- Today we received our newest look at netflix's avatar the last airbender live action.. on the winter solstice.. how fitting.
We got our first looks for Jett, Gran gran, Suki's mom and the mechanist.. Along with a new image of Aang with hei bai

I like the change of Suki's mom being there. It reminds us that she is still a child, even if she's shouldered with so much responsibility and is so well respected. She is still a kid.
Yeah now that I think about it Suki was the only member of Team Avatar that didn't have any parents in the original series and as far as I know they never explained what happened to them so her having a mother in the live action series just makes sense and it doesn't change the overall story at all
@@lordfoul6259 Tbf, her involvement in the story wasn't massive enough to warrant it (like zuko).
Also Aang didn't have parent, but he was also an air nomad and over 100 years old.
Not to mention it's a little weird that in the original they had a male leader, especially given the themes and ideas surrounding the kyoshi warriors, just seems like it makes more sense this way.
It's dumb and so not needed suki is supposed to be independent

I dont care what some people say, the casting is perfect. Every character is on point, just as i would imagined them. Netflix has done a great job on that departement

nah aang looks too much younger than sokka and katara. aang actually looks 12 meanwhile katara and sokka both look 16+. they are supposed to be 14.
edit: sokka was actually 15, and is gonna be 16 in the netflix series. my point still stands 😂

Yes, it's the STATUE of Hei Bai in the background there. The image implies that we might be getting a live action version of monster Hei Bai since it matches the imagery of the show so far, and if so, I hope it looks awesome.

The air temple episode was also very important in the story line because that’s how the fire nation discovered hot air balloons and they used those in the dozens comet episodes where Sokka,Suki and toph all fought on
They likely cut the battle and have the he still making weapons story since if not ehy would they shpw him as his only other role is book 3

It's not Hei Bai in the panda form, it's a bear statue where Aang meditates in the original series, except here he sits next to it and not on top of it

June well since you pointed out that that looks like she’s riding a wolf. It concerns me of how many hybrid like animals they’re gonna put in the live action series. I know there are some occurrences with normal animals being here and there I just hope they don’t have too much normal animals because I like the hybrid like animals that they put into the show if it makes the world unique
Normal animals were definitely somewhat of a rare occurrence in the original series, Bosco being one of them
There's a chance they'll make it a wolf-hybrid of some kind. Which if so, I'm onboard with because wolves are cool as hell and wolves have pretty good noses so it's the perfect animal for tracking someone.
Then again, normal animals are such a rarity and June is such a minor character, maybe they'll give her a normal wolf but every other animal we see before and after are still hybrids.
Only time will tell. Either way, her live action counterpart looks so danged good and spot on. I'm now excited for the show again :)
@@santosic the thing is, we don’t know if they even changed the shirshu. If you look at it in the animated series, you can see that it’s ears look like that anyway

Normal animals absolutely appeared and wolves distinctly are one of the few, that and bears mainly
danny pudi is the absolute PERFECT actor for the mechanist
Suki's mom being the leader now seems like a change that shouldn't have any real impact. I think they just wanted to lean into the matriarch of Kyoshi Island and how it's basically lead by all women.
Yeah, that fact definitely makes sense for sure but it's still a little odd to change from having the old man being the mayor of the village when this is what the creators did for the original series. I'm not saying this is a terrible change but I guess it's just weird to see right now. I'm sure it'll be fine once we see this live action series when it aires in Feb.

I honestly like the Suki’s mother being the mayor change, especially since they mentioned she’s a former Kyoshi warrior, I don’t think it’ll effect much, but having Suki also be dealing with wanting to live up to her warrior and leader mother could really be a point of commonality for her and Sokka. Something for them to talk about more seriously rather than just having them spar and flirt.
It could bring up the source of Sokka’s insecurities earlier, which will be especially important given how prominent a role Hakoda plays from end of book 2 onwards.
That’s if they do it right of course, but honestly I don’t think it’ll affect much. TBH I did used to think having a man in charge of Kyoshi Island never fully made sense anyway
Suki wanting to live up to her mother paralleling Sokka is actually pretty great
It sorta makes sense, given Avatar Kyoshi's backstory, but only in that narrative sense. They can probably make the story more interesting if they ditch that little arc. We don't need them to reenact the past. That was Kyoshi's story, it doesn't need to be Aang's.

Nah this isn't it. The old mayuor was a great neat character and they should refrain wholly from changing anything, only ADDING things.
@@Luka1180 Look, agree to disagree, but the fact that you didn't know his name, and I didn't know until googling it that it was Oyaji says something about how significant he really was to the story. Removing him from the story really isn't going to affect anything, but adding Suki's mother to the story and giving her some more backstory could be an interesting detail.
The story is going to be told in an entirely different format, eight hour long episodes rather than twenty twenty-four minute episodes, cutting and changing things will be necessary to make it function smoothly. Not to mention that there are definitely changes that SHOULD be made because the original writers hadn't planned everything out when they started the show. Suki wasn't even supposed to be a reoccurring character at first, they brought her back due to fan popularity, and given how underutilized she is by the writers and how forgotten she was in legend of Korra, I think giving her a little bit more history and personal motivation could be good for establishing her as a fully realised character.
June has got to be the best cartoon to live action character casting ever. But seriously, so far all the characters look amazing imo.

