I used to travel quite a lot on P&O ferries from Hull, particularly to Zeebrugge before the daily service was stopped. I've often wondered what the freight drivers' facilities were like so thanks for showing them. Thanks also for taking the time to demonstrate the high standard of the German roadside public toilets; I know of at least one UK lady freight driver who complains about the generally very poor standard of motorway toilets in the UK - that is, when they're actually open for use!
@@kejdikapllanaj Sorry, I did most of my ferry travel on company business and I retired over 10 years ago. I can only say that I don't remember being asked for anything other than my passport at check-in. Regarding a vehicle's insurance status, it can be checked real-time by scanning the numberplate.
Hi . I spent many a night on those 2 ships. I am a retired coach driver from hull. We used to use them for regular trips to Amsterdam also Germany for koln, dusseldorf and of course the German xmas markets. I loved it. Saving a 7 hour drive down to dover and then back up. The coach driver's cabins were tiny. We used deck 10 . Usually 450 to 460. Occasionally we were put in cabins on deck 8. A lot roomier. Oh and the 3 cells were on deck 9 for the naughty people. By the way. You were lucky getting a private bathroom. Most of them on 9 had jack and jill bathrooms.
@GBtrucklady to be honest, you will have had that cabin allocated when your firm booked the crossing. As a coach drivers, we always had sole use cabin and ensuite facilities. When the ferry was mega busy with freight, the truckies had cabins allocated on deck 10 and we got put on deck 8. The cabin you got was better. More room in them ours were tiny and had 2berths bunkstyle with the 2nd one being in the ceiling lowered down by gas rams like a car tailgate.
Love that toilet, worth a euro for it just to be so clean . Used that ferry route and it was good. We used to run to Hull on nights and those roadworks would extend right up the A63 so the diversions could be interesting. ( not very HGV friendly ) . Thanks for the upload and take care.
Another great one.Hull Rotterdamn can be a pain looks like you hit it well..done my 30 years but still do the occasional trip if someone asks me nicely.love watching you and 'the breeze' stay safe 😊😊
I try not to disturb others when I’m filming as I think it can be a bit rude. There’s probably something on their site, they seemed very friendly and helpful. Thanks for watching 😁
Another fantastic video. The ferry looked really nice and the cabin looked a lot less spartan than I had imagined. A lot of caravans about, must be a meet somewhere.😲😲 Say what you like about the Germans they do have nice toilets and getting your euro back as well. Loved the rotating seat.😆😆 Safe journeys. Thanks again.
When visiting Arnhem in the Netherlands, the river is the Rhine, and the barges were numerous in number going towards the sea and into Germany. They certainly use their rivers to the fullest extent. About 15 years ago, me and my hubby were visiting Erquingham-sur-Lys in Northern France, and decided to pull in at hotel for lunch. When I visited the toilet, they had a thin plastic cover for the part you sit on, and when you flush the toilet, the plastic cover moves into a bin and a new one replaces the one you sat on. Brilliant. Why they don't use anything like this in public toilets in the UK beats me
Yes I have been to hull to Rotterdam and ARNAM . With my jeep. 2010 for the 65th anniversary of a bridge to far . Did all of Normandy as well . And colditz and ruier dams etc Germany in 2012. Many stories to share . But no space????
Started my HGV european driving career back in 86 when I had just turned 22, we used to use the Townsend Thoresen Ferries out of Felixstowe to the Hook/Rotterdam and as it was a night crossing we always had to share cabins, lucky for me the company I was working for always had more than 4 trucks on each sailing so we used to get put in together, they weren't always the best lads to share with but there were never any fights..close but no thrown punches.. 🤣 sadly lost 5 drivers in the sinkings 2 of which I knew very well and had spent many weekends abroad with them. Keep em coming and I'll keep watching, drive safely and look out for the idiots as they seem to have bred an awful lot.
Although I wasn’t doing it then, a few years ago now I bought a trailer off Swain’s of Stretton, I sat talking to Glyn Swain, who’s old enough to be my Dad, he was doing it back before we entered the eu. Such an interesting bloke, I could have stayed chatting for hours! I don’t think he would’ve said it was easier, just different. 😁
Hi. Great video as usual, But I have a question for you Why did they send you out there with an empty flatbed trailer ??? I don't see the mentality of that as it would pay more to take a load out and bring back what you where going out for. Look forward to an update to this video All the best
