1:58 what note is that... She has a 5 or 6 octave range. People were making a big deal out of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston in the 80s. I just discovered her and I think she's fantastic. Just completely weird and wonderful. Very talented and creative and of course being in German it takes on a whole new vibe. Goth & Punk bands to follow owe a lot to Nina Hagan.
Yep, she's awesome - great singer and amazing performer. Complete control over her voice and very unique style. I'm glad I came across this. And I really love the guitar solo - super simple, yet so powerful and visceral... Really dig it.
I saw her in Toronto in the late 80's early 90's...she open the show with this song and she blew everyone away. I bet everyone who was there remembers the performance.
Yeah, her operatic vocals coupled with those guitar riffs make a great sound. I'm just wondering what that chicken 🐔🍗 mimicry at the end of her song was all about. Anyway, it was all very beautiful.
Weird how you can tell it's genuinely getting better over time. I really liked this, even though I pretty much exclusively listen to synthwave these days.
Oh man. Haven't heard this song for years. Hearing it again made me realize how much she influenced my life when I was a teenage member of the No Future generation. She teamed up with our one and only real rock n roll star Herman Brood. Both were artists who did loads of drugs. Crazy times. Raw life.
An amazing piece of music. The video, the camera shots, the camera angles is even more 1979ish than 1979 itself. And Nina's overall performance is just flawless!
Been listening to Nina Hagen since 1982 and, with the benefit of hindsight, IMHO this is possibly the greatest four minutes of her long & glorious career. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but that's how I feel.
You probably know it, but anyway, starts with: G6/D, F#7/C#, Fmaj7/C, E, then the same but all with E in the bass. The beauty is that all four chords have the note E in common.
I came here by accident... started skipping around, started laughing, wanted to hate it but now I'm listening to it for the third time and about to look for some more from her.... so.... yeah.
Everybody is talking about the vocals and such. I speak German and it’s the lyrics. The vocals just push the emotions of „crying“ to a next level. Looking out on the window and sobbing? (Parts of the lyrics) This is how it sounds inside of you and Nina just described it in words and gave it a voice. That’s why I love punk and performances that show true passion. „Punkrock should mean freedom, liking and accepting anything that you like, playing whatever you want, as sloppy as you want, as long as it’s good and has passion“ - pg.99
Except a genre doesn't mean you can do what you want, but rather do what you can from what you are inspired from (plus many other factors as mix of individual preferences and skills in music, their decisions together, and so on). Punk-Rock surely got a great deal of artists, but compared to many genres... You'll always find more doomed ones or more liberated ones. By the way, thanks to put the meaning of the lyrics, because I was waiting for that... I felt that there was a purpose, but I was only in a myst. So thanks! :)
@@Donjonneau The song is called "nature tears" and she describes looking out the window at night down on the city street and describes the scenery outside and she is overwhelmed with negative emotions and just cries. It is basically an anxiety attack put in a song (at least just judging from the lyrics, maybe there is a personal backstory she has). I find this song and this performance one of the best pop performances ever sung in German language. It might sound a bit surreal and extra but that entirely replicates the emotion one feels when just crying for no particular reason but the state of the world or one's life.
She is a goddess, reborn as a powerful singer. This song (not understanding German) drive me in another world, where everything is great. Thank you Nina for your courage and talent
It's basically a reminescence of a poetic classical song with lyrics about nature - her: watching a colorful sunset from her window (probably in 70ie's Berlin), melancholic feelings and thoughts, sung with quite lyrical vocabulary, however also mixed with everyday words and banalities (like the sound of a motorcycle), the whole thing sounds more like an ironic parody of a nature poem. Which makes it so special. Add her trained opera voice with crazy vibrato to it (that also falls into crazy nonsense sounds and rock singing) and it makes an amalgan no other female singer has ever achieved before and after. Each time she screams 2 octaves above normal, and precisely, I have shivers over my spine. Only Deep Purples Ian Gillan could scream just as beautifully in "child in time".
Only just found this woman. I love her sense of style, not sure yet what to think about her music but I really do appreciate that she marched to the beat of her own drum. I can’t help but think that a song with Nina and Kate Bush would have been super trippy.
3:32 I love it when she just shows her tongue to the guitarrist when she catches him looking at her while she screams!! she is sooo good and so underrated
Great catch with the tongue, but what the *_FUCK_* are you talking about, "underrated" :DDDDD nowadays kids don't know shit anymore. She is the mother of punk for a reason!!
Still watching in 2019. Not just weird, people. Skilled. Beautiful. Wonderful. Amazing. Nina makes it looks goofy but that voice is amazing. Those are trained pipes. What a woman!
actually she grew up in socialist East Germany and was not accepted in opera for having 'suspicious' contacts... this is why she is not an opera singer... anyway... she would have been become Nina Hagen in either ways...

