do love the cords best on Chiagoo. Oh the dilemma. :)
gaddsm I love hiyas and love the sharp points ...to a point! The points are scratchy...I can take my nail and feel that they are not smooth. I brought them back to the shop and tried another pair...they too didn’t have smooth points. I know that if I draw those points across something like silk they will pull threads and not glide effortlessly. I brought back another brand once before and after checking their other needles they all had scratchy points. At least this clerk admitted it. The one that sold me the hits didn’t.
I have the deluxe set of HiyaHiya 5" sharps. I love them. Mine came with many more needle sizes, extra accessories, panda end caps, and were about $160.
Thanks for this! I have the Hiya Hiya sharps in the small size and I adore them and its super interesting seeing the comparison to the other brands. The small size are super sharp too
Thanks for the great review! I have the Hiya Hiya short tip sets in both large and small sizes. I like the short tips because I have small hands and they feel more comfortable to hold.
Thanks for another great review. I’m preparing to buy my first full set of interchangeable needles and really appreciate you talking about the slickness of the needles. I almost think I need slicker needles for certain yarns and more “toothy” needles for others. I wonder how many knitters feel the same.
I have ChiaoGoo Red Lace for my circulars and Hiyahiya sharps in my dpns and love them both for the sharpness, and the no memory cable. The thing to stress, however, is that there is a difference between Red Lace and regular ChiaoGoo needles. They are not the same needle, with the Red Lace being sharper.
Like most commenters, I would hybridize HiyaHiya needles with ChaioGoo cords if that were possible. However, HiyaHiya cords have less memory than everything else I have used. They do not get in my way as Addi cords most annoyingly do. My next purchase will be HiyaHiya sharps in the 5 inch small set. Love those points and their very “slickery” barrels. Speed demon knitting!
Love my HiyaHiya sharps, especially how slick and sharp they are-except for when I poke my finger. Ouch. If I could change anything, it would be to have HiyaHiya adopt Chiagoo cords, too. They are the best ever. I’ve had my small and large sets since 2012, and they are like new even though I knit every day. I highly recommend them.
I have short tip Hiya Hiya wood and I absolutely love them. I am using it now to make a washcloth for baby gifts and they are so nice to work with. I am seriously investing in the longer tip needle in the Hiya Hiya in wood. I also have the metal as well and they are wonderful too! :) Thanks for your review on the Hiya Hiya I was going to ask you to review them but you did! :)
I have metal in sharps in short tips. The long tip metal is regular (but you can get them in sharps I believe) and my wooden ones are not sharp as well but they do feel sharp. I hope I answered your question. :)
beadyarngal83 Yes you have. Thank you. I am more interested in the regular tip. I have enough sharp needles for lacework. I ordered one 40 inch Hiya Hiya fixed regular needle not the sharp and it was sharp! I have Addi’s for the blunt tip which I love. I’ve always been interested in the Hiya Hiya but none of the local yarn shops sell them where I live. Thanks again! Much appreciated!
Love the cases, those needles look high quality. I have a sweater knitting pattern that requires 16 and 24 circular needles, this video is making me anxious to start it.
I've never tried Hiya Hiya but heard they were really sharp, almost painful in the sock needle sizes. However, I love and use Chiagoo needles. I have Addi turbo but I like the sharp tip and LOVE the cords of the Chiagoo. Thanks for the review!
I love my Hiya Hiya sharps, but they have made me bleed. Right now the skin is peeling off my left index finger from using the Hiya Hiya sharps. I love tge needles, and the cases are beautiful to see and too touch, but those slippery needles slide right out of the silky cases. Chiao Goo also sells SPIN cables which rotate the cord. They are nylon cords, and they do spiral, especially if the cord is too long for the project. Any cord that spins takes some of the stress off my wrists and thereby reduces pain. You can't have too many needles. I knit a wide variety of projects, so I appreciate having the right tool for the project. In winter, in my cold, cold house, I'm glad to have Denise Interchangeables. They do not transfer the cold to my painful, arthritic hands. I like the short sharp tips best, but I recommend the regular sets as well for children, new knitters and people with hand mobility issues.
FYI ChiaoGoo Spins cable is very similar to HiyaHiya cables, nylon with a swivel. ChiaoGoo Twists are the red lace nylon covered steel wire with no memory. ChiaoGoo Spins tips are bamboo and all Spins and Twists parts are interchangeable.
I have the Knit Picks interchangeable, which I love. Then again, I really have no other interchangeable sets to compare them to yet. Have you ever done a review on the Knit Picks Brand? I would love to get your take on them in comparison to others. I have both the short set and long and both sets were under $50.😇 Thanks for your great channel, Staci!
The tips on the hiyahiya standards (not sharps) are nearly identical to the knitpicks IC nickel set. The main difference is that the knitpicks ones have a shorter taper. I use the knitpicks far more often tbh :)
I also love the knit pics. I have the new colorful ones. Love them. Great needles, actually my fave out of all the expensive ones. in this case, you get what you don't pay for!!!!!!
Just brought my and there nice but hollow. I been working with Boye interchangeable needles for years but , started use my hiya hiya a few days ago and there so smooth and fast.