Great video.. Have you ever noticed when exiting any Ferry the car's and Lorries have to cross paths, it always makes me laugh I'm pretty sure they do it on purpose..
I didn’t record the return from Estonia as I think 3 videos on that was enough. 😂😂 I’m be going back to collect some containers, I’ll probably post about that. Thanks for watching 😁
Thanks for another lovely video, Sherrelin. I used to cycle in the Netherlands, back in 1984, never went through Rotterdam . One occasion cycled from the Hague down to Vlissingen, south Netherlands. Took me all day, peddling into a headwind all the way. Result a huge blister on the backside. Very unpleasant!!. Are you heading up to Estonia to collect those two containers you delivered last trip?. Safe travels and looking forward to the next instalment. Sarah from Tasmania.
Ouch! That sounds sore! I’m heading back up but to Tallinn to pick some different ones up. I won’t record it as I think 3 videos on it is enough. Might just do some highlights. 😁
Those toilet tickets used to be 50 cents, you could collect them and redeem quite a lot at a time. About 4 years ago the price went up to one Euro and only one ticket could be used at a time. Of course there was a huge uproar especially from lorry drivers. I'm not sure if they reversed the decision. I personally think the charging for using the toilets in Germany is getting a bit out of hand.My son and I spend two weeks in Germany in August/September this year, we had a bite to eat in a Burger King and even there I had to pay one Euro. Unfortunately, I used the loo after afterwards so I couldn't redeem the voucher.
Thanks for watching and your comment. 😁 You can save them to use next time. My Mom always said “I just need to go spend a penny” so 50c would seem expensive but in her day it actually cost penny, you didn’t get a token to spend on what you like, you just got to use a clean toilet. In this case you’re not actually paying to use the toilet as you’re getting it back by the way of a discount in the shop. If you watch the video of my travel through Poland you will see you pay the cleaner for keeping the bathroom area clean but again, you just get to use the clean facilities. Personally I’m happy to pay for clean facilities anywhere. Its unbelievable that people can’t leave them clean after using them.
Hi Sherralin, another nice video. Think back in the 80s I did a Hull to Hamburg. Things look a lot better now. Thanks for posting, take care, love the content. P.S. when is your lovely generous boss going to give the V8 back??? Little story, my boss wanted my 141 for mot , service, overhaul.10 days. Said I could have an f12, nice cab.... nah😊I took my holiday instead🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you. The Scania is sold now. I’m waiting for him to buy me an all singing & dancing 4x2 V8 that rides as low as this one…….think I’ll be waiting a while! 😂🤣😁
I've always wondered what the commercial drivers' facilities are like and I was quite surprised how good they are, at least on this ship, and no screaming kids and no drunks(hopefully).
The barges are a cost-effective and relatively sustainable way to carry heavy loads of non perishable goods. If a barge carries 1000 tons (in kg), that equals 40 (?) trucks. The really big barges from Rotterdam to Germany can often take a tenfold of that!
To be fare it’s not just the UK, not many countries are as clean as this. Drivers can be their own worst enemies too, for some reason some think that it’s ok to leave a mess behind them and cleaning is “someone else’s job!” and then moan. It’s your mess clean it up! Leave it as you wish to find it! 😁
This crossing is about 11 hrs usually. No not really, you get used to the wrong side of the road, just swap from one to the other. Very very occasionally I get, what I call, “wrong side of the road moment”, when I suddenly think, am I on the correct side?” My fingers tingle and I have to think where I am, it lasts an instant and then it’s gone through. Thanks for your support 😁
@GBtrucklady Google says; In some languages, Holland is used as the formal name for the Netherlands. However, Holland is a region within the Netherlands that consists of the two provinces of North and South Holland. Formerly these were a single province, and earlier the County of Holland, which included parts of present-day Utrecht.
Never been this route although been past both ports. You mentioned Poole, Kate should have her name on a lifeboat out of Poole. European H G V Driver Diesel Kate.
Thanks for replying hardly anyone does it was my dream to be a trucker but I lost an eye due to something they never told us much in the good old days anyway keep on trucking and making the vids much appreciated
The New Jersey Turnpike in the US could take a lesson from the toilet operation. Their bathrooms are beyond disgusting for the average guy yet alone the ladies. Anyway, another great video!

