      I think they just said it that way because the Navy was shopping for a replacement at the same time as the Air Force, and both looked into the F16, just so happens the Navy decided the hornet fit their needs better, while the Air Force went forward with the 16. It's not that what they said was inaccurate, it was just incomplete.

  • @PaulJosephdeWerk
    @PaulJosephdeWerk Год назад +18

    The rudder is not used to turn the aircraft left or right. The rudder is used to maintain the position of the nose of the aircraft (so that its going where it's pointing). Turning an aircraft is acheived by rolling the aircraft and pulling up. Depending on how tight turn needs to be more or less roll and more or less up stick is used.
    Also, the combustion of fuel is further back in the engine, thr frint section is the compressors for compressing the incoming air.

      @@Aitelly indeed, the F-14 was incredibly expensive and retired in favor of the F/A-18 in no small part due to that reason, however the F-16 was developed at roughly the same time period as the F-14, and was developed for entirety different reasons (low cost light weight fighter) for the Air Force than the F-14 for the navy (fleet defense fighter). These 2 aircraft didn’t really have anything to do with each other as their roles were so opposite, so to my knowledge as Iv looked around, I can find no mention of the F-16 even being considered to replace the F-14. A little fun fact: The block designations for the F-16 either end with a zero or with a two. If the designations ends with zero, example F-16C Block 50, that means that it uses the General Electric F110 engine, but if the designation ends with a two, example F-16C Block 52, that version has the Pratt and Whitney F100 engine. (Although this applies only to Block 30,32 and forward as that is when the F110 was first introduced to the F-16)

    1. The performance of the F-5, which the U.S. made to South Vietnam in the Vietnam War, was better than expected, and shocked by the maneuverability of the North Vietnamese Mig-21, the U.S. Air Force realizes that cheap, high-performance, lightweight fighter jets are possible. So, LWF is a lightweight, high-performance, half-priced fighter introduction program that complements the high-performance F-15 with numbers, where the YF-16 and YF-17 will be contested and the YF-16 will be chosen to become today's F-16.
    2. The F-15 was a high-performance fighter that replaced the U.S. Air Force's F-4 and F-106, but it was too expensive to maintain, and was under budget pressure due to oil shocks and the Vietnam War at the time, so the F-15 could not fully replace the number of the existing F-4s. That's why the LWF program, a new concept of cheap lightweight, high-performance fighter jets, was ordered.
    3. The U.S. Navy, which was under the same budget pressure as the U.S. Air Force at the time, was receiving orders from the U.S. Congress to introduce lightweight fighters. So it subsidizes the F-14 and A-6, has a cheap, high-performance, lightweight fighter NACF program to replace the F-4 and A-7, and the U.S. Navy chooses the YF-17, which was already designed to save on development costs, and this is the F/A-18 Legacy Hornet.
    4. The F/A-18 Legacy Hornet was built with the same lightweight fighter as the F-16, so it couldn't replace the F-14 because of its small armament and cambat range, so it completely replaces the F-14 by creating a new F-18E/F, which is 40% more in size.

    I want to mention that “fly by wire” means the stick does not directly control the craft, the stick gives instructions to the aircraft’s computer and the computer figures out the best way to accomplish the orders, this aircraft is also an intentionally unstable aircraft, so the computer has to constantly fix the course, the exchange for this is better maneuvering.
    This is also why the F-16 has perfectly straight wings on the middle of the fuselage, instead of on top or angled on the bottom as other fighters.

    The F18 hornet replaced the F14 tomcat not the F16. The F16 wasn't even considered for the navy so basically the F16 more likely replaced the F4 phantom.

    i believe the MiG-21 was actually the most widely produced military aircraft overall, with the F-4 being the largest produced American aircraft for export. The F-16 is designed to replace both of these fighter jets for foreign countries

      Btw they ripped the models and textures from war thunder. The scratch Marks and wear in the paint on the F-16 are exactly the same it looks to be the F-16A but with the blue on the tail panted over. And the mig-21 looks like it's the Mig-21PFM from war thunder as well.