I have both Chiaogoo and Hiya Hiya. My preferred set is Chiagoo. Hiya Hiya steel needles feel hollow while Chiagoo's feel more solid without the weight. And yes i love Chiagoo's cord.
I loved my Hiya Hiya needles until I found ChiaGoo! When using silk, the Hiya Hiya were far too slippery while the slight drag that the ChiaGoo has is of great benefit. I have noticed no appreciable difference in speed with either one.
I would be willing to try the Addi Turbos due to the shorter needle tips. The longer needle tips would produce a tighter stitch as it moves down the needle which some knitters apparently love. I prefer cables that straighten when taken out of the package. The Chiaogoo plastic-covered steel cables would suit me just fine. Oh, it would be divine if the cables and needles were interchangeable...sigh. I’ve tried interchangeable needles but find one side detaches due to the way I knit. Is there a set that stays intact even with certain motions?
My Hiya Hiya cable connector is stuck on one end of a cable. Is there a trick to making it easier to remove the connector? Please advise! Thank you! 7:50
I’ll answer this question myself just on the chance that it helps someone else. Yes my fixed ChiaGoo needle cords are totally different than the cord in the interchangeable set. I just received my set today so I can’t assess how well I like them yet but the first seem great!
I bought a set many years ago, and have never used them. I have never been able to connect the needle tips to the cables....absolutely, no way I can do it. The Hiya Hiya website is in Japanes, and never show how to connect! I would like to use these, and cannot figure out how! COMMENTS...Suggestions?
Just ran into this great comparison video. Wondering if any of these joining systems are compatible with my US made Dyakcraft needles? Had anyone checked?
Hiya Hiya Sharps don’t mess around. I tend to push my needle with my finger while knitting and the sharps have poked a hole. Ouch! I’ve had to use a thimble. The sock needles are worse. But I loooooooovvvvvveeeee them.
I kind of want the sock needles but the tips are scary sharp. I push the needle tips with my fingers to move stitches when I am knitting; its kind of automatic and I don't notice it unless I pay attention.
They're really just ordinary cables, with some memory if they're left curled up for a long time. But still high quality, nothing like the memory in cables from really inexpensive needles.
I have a dumb question. Can our hostess or anyone else tell me the needle length on the interchangeable sets? My 4 inch Knitters Pride round and cubic Platinas are only 4 inches long BUT my needle grip length is 5 inches. The 4 inch needles create cramps and also rhythm problems in my knitting pace. I really need longer needles on my interchangeables!
Needle sets that are made to accommodate needle lengths as short as 16" have the shorter, 4" needles. What I would call "regular" needle sets (no cords to make 16" needles) have longer cords, usually 5" before the cord is attached.
Using my Hiya Hiya interchangeable needles for the first time, I tightened with the grips and everything and they came apart while knitting! Do you check after a few rows to keep tightening them? Oy! Not really happy with the interchangeables.
I've heard this from knitters, across all brands. I pretty much exclusively use interchangeable needles (lots of brands), and in the last decade I've probably had my needles come apart just a few times. I can't explain why it happens to some knitters, but not others.
Would it be a bad idea to buy these if I'm a beginner and using bamboo? (I love circular needles, but want a set that's here to stay and great value for money)
No it wouldn't be a bad idea. I am a beginner. I tried everything and absolutely couldn't knit. Someone suggested I try Hyahya sharps so I just jumped in and purchased a set. OOOOOHHHHHHH my goodness I can finally call myself a knitter. I don't really know why but these worked for me. They are comfortable in my hands and I just love love love them. ( so far I have not had a problem with them sticking me.)
it s nice needles, especially the case!! I noticed that you prefer metals, and I am pretty sure that there are many people preferring the woods ones. Please review all woods, too! Not just metals. Please....
That's a good idea...I could do a comparison of different wood needles, side-by-side. A couple of weeks ago I featured a couple of different bamboo brands: ruclips.net/video/GoXFhyz9X8A/видео.html
Chiaogoo makes the bamboo interchangeable set called Chiaogoo Spin and it comes with the swivel cord that you can use with the Chiaogoo Twist metal set as well. I have the Chiaogoo Twist set an absolutely love them!
Thank you. Was trying to figure out how to budget a set of addi needles, now all I have to do is find some guys hiya needles instead. BF was listening to video and said he was sold at the cost. Lol.
I'm really disappointed that so many of the nicer sets only come in smaller sizes! I never use smaller than a size 6, and most often use size 11s to knit baby blankets and prayer shawls for my church. I've been known to use size 13s and even size 15s on occasion. Those are gorgeous needles; sad that I would never be able to use them. :(
Can you have too many types of needle sets? I find the more sets I have, the more wips I can leave on them and still do other things. Not good. I really should be more disciplined on finishing stuff.
Maybe we need to start a support group? Knitters Anonymous? The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Or just get together with others and finish up those projects?
Perhaps it's just how I choose to have my fingernails. The video is full of information about this needle set...seems that everyone else was able to focus on the content.

