Wee is one of the best descriptors of a crash
😂😂😂
Black ice will give you a very long low side event! The only one I ever had, nearly 55 years ago. And as I picked the bike up a bus came sliding down the road sideways, me and my passenger ran but the bus straightened up. Been lucky I guess. Always good advice from you, essential.
Appreciate this very much and I think that people don't talk enough about these crushes and mostly the high side. Actually my first experience with the high side is what led me to look for videos on breaking.
This is great! Very concise explanations on how the rider’s actions with braking and throttle effects outcomes at turns. Great advice experienced and novice riders can use to prevent crashes!
Back in the early 2000's I was introduced first hand to the notorious highside, while dragging the peg feelers on my ZX7. Except unlike what was shown in this video on a toy, in my case it happen much quicker and with far less slide angle. The bike only gave me the classic wiggle that was normal for 4 cylinders in those days, they all lacked ignition cutting traction control. And just as I began to lift out of the turn the bike instantly lept into the air, tossing me like a ragdoll, and landed on the upper fairing and windscreed crushing my nice new aluminum fairing stay that I just installed. But I dont recall much of a slide if any, it was much more sudden and kind of just happened. So if you think you can do something as it happens, or ride it out... I have news for ya'.
Thank you. I'm still a newb and have never REALLY understood the difference.
Good explanation I lost my father to a high side crash on Aug 30th. He was riding a 2007 BMW R1200RT. Possible heart issue that made him loose control. Ride safe!!
I really appreciate these short and to-the-point videos. Can you do a part 2 on how to handle these circumstances if you feel them starting to happen?
Not sure what you can do to stop a lowside. Once the front tire exceeds its traction limit the whole thing happens really, really fast. There isn't really time to "react" and save it. You might be able to save a high side if you catch it very, very quickly. IE gently reduce throttle the very moment you feel the back tire start sliding. You can also try to increase counter steering a little bit to keep the bike leaned. But I wouldn't overdo either of these things. Like mentioned, a primary cause of this type of situation is not being smooth on the throttle or brakes. So in recovery you also need to be somewhat smooth. However, the best recovery is prevention. Just focus on being smooth and riding within the limits of the bike, terrain, and your own skill. If you want to push it and discover what the limit of traction really is that's what a track is for.
Deploy your airbag.
As always, thank you for simple and clear advice. Excellent teacher.
Meaningful and very helpful...it's better to drive on your capacity in every corner no need to prove to somebody how good u are in every corner....it's a good reminder bro...
From Philippines
I love how you speak! "Wiiii, just go skitting along the ground" 😂😂
I managed to save myself from experiencing a highsider yesterday on the track. During the break it rained quite a bit so the track was wet, I wanted to overtake a few guys that were taking a corner pretty wide and slow, got on the throttle a bit too fast. Rear slipped, got traction again but I managed to land back in the seat and kept riding. It was pretty scary for a moment and I don't know how I managed to save it
Great illustration! It sinks in with the (awesome) toy bike. One question, when you say "being able to take away lean angle first" do you mean "reduce the lean angle first, before rolling on the throttle?" I am pretty sure you do, just wanted to make sure as my brain tricked me here a bit (as if I need to position myself to be able to remove the lean angle, then can roll on the throttle). Sorry if that sounds pedantic, I have a very literal way of thinking so sometimes need to ask questions like this.
Roundabouts. Greasy wet roundabouts. Lowsiders - usually the front but sometimes the rear goes. Happened so often that I treat them like they have black ice when its wet.
I nearly high sided coming out of a roundabout once. Pulled into the other lane to overtake some sleepyheads and as I was standing the bike up I got on the power QUICK.
Too quick, it seems, I felt the rear end stepping out.
To this day I have no clue how I caught it, my only explanation is smoothly adding too much power (rather than sharply and just losing it) which would have made it a very progressive slide.
Note to self: no more 1st gear power outs...
@@233kosta Smooth application and withdrawal of power forgives many sins.
@@damianwright3690 Same as brakes, I guess. Got away with that one too :P
Just being smooth all around seems to be the important takeaway from all of this.
A high side can also occur when a rear tire is skidded due to too much rear brake. The tire stops, the bike starts to low side, the brake is released, - instant highside when the tire regains traction.
hey man, i feel in a roundabout (i was going in hot won't lie) did everything good till i just laid on the ground i never really understood 100% why tought i had to much lean angle and road is not leveled where i fell... but after wattching this video i remember realesing the throtle and got me thinking i fell because of that ... now i have an harder time trusting myself to lean any advice ?
Hi so today I almost had a highside at about 55mph. I ride a G310R with stock tires, the weather was nice and i am not sure if there was any dust or bumps on the road. It was a long corner so i wasn't leaning like crazy, i probably had about half an inch of spare rubber on the tire. I do not recall using much throttle and definetly did not brake at all. Thank God I wasn't thrown away and I regained control and nothing happened, but why did it almost happen? I'd be happy to be informed.
Fantastic
lowside happened to me on black ice. Crazy how bad it hurt for going less than 15 mph-but I wasn't wearing gear at the time or helmet
Lesson learned
I could imagine that most of us would shout “Shit!” instead of “Wee!”.
By the way do the wheels always have to be at an angle? For example, couldn't either one occur in a straight line?
Good video, what about a give away for the mini bike.
Who'll win this year's MotoGP championship 🏆, I'll support Marco Bezecchi
Grabbed the front brake with too much lean angle.
So we can't use any brakes with a big enough lean angle?
You can. Just dont be stupid and grab them with full force. Use the brakes lightly if needed, put the bike upright and then brake
🙏🏽
Super good video as always but a super weird/bad/depressing outro song tbh haha. Nothing catchy and just a weird tune
Best demonstration as always.
Quick question from me.
Shall I still lean more if there’s still room left and it is safe to do?
Sometimes I feel like I could do more after I’ve already steered to get my convenient lean angle. I just didn’t dare to change it.
Low side you need new skin. Hi side you need a new neck.
weeee
Wee! Lol
