- No matter what kind of washing machine you use, kitchen cloths retain a bad smell even after washing. As I'm not a big fan of chlorine, I prefer to do what my grandma was doing: boiling them for a few minutes with a bit of detergent. 👇 More info below 👇
Okay, grandma was using home made soap, but I don't have that so I use a dishwaser detergent tablet instead. Works also with clothes detergent for manual washing.
Just boil them for 2 minutes, then simmer for 5-10 minutes and then rinse them well with clean water.
They're good to go as they are, but I like to leave them for another 5 minutes in clean water with a few drops of lemongrass essential oil. So if you'd like your kitchen cloths, towels and sponges to have a nice scent, just drop a little essential oil of your choice in the final rinsing water.
This is an old tested method for disinfecting and deep cleaning any fabric and I like it because it's also fast and it really works. And to me it seems that they get out much cleaner than from the washing machine.
And voila! Looking good? Smelling even better!
Do try it if you stumble upon my video, and let me know how it went for you.

Glad you shared this tip. I've done this while I sipped my morning coffee for years and years.
You are doing god's work woman. Thank you so much! The smell - instantly gone! Also that comment on adding white vinegar - I think that worked quite well!
Amazing tip! Never would have thought about adding essential oils! Thanks a lot!
If they are really stinky, add a Tbsp of white vinegar to the boiling water
And I boil them for 30 min with vinegar first
NO softener ... it prevents cloth towels and Microfiber from drying things properly - hands, glasses, and dishes - AND it tends to trap microbes and smells.
I have used vinegar, Dawn soap, both together, boiled for half an hour...still grease. This worked so well they are clean, water was so gross. TY
Thank you so much!!! This really works and is super easy... I just used the dishwashing tablet like recommended.
Excellent. Exactly what I was looking for! ty...
Thanks for the useful vid!
Im learning the things that my mother learned.
I live alone so i have to do everything myself.
Brilliant thank you ❤
Soak in tea overnight. (A great tip from a friend )
Won't the tea dye it dark color?
A used tea bag, or a diluted tea. It doesn't stain
NO SOFTENER in Microfiber cloths
What about just boiling in water without toxic detergent. Maybe add soda bicarb and vinegar?? Any thoughts folks?
Soda+vinegar produces water. So you're basically washing with water.
can i clean my clothes this way?
thanks
cheaper then paper towels
Next toss them in the oven on broil until well done
Nothing beats the crispy crust on the outer layer!
😂 Are you serious??
