I'm finishing up meditations and I am really enjoying it. Its easy to see how Stoicism would benefit someone who got a raw deal (slave, sick, tough breaks), with Aurelius we see one of the most powerful men in the world use Stoicism as a means to write a self help book for himself, to guide him as a civil servant and human. And while mostly Stoic Marcus also brings up other philosophers, even the Epicureans, the rival of the Stoics. Aurelius' is about as close as one is going to get to Plato's philosopher king, and Plato may be the only ancient philosopher who is as easy to read as Marcus. I enjoyed Dr. Sadlers video on the Meditations, he has a way of reinforcing the most important themes of the work that gets some of the philosophy to stick in my head, not always an easy task.
some poetry: the north star is my pivot and staff. It rests deep in the earth like a rudder. If I wander from it I am torn apart. I am weak, so there are times I must practise silence. Someone once said that when the mind contemplates an object it becomes that object. What is the diameter of the orbit of the north star? The end is the beginning.
Thanks for video, trying to work on my daily shortcomings, couldn't find much in phenomenology, but find it vital. 31:41 to end, really spoke to me, passive- aggression is something i try to keep in check all day long. Bravo!!

Doing the right thing is probably the easiest thing to do. I just have to connect to that and it's done. Thank you for this video.
