I bet you haven’t seen anyone talk about it though. Disney always claims that these kind of films make millions, but you wonder how if critics don’t like them, and praise on both the internet or in real life is fairly limited.
Disney got super lucky that "Hamlet with Lions" turned out to be a legendary hit 20 years ago and now they feel brave enough to write their own prequels for "Hamlet with Lions"
Disney didn't even invent "Hamlet with Lions" for themselves, they stole it as an already established, very popular series, from the "God of Manga" himself, Osamu Tezuka. His body was barely cold when they grabbed his IP (Still very much under copyright), filed off a single letter (Changing the "Kimba" in the original, to "Simba") and declared it a new Disney original. classic. It had even been fully animated, and even aired in the USA... on NBC. So no, they didn't get lucky. Disney have just *now* run out of shit to steal, because they'd get called on it and sued.
They know that they are classics. If they didn't understand, they wouldn't attach their parasite stories to it. They know they're bad writers. That's why they don't do original stories. But you're right that they don't understand why. Heroism is a foreign idea to them. They only understand power. Pick a virtue and they can't comprehend it. Pick a vice and they understand completely and use that in place of virtue.
I think that is an indicator that AI is used. They might have some people clean up some of the script, but the ideas line up with AI stories and it famously doesn't understand why things are done

I love that they retconned Mufasa's background to come from humble beginnings when his name is literally 'king' in Swahili. And Taka is Swahili for 'trash'. Their parents were horrible in the original backstory, lmao.
Taka in Swahili means want as well. It also means trash but the short form. The full word is takataka which is garbage. Then mfalme is king is Swahili not mufasa. Mufasa is just some random name. The hubris of trying to frame the lives of wild animals into a feminism vs. misogyny narrative... How far up your own ass do you have to be? "Lionesses do all the hunting because of misogyny!" Bro, things in nature are the way they are because it works; if it didn't, they'd die. That idea also conveniently ignores the fact that male bachelor lions have to hunt and fend for themselves once they're too old to stay with the pride.
Making Mufasa and Scar brothers by "adoption" instead of brothers by blood is absolutely one of the dumbest retcons Disney has ever made. Not only does it make Scar's hatred more justified, but it also makes Mufasa's death even less impactful and more laughable. The original 1994 movie reigns supreme.
Since the original was mostly a remake of Hamlet, removing the blood connection makes the original not-Hamlet. But I guess Disney is OK with taking off Shakespeare's hat and shitting in it since that lets them push their agenda.
We need a Drinker origin story. What was your first drink? What traumatic event caused you to drink in the first place? Was the bartender a girl boss who didn’t serve you (counterintuitive, but whatever…)
The absolute hatred they have for the simple idea that Mufasa is a king born into power and also good strong KING is so ridiculous it's almost funny. Can't have a man be born into privilege and be actually good at the job now can we. Even if it's a story about lions.
Right? And it even applies to showing how Scar is even more of a villain because of how privileged he also was to be able to be the son of a king and also a brother of a king so he gets to lounge around and do nothing. He didn’t have to work like Mufasa ever did.
The only bright point to Mufasa is it motivated Drinker to find a clip of a puking lion. Perhaps it time to retire Peter Dinklage for this new iconic image.
Tbf Mufasa spin-off could work. If Lion King was about becoming a king, Mufasa could've been about being a King and what hard and terrible dilemmas you face to protect the kingdom. This, plus Mufasa's relationship with Scar and attempt to kill him as another hard decision for the King. This could've work but not with modern Disney.
@@shadowsenpai2395they usually do more menial hunting, but by no means are more ferocious. Male lions are much stronger than female lions, and they are a requirement to bring down larger prey that isn’t a zebra or smaller animal. And so is the females hunting and basically doing all the heavy lifting. That's just how it is for lions. The males CAN hunt, but its more common to just send out all the girls when you have a pride. A males job is to mate and fight other male lions.
I know drinker talked about that part, but he is half right half wrong. The men hunt when the targets are too big, but its not the lions goto method or something they just do for fun.

So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you... and so will I." The original Lion King hinted at Simba being part of a grand legacy, without having to be overly explicit about it. These words stick with him, even years into his exile; despite seemingly being happy with Timon and Pumba, Simba is constantly hampered by the guilt of (seemingly) getting his father killed, as well as disgracing the proud legacy of kings that came before him. But in this, what does he have to look back on? Mufasa's dad is apparently some hobo nobody that dies offscreen, and his stepdad is a useless douche who tries to kill him. Exactly, these studios are all basically doing the same thing, same format nowadays so they’re all comfortable with pumping out this garbage, subtle or outright.

I remember a video where a pride of lions were hunting a big animal. The male lions had it pinned to the ground, and it was the job of the females to finish it off. Instead the females started fighting each-other, the males had to break up the fight and the prey just got back up and walked away while everyone was distracted.
Usually it’s the males that have to finish it off. They are bigger and slower and can’t catch prey as easily, but also stronger so can do more damage to a prey’s body.