Hurts the soul, how beautiful!
Nature in the evening, silent city
Broken soul, tears streaming,
All this makes one powerfully weak
And I just simply keep on crying...
Hope this helps!!
Having a famous opera singer for a mother helped surely
Couldn't say it better. Amen bro
She hits a E6!
The brown note
@@captainspaulding2693 You are a brown note.
Same! Listening to her for the first time. She is amazing!
Her Mother was a Opera Singer.
why all the hate? this is beautiful and unique. i love it!!
diet drama This song is dope as fuck, and Nina Hagen is like probably my favorite singer next to Zora Cock from Black Briar
I don't think it's hate. Just out of work comedians trying out their punchline prowess.
Not liking something doesn't mean it's hate.
what hate ? dislike your comment and report.
@@edybocman76 Why? You should dislike and report comments that ARE hate, not stuff you just don't agree with. wtf
I LOVE THIS ... THANKS FOR MAKING THIS NINA AND BAND
she makes all of these confusing but very impressive noises and then makes chicken sounds when she's done with the song lol. what a hero
Legend 😂😍
They'd cure her, but they need the eggs.
The noises shall represent a crying person. The text in the beginning ends with the words:,,I just want to go on crying quietly"
She is a good singer and can probably cast spells

Yep, she's awesome - great singer and amazing performer.
Complete control over her voice and very unique style. I'm glad I came across this.
And I really love the guitar solo - super simple, yet so powerful and visceral... Really dig it.
❤❤❤
Never heard this song before, but wow.. what a sound... and performance..
She sure had a set of lungs
Her voice is amazing. She pronounces every word perfectly,so crisp.
Hello how are you
I don't know if it's a obsession or something but I have been watching this video 5 times at least every day since I discovered it...
I really feel you
Go to see the doctor
I feel you!
I know, I can’t stop coming back!
💖💖💖💖
And this is the moment I know I've discovered something amazing tonight.
Had that moment last week.
I saw her in Toronto in the late 80's early 90's...she open the show with this song and she blew everyone away. I bet everyone who was there remembers the performance.
Yes , I was there 👍👍 CoOL show
Her vocal technique is insanely good
Yeah, her operatic vocals coupled with those guitar riffs make a great sound. I'm just wondering what that chicken 🐔🍗 mimicry at the end of her song was all about. Anyway, it was all very beautiful.
She was trained as an opera singer from a young age.
Rofl
@@TI2_EvilTwin I think its to relax her vocal cords a little after hitting those super high screeches.
just havin' fun with it@@TI2_EvilTwin
All hail the RUclips algorithm for it has blessed me with this song
me toooooooo!!!
I'm not sure if blessed is the right word...but I too am glad that the algorithm has bestowed this strangeness upon me.
her cover of Rammstein - Seeman is pretty good.
After one Klaus Nomi video it told me to go here :)
Weird how you can tell it's genuinely getting better over time. I really liked this, even though I pretty much exclusively listen to synthwave these days.
Quelle voix !! C'est le morceau le plus génial de Nina Hagen !! Elle est unique et irremplaçable
This is the greatest thing i've ever seen.
Thank you..! Finally a comment worth commenting on.
She's a genius, I'm so glad other people get this.
You, sir, have got great taste!
She's awesome!

She's as mad as a bucket of frogs, but I love her unique talent and persona. 😍
This is the greatest performance ever filmed. Glorious!
Madonna couldn't get through 30 seconds of this...
Oh man. Haven't heard this song for years. Hearing it again made me realize how much she influenced my life when I was a teenage member of the No Future generation. She teamed up with our one and only real rock n roll star Herman Brood. Both were artists who did loads of drugs. Crazy times. Raw life.
Die Frau ist der helle Wahnsinn. Erst jetzt nach 6 Jahrzehnten verstehe ich sie. Nina Hagen ist toll. Phänomenal.
what a woman Nina god bless her im 70 and grew up with her music led zep ,deep purple etc great times 😄
40 years on this still feels like cutting edge.
I doubt this is possible without being talented and gifted. Quite amazing! Never heard of her but I believe I come to stumble up on a gem.
This live version is iconic
She’s a legit main character.