I'm so glad they feel free to change things from the original cartoon. I was afraid they'd be too faithful and simply rely on making things live action. They need to to give us something new that was never in tht show for this version to justify its own existence.
God it feels good with a live action adaptation that keeps the look of the original characters! (looking at you Disney!)

It makes sense to have Suki's mom as the mayor. The mayor from the series wasn't really interesting anyway (Suki's mom is already much more interesting story-wise), and it also turns the Kyoshi-village into an all-female powerhouse. It makes sense.

Bro ur theories about the characters and episodes are always so dumb lmao, ofcourse they’re gonna do the airtemple episode that’s the mechanists only purpose in season 1, and saying that they don’t have the budget for it(when we know they do) doesn’t make sense. and casting suki’s mom also makes more sense adding more character to suki cause she was kinda underused in season 1
When people talk about Aang's clothes looking new, I believe they are referring to how "new" the colors look. People are expecting some color fading, I think.
They have to do the northern air temple scene. It is integral. How are they explaining how the fire nation got the War Balloons?
I think the Jet screenshot could be at the abbey where the fight with June happened in the original show, they could be keeping the location but changing a few details. They haven’t cast Bato as far as I’ve heard, so they could be moving the fight with June as an extra complication while trying to stop Jet from flooding the village.
That June costume is pretty good, but her side bangs are on the wrong side 😇
The idea of them making a live action scares me so much, especially with Earth bending 😢 I am so nervous as to how they'll go about it

It would make sense to have Suki’s mom. She could have learned everything from her. What if the history of the Kyoshi warriors spanned generations and Suki’s mom was a warrior at one point?

I wonder if the mechanist will be a fire nation prisoner instead of willingly working for them. That would make him a more sympathetic character. Especially of Teo is being held prisoner.
I think every one of us was at least a little skeptical how this dude would look as the mechanic is but HOLY SHIT he is in my opinion the best transition into live action in the show revealed yet

I think the Kyoshi Island is a sort of matriarchal mini society. Maybe that's what they're trying to portray. So Sokka looks like even more of a fool when he arrives with his misogynistic views.
How are you getting cow??? I got panda in that sitting position they sometimes do. It just seems to have some features of Heybi's other form like in the arms and what seems to be it's left knee. Could be wrong though.

The casting looks perfect to me, the only one I'm skeptical of is Azula, she looks way too nice, I can't see her being intimidating at all. But, we'll just have to wait and see
At this point the few remaining haters of the adaptation seem to be in make-believe denial.
There's absolutely nothing to be cautious about - the music is there, the suits are spot on, the casting is phenomenal and many scenes will be recreated 1x1 to the source material.

Are you following the live action properly? They are doing the air temple episode. They’ve casted both the Mechanic and Teo. Ian Ousley even spoke about how much he loved working together with Daniel Pudi, and we know a key part of the Northern Air Temple episode is Sokka and the Mechanist working together to make the airship.
They could just change the location from the Airtemple to somewhere in the Earth Kingdom. The background in the photo looks more like an Earth Kingdom place than the Northern Airtemple.

I feel like Suki's mom won't really affect much, might be a nice add on. They might make it a "daughter wanting to walk her own path vs mother wanting her to be next leader" sort of sidestory, which could be good if written well. I hope this isn't a Netflix checklist moment to appease the investors and corporate, at the expense of good story telling and dialogue.
Every character and scene looks perfect and I'm so glad they've brought Suki into this version... I wondered who the mayor was, but I'm glad she's actually her mother. I always thought something was missing from her character. She seemed too optimistic to have no family to be fighting for. So I'm happy with that change

I hope this series eventually is released onto Amazon Prime because I'm not going to subscribe to Netflix again just to watch this series. The actors they chose to play the live action characters has been excellent choices so far as their appearance goes. I hope the series is as good as or better than the animated series.

Pretty sure they have not started working on season 2. I don’t believe it’s even been green lit yet, which makes sense since they don’t know how well the show will do.
I'm also concerned about this, but Aang goes through so much in the series that he looks so much older at the end of Fire compared to the beginning of Water. So I'm not too concerned about it unless it takes them a while to greenlight 2 and 3.

To be fair, you can hear the puberty changing the voices of Aang and Toph in the animated series. I’d rather they age up the characters than cast new actors - THAT would be jarring.

Why would June be riding on a wolf when Nyla is an anteater (maybe wolf hybrid, but definitely still anteater) with a tongue that’s used to paralyze.
