Great news! Welcome to the club (my daughter is also half Singaporean-Chinese and half Japanese). One thing we did was to give her a name that was the same in English, Japanese and Chinese, but the Chinese Characters, one of it was not found in Kanji and we couldn't register the Kanji Characters in her Japanese birth cert so had to go with Hiragana instead (We registered her name in the Singapore first). Just something to think about or your kid might have to write a very long name in future ;)

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS! Don’t worry about parenting. You will learn along the way. And your MIL is sure to help you and guide you both. The first and second phases are the best… tiring but worth every moment. Lots of discoveries and precious moments. The remaining phases are your child’s growing years filled with his/her own discoveries and fun exciting moments. My only advice… one of you can be a strict parent, laying the strict rules and disciplines. While the other one must play as a trusting parent and be the one that the child will go to whenever there are problems or emotional moments. If both of you are too strict and stern, the child will hide things and go behind your back. So, if your wife plays a good-trusting-parent and knows your child’s secrets or problems, she must share all these with you and both of you can discuss the best way to handle it or how to help or being supportive to your child. But remember, your child will only tell you 50-70% of the story. So, you must still keep an eye and observe without pressuring the child. Just my two cents worth.