Nunca haverá, ninguém no mundo, melhor que ela, já mais ❤❤❤
Def. a One Piece villain.
Solid
An amazing piece of music. The video, the camera shots, the camera angles is even more 1979ish than 1979 itself. And Nina's overall performance is just flawless!
I absolutely love this.
Her facial expression are priceless.
I def needed to watch this tonight.
Been listening to Nina Hagen since 1982 and, with the benefit of hindsight, IMHO this is possibly the greatest four minutes of her long & glorious career. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but that's how I feel.
That chord progression is so beautiful
Esteban Rincon yes
You probably know it, but anyway, starts with: G6/D, F#7/C#, Fmaj7/C, E, then the same but all with E in the bass. The beauty is that all four chords have the note E in common.
@@truefilm6991 I'm sorry, I don't know music theory. I don't even know if my comment is even correct. LOL
@@estebansteverincon7117 it is correct. Gorgeous chord progression.
Sounds little like Hotel California.
I came here by accident... started skipping around, started laughing, wanted to hate it but now I'm listening to it for the third time and about to look for some more from her.... so.... yeah.
Try "unbehagen"
@@Heatfarmer Listening now mate, mahalo for the suggestion, I like it : )
Everybody is talking about the vocals and such.
So thanks! :)
The quote you used is by Kurt Cobain, pg. 99 sampled it, but yes
I was thinking precisely that. She's free up on that stage. Freer than most of us in society.
I wish Iknew what she was saying
@@Donjonneau The song is called "nature tears" and she describes looking out the window at night down on the city street and describes the scenery outside and she is overwhelmed with negative emotions and just cries. It is basically an anxiety attack put in a song (at least just judging from the lyrics, maybe there is a personal backstory she has). I find this song and this performance one of the best pop performances ever sung in German language. It might sound a bit surreal and extra but that entirely replicates the emotion one feels when just crying for no particular reason but the state of the world or one's life.
We need sooo much art. Most of the mainstem is just money making machine, not art. We need real people like her to come out. Beautiful
Every now & then it's good to listen to some Nina just to remind oneself just how uniquely wonderful existence is.
I tried to leave, but she nailed me to my chair with her voice.
Same here...i tried also🙊
🐔🐔🐔 then the ending politely snapped me out of my hypnotic daze 😂
Love those earrings.. goes well with that cute hair style.. lovely personality🔥🖤
I didn't pay attention to the earrings lol
Opera and metal have always intertwined. This is so uniquely beautiful.
This is not by any strech metal
Even not understanding a word of german, it doesn't matter, there's no words for her talent.
She's one of the most expressive singers I have ever seen. Her funny faces and the way she can sing punk or opera...
It's like Pink Flyod substituted the guitar solos for a voice. Phenomenal.
Haha thats great
well great gig in the sky
like hat!
hell fucking yeah
plutôt comme ZAPPA
Aw omg her binky earrings are so cute i love them
Only just found this woman. I love her sense of style, not sure yet what to think about her music but I really do appreciate that she marched to the beat of her own drum. I can’t help but think that a song with Nina and Kate Bush would have been super trippy.
I agree
This is how legends are born. Never be afraid to try something different!
Perfect mix of edgy intensity, raw talent ,and comic relief, Wow!

Great catch with the tongue, but what the *_FUCK_* are you talking about, "underrated" :DDDDD
nowadays kids don't know shit anymore. She is the mother of punk for a reason!!
Hello how are you?
Still watching in 2019. Not just weird, people. Skilled. Beautiful. Wonderful. Amazing. Nina makes it looks goofy but that voice is amazing. Those are trained pipes. What a woman!
don't know why this was on my recommended, but its refreshing that it fought its way through the algorithm.
One of the better songs. One disadvantage with listening to music at work is that this one can't be listened to without also watching Nina perform.
Watching her is half the enjoyment, her expressions, facial/eye movements and whole persona are captivating
My favorite song of Nina..❤️
What a voice!
And l love her madness...
This is one of my favorite songs from Nina Hagen. The whole album is a masterpiece : ) Danke Nina.
She looks like someone whose mother forced her to have opera singing classes but she rebelled against her when she grew up.
actually she grew up in socialist East Germany and was not accepted in opera for having 'suspicious' contacts... this is why she is not an opera singer... anyway... she would have been become Nina Hagen in either ways...
are you the 90´s generation or just styled like one
@@jansabarth9466 thank God
Hardly rebelling, considering how she embraced her operatic style and integrated into her act
@@likingraccoons Not really, there are barely any good Opera singers today, Elena Obraztsova is notably one of the last of the greats in the East, and not Dmitri Hvorostovsky
the way she emotes is everything! it's the look of an artist giving it all, feeling it all. pure performance. 💕
