- General Electric F110 Afterburning Turbofan Jet Engine | F-16 Fighting Falcon | The General Electric F110 is an afterburning turbofan jet engine produced by GE Aviation. The F110 engine uses the same engine core design as the General Electric F101. The F118 is a non-afterburning variant. The engine is also license-built in Eskisehir, Turkey by TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI)
The F-16 Fighting Falcon entered service powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100 #afterburning #turbofan. Seeking a way to drive unit costs down, the USAF implemented the Alternative Fighter #Engine (AFE) program in 1984, under which the engine contract would be awarded through competition. The F110 currently powers 86% of the USAF F-16C/Ds (June 2005).
The F110-GE-100 provides around 4,000 lbf (17.8 kN) more thrust than the F100-PW-200 and requires more air, which led to the increase in the area of the engine intake. The F-16C/D Block 30/32s were the first to be built with a common engine bay, able to accept both engines, with block 30s having the bigger intake (known as "Big Mouth") and block 32s retaining the standard intake.
Initial orders were for the F110-GE-100 rated at 28,000 lbf (125 kN). Later versions of the F110 include the F110-GE-129 delivering 29,400 lbf (131 kN) thrust and the F110-GE-132 delivering 32,000 lbf (142 kN)
The United Arab Emirates’ Block 60 is powered by the General Electric F110-GE-132 turbofan, which is rated at a maximum thrust of 32,500 lbf (144.6 kN), the most powerful variant of General Electric F110 engine.

To think that if you were to take two F-16 Vipers and cut the opposing wing off of each aircraft and then fuse the two together you would have the same thrust as the F-14B Tomcat had.

My dad was an ART on F111's , F4's , F105D's, and block 10,20,40's F16 A/B/C/D's... when our home switched over from Tactical Fighters and went to Tankers dad worked on KC135R's til his retirement in 2008 USAF/ and 2019 civil service (40yrs total service)
I was a motor mac on that same engine. Colorado Air National Guard. @ 7:49 sound takes on a new definition. With headphones and maxed out volume you still wouldn't get the full effect.That sound becomes a force of nature.

From what I recall, it's bolted to a trailer about the same way it's bolted to the jet. Test stand is on casters that are bolted to the floor, never asked how the trailer was secured during runs but I would estimate it's between 12-24 bolts total between engine to stand and stand to floor.
With the f110 engine being in the 30,000 pound thrust class, they're probably pretty strong bolts.

Its not measured in PSI if it was it would be a HUGE amount. I work on F100 engines which is extremely similar to this one. F100s power F15s and F110s for 16s.
The compressor produces a huge volume of air at only moderate pressure. The pressure gain is in the diffuser case where ignition occurs. The diffuser transforms high velocity medium pressure air into lower velocity high pressure air for combustion.