The Lion King was the first film I saw in the theater. I remember being profoundly moved by Mufasa and Scar's voice acting. It's truly devastating to see where Disney is now.
The funny part is the Lion King had an ok sequel for the time. It was based on Romeo and Juliet. They could have upgraded that film and made it great, but that would require Disney to give a shit
Ya know it's actually nice seeing someone give Simba's Pride the love it deserves 🙂....I mean we all know what an indisputable masterpiece the first one is, and to make a follow up (ntm it was made for video as well) that nearly lives up to it - well that's ok in my book 🙂
The fact that it's Simba's daughter being told that this horrible story just makes me now know for a fact that they will make a CGI remake The Lion King 2😢 you know they are going to since they just introduced the freaking Juliet of that story I was starting to wonder though if they at least explained how the Romeo got adopted in the first place or how his adopted mother declared him The Reincarnation of scar that just makes it funny since by this movie's logic Mufasa was adopted so it's ironic that scar is reincarnated as an orphan that gets adopted😂 and ends up getting together with the daughter of his adopted brother's son😅
Honestly, since they had a theme going, they could have done a whole Lion-Shakespeare Cinematic Universe. Just adapt every single Shakespeare play with lions. Othello--with lions. King Lear--with lions. They'd barely even have to pay writers.
Agreed. I'd rather soyjack point at the references to one of the best stories that the Sonic franchise has to offer (including a cheeky little reference to Real Time Fandub) than be beaten over the head with "the message" in a film that was advertised as a prequel to a classic movie. Side note: Disney needs to stop doing that. Stop making movies like Lightyear and Mufasa that are supposed to take place before the first movie in their series but shoving modern audience crap into it. It can't be both and it tarnishes my perception of the modern Disney brand.

Honestly, I envy you, really. I could've watched Sonic with the whole family last month, but no, everyone want to watch Mufasa because it's more 'viral', so I had to sit through 2 hours of shitty dialogue and cringy songs instead of having an enjoyable time.
3:35 Not just that, they also are the ones who risk their lives to protect the territory and cubs from outsiders. There are recorded cases where after losing the adult males the pride lost its territory and disbanded.
Yeah, great point. There's also the very sad truth that female lions usually can't protect their cubs from getting killed when a pride is taken over. They might try, but it's rare that they succeed.
Yup. We took our kid to see the original Lion King live action re-make. He loves musicals and we told him this would be great. Half way through he's like "can we go? this is boring". Biggest problem with Mufasa is that the character didnt need a backstory about him getting lost. That’s still copying the formula of Simbas story. Correct me if I’m wrong but Mufasa acted like he was raised from birth to be royal. He was more the traditional king. If they wanted to make a Mufasa origin movie it would’ve made so much more sense to have him and scar be actual brothers and show the life of him growing up and being taught the ways of being a king from his father and showing scar get more salty. This is the problem with Disney they try to make “original” content now but only recycle ideas

All the woke retconning only ever makes the context so much worse. Like all the dark skinned elves in Rings of Power imply that there was a massive culling of said elves at some point between that series and the Lord of the Rings.

His body was barely cold when they grabbed his IP (Still very much under copyright), filed off a single letter (Changing the "Kimba" in the original, to "Simba") and declared it a new Disney original. classic. They revisit classics without understanding the soul or creativity that made people consider them classics.

@tashassims6383 Same.
Good news for ya this is a “prequel” to the 2019 version ( even though their practically the same)
Since the original was mostly a remake of Hamlet, removing the blood connection makes the original not-Hamlet. But I guess Disney is OK with taking off Shakespeare's hat and shitting in it since that lets them push their agenda.

Male lions eating/killing (not their) babies is actually super common.
At least it got one thing accurate 😂
And so is the females hunting and basically doing all the heavy lifting.
That's just how it is for lions. The males CAN hunt, but its more common to just send out all the girls when you have a pride. A males job is to mate and fight other male lions.
Because they do not want to expend energy raising another unrelated male's progeny. It also brings the females into heat when they take over a pride.
I know drinker talked about that part, but he is half right half wrong. The men hunt when the targets are too big, but its not the lions goto method or something they just do for fun.

"Simba... let me tell you something that my father told me. Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars.
...
So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you... and so will I."
The original Lion King hinted at Simba being part of a grand legacy, without having to be overly explicit about it.

