- A military band broke into a Daft Punk medley, lightening the mood after a tribute to the victims of the 2016 Nice attack during a military march in Paris attended by both French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump.
Trump was in Paris as part of a state visit to mark Bastille Day, the French National Day commemorating the storming of the Bastille in 1789 during the French Revolution.
July 14 is also the anniversary of the Nice attack. After marching in formation to spell out the word NICE, in tribute to the victims of the attack, the band broke out the Daft Punk tracks, much to Macron’s enjoyment. Trump, however, looked unimpressed.

I think it's great how they embrace the modern nation they represent. Sure, an anthem or 300 year old patriotic song is all cool, but France has changed a lot, and it's great they at least honour a little part of that by honouring Daft Punk, one of the most influential French, and electronic music creators of this age!

Pretty sure that’s due to the sound traveling a long distance to and from the audience. If you’ve seen a marching show (no, not a parade), the sound takes a bit to get to you, so the drum major looks wrong, as well as the marching itself sometimes depending on a lot of things. With a crowd like this clapping, some hear the music later, and then the clapping is delayed towards the audio recorder, making it seem really off.

they're pretty far from the band and problems like that are extremely common in marching band performances because there's a slight sound delay at greater distances. We don't know where the mic is for this performance but there's a pretty big gap between the band and the audience so there's a chance that they hear themselves clapping at the same time we do.

Honest to god Daft Punk has to be one of the, if not THE, most influential electronic music composers ever. The fact that they made music that’s holds up as electronic staples, remixes into god knows how many songs, and now played during international leadership meetings is something that not many electronic composers, or many modern day composers AT ALL, can say their work has achieved.

@@noah3384 yes, I was going to say - Jean Michelle Jarre started earlier, relied on much simpler technology, holds records for the size of his concerts, and his first tour of China was of international significance. In my view he's far more politically, technologically and musically significant than Daft Punk.
He is also French, and his music is also super-catchy, however I doubt he would have allowed for his music to be performed for the sake of Mr Trump.

This is a unique tribute to both France and the USA. Daft Punk is French but this is the Grammy winning arrangement done by Pentatonix, an American group.
Of course, these songs by Daft Punk wouldn't exist without them making a playlist. Also, Macron must be so proud of Pentatonix, for some reason. Really, I don't understand why they didn't get all the credit...!

No one is saying that Daft Punk isn't great. Their music is very popular and the French can take pride in their native sons. Pointing out that the French were cleverly using an arrangement by an American Group to make it a double compliment is in no way detrimental to the original musicians.

Plus the point is not to determine if Daft Punk is great or not, they created these songs, and Pentatonix didn't create anything.