Hi Staci. Thanks again for a wonderful, honest review. I know this is off subject, but your nails are absolutely beautiful, both in color and length.

Love your reviews. I ended up buying a complete Chia goo set and love them. Thank you!

I agree. The cords are the best thing ever for circulars. I wish Chia Goo made more slicker needles. They're slick, but not as slick as the Addi Rockets or these Hiya Hiya needles.

Thanks for the review. I have been using different needles based alot on your reviews. Thanks for being so honest and up front about your reviews!
I just ordered the chiaogoo 4 inch and 5 inch completes set, I will receive them today I am so excited. I caught a good deal on Amazon❤️😍🥰
Hiyahiya are definitely the best, but I only use fixed neeedles 💙 Thanks !!

The hiyahiya standard needles are great general needles. I have the short tip set. Wish I got the 5 inch tips, they are more comfortable for my hands.

beadyarngal83 Do you have the regular or sharps?
Your welcome and hope you find them online because they are worth it! :)
I love the color of the case the wires look thin enough to be real flexible
really appreciated the needle point sharpness comparison!
Marty Little Thank you for that😀
I also love the knit pics. I have the new colorful ones. Love them. Great needles, actually my fave out of all the expensive ones. in this case, you get what you don't pay for!!!!!!
Thank you for the video, love my hiya hiya. The best needles ever!!
Too funny, I just noticed this brand needles on Amazon and was curious about how good/bad they were...thank you.
Thank you for doing these reviews because they are an investment!
I loved my Hiya Hiya needles until I found ChiaGoo! When using silk, the Hiya Hiya were far too slippery while the slight drag that the ChiaGoo has is of great benefit. I have noticed no appreciable difference in speed with either one.
Thanks! Planning on my first set soon... Which ones to buy? 😱
Hi. Thanks for the review. My only problem is that I can't use metal needles.😔 If I could, I think that hiya hiya would be my option.
We do our interchangeable range in bamboo as well :D
I would be willing to try the Addi Turbos due to the shorter needle tips. The longer needle tips would produce a tighter stitch as it moves down the needle which some knitters apparently love. I prefer cables that straighten when taken out of the package. The Chiaogoo plastic-covered steel cables would suit me just fine. Oh, it would be divine if the cables and needles were interchangeable...sigh. I’ve tried interchangeable needles but find one side detaches due to the way I knit. Is there a set that stays intact even with certain motions?
Thanks for the in-depth review.
My Hiya Hiya cable connector is stuck on one end of a cable. Is there a trick to making it easier to remove the connector? Please advise!
Thank you! 7:50
Hiya hiya swivel cords are the best! No twisting while knitting!
I only have ChiaoGoo in the fixed needles and the cords are way too stiff. Are the cards in the Interchangeables different? Thanks for your review.
Question: how does the Nova Platina differ from the Hiya Hiya?
I love my square needles by Kollage. Less stress on fingers
Hello, could you please review the Pony Complete set?
That brand is new to me, I'll check it out. Thank you!
Thank you!!
Hi Staci. Do the cables have a lot of "memory?" Love your videos and podcasts! I listen at night when my husband watches TV or if I wake in the night.
They're really just ordinary cables, with some memory if they're left curled up for a long time. But still high quality, nothing like the memory in cables from really inexpensive needles.
Love you nails
Very informative. Thanks
I love my hiya hiya sharp needle set
Great video. Nice you don't need tools.
What is the advantage of a 4” needle over a 5”
No real advantage, just personal preference. I don't have a big preference, either way.
Thanks for the review
I have found that they come unscrewed often. No idea why, maybe it's the way I knit.
it s nice needles, especially the case!!
Good vid.
Thank you
❤️❤️
The large-size set I show in this video includes sizes US 11, 13, and 15.
So sorry, I didn't catch that. I'll have to take another look at those. Thanks!!
Can you have too many types of needle sets? I find the more sets I have, the more wips I can leave on them and still do other things. Not good. I really should be more disciplined on finishing stuff.
ME! I can't believe how many WIP's I have now... I have 11 sets of needles and very few needles in the cases... I think I may have a problem!
Maybe we need to start a support group? Knitters Anonymous? The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Or just get together with others and finish up those projects?
I wish you had shown the Addi lace needles against these instead of the turbos.
I can’t get past looking at those fingernails. Perhaps they need trimming.
Perhaps it's just how I choose to have my fingernails. The video is full of information about this needle set...seems that everyone else was able to focus on the content.
