I met Klaus Nomi at a performance he was doing, I was working Security with several other people, He came over to us and spent about ten minutes meeting us and talking. I found it amazing he was so approachable and friendly. After the show, he came back and we chatted more, we were all surprised he remembered our names. I felt he was such a warm and genuine person for the short time I actually got to speak to him. I was sad when I learned of his passing.

@@EphemeralProductions This happened a week before he and Joey were on Saturday Night Live. I had met Joey at Fiorucci earlier in the week, he introduced me to Klaus. We partied a bit at the Mudd Club and other dives that week. Klaus and I had planned to get together my last night in NYC, we were to meet at a location on Christopher Street but he never showed. I was disappointed to say the least but I didn't call him or anything, I just let it go. I never saw or spoke with him again. I have had a couple of dinners with Joey when he was working in Vegas. It was an unexpected and super fun week hanging with them. We would walk the streets with Klaus, sometimes he burst out singing Lightning Strikes or The Witch is Dead. Loudly echoing against the buildings. Very sweet down-to-earth guy. One wouldn't think it by looking. ; )

@@PH-ye5fj yeah he does seem like he was a cool and sweet guy. Maybe a little big in the head as time went on, and a little inconsiderate ( seeing that he stood you up, without even phoning), but it’s very possible something came up and he couldn’t phone because he lost your phone number. Either way, it was “his bad” but we all make mistakes and I’m glad you let it go and have good things to say about him. Hugs!

I'm like you, as a singer his range is amazing. When I discovered him in college I loved to practice to Klaus songs cause I have the falsetto, but nowhere near that tone. Love his commitment to the performance and his otherworldly vibe.

They had no chance...nobody saw it coming. As Paul Gambacchini once said, talking about Freddie Mercury: "The damage was done before anybody knew it could be done." Even Klaus learned about the disease from TV, not earlier than when he had yet checked into hospital for what should be his final stint, there. What he may have known before is that he wasn´t terribly well, but nobody had the glimpse of an idea what that thing was, at the time. He probably caught it in the mid 70s...when not even the typical cluster of symptoms had appeared on the medical radar and everybody was acting careless AF, because the most horrific thing you were going to bring home from a night at the dark room was a tripper or crab louse.

I love the contrast between Klaus and the band.
They're all dressed in typical late 70s/early 80s style with no real costume, and Klaus is a goddamn space alien. They're professionally focusing on their instruments and Klaus is flying up and down through octaves like it ain't no thang.

    It's a total eclipse
It's a total eclipse of the sun
Can't come to grips with the total eclipse
Just a slip of the lips and you're done
    Fall out
    Nobody left to crawl out
    If someone calls
    We're all out

No bother at all! We loved working with Klaus. Contrary to what was said
about our band in the Andrew Horn documentary, we were hardly a bunch of
studio mercenaries. We just happened to have a lot more experience than
the musicians that Klaus had played with before he was introduced to us.
We were thrilled to play on his records and live shows. He even recorded
Wasting My Time which was written by our guitarist Scott Woody. So I think
he liked working with us too.

I didn't even know who the singer was, but the news shoked me, I had pity for him and for all the gay people... Soon, I lerned that the desease kills no matter the sexual orientation you had. So, like all the world, I learned how to fear about AIDS. But my fear, since then, has always been related to the memory of poor Klaus Nomi.

Klaus was mainly an underground German artist even if he sang for instance with David Bowie or other more "popular" artists. Very original singer with an out of sight voice. He was on stage in Europe and the US..
If I'm not mistaken , Klaus was one of the first legendary Queer. He left us too early..

@@catherinefotic4614 Any particular Bowie tunes he's featured on? Honestly, I don't like this song but can appreciate his voice and the musicianship. Maybe I'd like other songs of his. Idk how this got on my feed but I'm intrigued.

I think that he has two children..