Can i ask you do they usually check car insurances from Hull to Rotterdam or just passport control and logbook car V5?

To be fair, I think I got that cabin because I booked on super early 😁

Love seeing all around the ferry abs those toilets at the end were cool.
Thank you.
The Germans do clean! 😁
@GBtrucklady 👍👍👍
Great Video Interesting to see that P &O are not roll on roll off ferries Nice bit of reversing in a restricted space👍
Thanks for watching 😁
Great vlog as usual looking forward to seeing the next one safe journey

Very informative, would like to see more on the ship, ie food/ entertainment and how busy it was. Thanks for sharing.
I try not to disturb others when I’m filming as I think it can be a bit rude.
There’s probably something on their site, they seemed very friendly and helpful. Thanks for watching 😁
I've done this crossing as a foot passenger on a mini cruise. Fascinating to see what goes on with the hgv traffic. Great post thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😁
Love those videos i enjoy the detail as I'm always curious how everything should work, keep up the good work and stay safe.
Thank you 😁
I took this ferry twice in 1993 on my way to the Isle of Man. They were two good transfers.
Very nice boats. 😁

I carry thin paper toilet seat covers, when you’ve finished they go down when you flush the loo.

Nightmare during rush hour I expect! 😁
The yellow tug like boat is from the Rotterdam Port Authority. Its used for fire fighting and other incidents in the harbor.
Thank you 😁

when booking cabin your cabin is booked as a bed (berth)or (Bed voucher)not a cabin that’s why there allowed to double you up
😂
Correct. 😁
Do they usually check car insurances from Hull to Rotterdam or just passports and v5 car logbook?
Good video see you still have that nice day 👌
Thanks, you too! 😁
Another great video, was looking forward to a return trip from Estonia. Where are you heading in this video I missed if you did mention it. 😊 👍🏻
I didn’t record the return from Estonia as I think 3 videos on that was enough. 😂😂

I love holland and germany what lovely clean places its a pity england cant be the same
Germany is very clean. England is not as bad as some. 😁
Drove truck and bus around Vancouver BC,WHAT R U driving.🏴
Atm I’m driving a DAF 530 XG+ but this could change at any time 😂🤣😂 I drive what my boss asks me to! 😁
Another great vlog. But I have always wondered why you never take this ferry more often after seeing some of the places you go.
It all depends on the load and the customer. 😁
Are there any brokers in your fleet?
Done the Hull - Rotterdam & Newcastle - Ijmuiden ferry regularly, always good crossings considering it’s the North Sea.
Thanks for watching 😁
You need to come to Japan to see fantastic toilets
😂👍🏻
What was the Crossing Time?
Do you ever find yourself heading for the wrong side of the road?

One for me to watch later 👍
😁👍🏻
Just Watched and again 100 %Total Respect 👍
Thank you. 😁
Well I never knew that about the Netherlands not being all of Holland!
No nor did I! I was told by a Dutch person (so I’m taking their word for it) that Holland is a part of whole country, a bit like Wales is. 😁

Wow those toilets just like Hiltonpark or lancaster or south mims in the UK .
🤦🏼♀️😂🤣😂
Over 4 years they been digging up that road.
Nightmare when it’s busy I bet. 😁
In fact you arrive in (south) Holland, so no problem with that.
you don't have to say sorry, i'm Dutch and when someone ask me where do u come from i always say Holland. I dont use The Netherlands
Thank you 😁
You are welcome Mam

Bad toilets seem to be a thing that’s easily fixed but places just can’t be bothered. 😁
Not a tank-armored personnel carrier or APC. :)

Yes it’s not a tank it’s a armored personnel carrier
There you go! 😁👍🏻

Yeah they could be🤔 I do love a good conspiracy theory! 😂🤣😂
I still don’t understand that you put 1 euro in and then get a ticket for 1 euro back
Running empty to Germany?
Хорошая шофиоре
Thank you 😁
The toilets in this video puts the UK to shame
Many countries are worse than the UK 😁
LENA TRUCKER would be in the water or end up in southampton from hull to southampton that crossing didnt take long.
It was an over night crossing, I was full of cold so had an early night. 😁
Hello ✋ 👍. Central Asia.
Hi 👋🏻 😁