@@margarethmichelina51464) Kristen Ritter being fine as hell
Honestly, I envy you, really. I could've watched Sonic with the whole family last month, but no, everyone want to watch Mufasa because it's more 'viral', so I had to sit through 2 hours of shitty dialogue and cringy songs instead of having an enjoyable time.
3:35 Not just that, they also are the ones who risk their lives to protect the territory and cubs from outsiders. There are recorded cases where after losing the adult males the pride lost its territory and disbanded.
So the males are the sacrifice basically. So that's nature for you and here we have human males whining and crying about having to work for a living.
And he was right. It was crap in every respect. We had to buy the original to prove to him that we weren't lying about the Lion King being great.
Did everything the same with the Lion King just watered down…plus adding White Lion Supremacists lol
Was this movie written by the same team behind Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who?
When uncle Ben said “with great Modern movies comes great talentless writers” truly
I loved that part. Really hit home
Frododo hittin his moronic head on the cart was the best part of the video, pure gold :D
Literally had me on the floor
Got me too.
I'm still laughing, that caught me off guard lol
Love how the white lions are the villains. Disney sketch over the accusations over Kion The White Lion anime .
When I first watched the movie at 5 years old, I always knew pride rock wasn't a natural rock formation in the African Tundra. I've been asking myself how it was created for 30 years. I can now soundly sleep at night knowing it's origins. Thank you Disney.
For a second I thought you were serious.🧐
"African Tundra" is something I never thought I would ever hear or read but here we are
*Savana
'Veldt'????
35 years, and still doesn't know that it's 'its'.
6:57 the lion throwing up with the Tyrion sound 😂😂😂
Drinker works hard on these videos.
And the scenes are constantly changing, every 2 seconds the scene flicks on, its like cocomelon on crack
Hahaha oh nooooo. Don't think I'll be watching it then
Oh God, I thought it was my anxiety overthiking that a lot was happening in the movie . I had to calm myself in the theather 😂.
I watched it yesterday, and Jesus you're so right. Couldn't keep track of what was happening at all. I look down to find my drink, I look back up and 10 different scenes have passed already. I think I remember like what.... 4 scenes? I watched it just over 24 hours ago lmao
They managed to put man bad, woman good in a movie with animals 💀
Unbelieveable.
This movie is , as my dad used to say, about as subtle as a rusty nail...
That was a very aggressive "Go away now".... and its just January. Oh boy.
Disney still insisting with "the message"??? What a bore...
Ya but so is a childless grown man who spends all his time making fun of them
@@adamgates1142all of his time? Talking mere seconds child. 😂😂
Just admit disney is shit. Move on.
Probably gonna double down next 4 years here, they don't need to convince anyone of anything so you'll see some true colors here
The fact that they had white lions in the snow made so angry
0:13 I don’t hate myself THAT much
Don't worry. Usually you just round the horn til you're back to drinking again.
They could have just stolen the plot of the Telugu movie Bahubali, and it would have been great and no one would have noticed.
You mean a story about a noble male who's raised in privilege but embrace the responsability that comes with it and become a positive masculinity figure thanks to a great father?
My, dysney "witrers" would choke at this idea.
''Twin Lords of unfunny Bullshit Mountain", has got to be one of the best lines ever uttered on youtube. Thank you for that.
Mufasa: the world's most obvious cash grab.
male lions do hunt at times, but I believe their primary role is to protect the territory so that female lions have places to hunt.
Yeah, usually the females hunt while the males defend them from hyenas and others that try to steal the kills.
Yep, they save their energy for contenders to their territory. So yes "lazy" but for a reason.
And I think the males hunt mostly when they are young adults and pushed out of their pride.
there's no such thing as "lazy" in wild animals. it's survival or dei
@@sampaddie617 Contenders to their pride really. Protecting their cubs, because an incoming male lion will kill any cubs under around six months old in a pride they take over. Nasty, brutish and often short is a good description of the life of a male lion.
what perfect timing, I'm watching a drinker video WHILE drunk! :
When the white lions all chanted "heil Hitler" and sang songs about a fourth reich. Meanwhile the brown lions were beaten over and over again until they roared there way to victory and destroyed all white lions.
Truly beautiful.
Absolute cinema
Apparently that's what inspired Elon Musk
@@unacceptableviews6231 Get better at self-medicating. You may be more tolerable.
As a german, i read *the german part* and was like: WAIT WAIT WAIT, HOLDUP, WTF? Until i read the rest XD
6:37 bro 😂😂😂
“all that toxic masculinity must’ve got the best of em” i fell over lol
0:17 i dont hate myself enough
Amen to that!
Why would ya hate yourself?
The difference between Sonic and Mufasa is as striking as can be, and really shows how much Disney has fallen.
Sonic 3 had the loosest of plots. It was a nothing movie that took 5 minutes to write.
Sonic Movie 3 was one of the best video game adaptations I've ever seen. A pity Drinker doesn't care.
Because it's a loose adaptation of a video game that came out 23 years ago? @@tjmarx
@tjmarx Meanwhile Sonic's story is still way better than Mufasa's. And most importantly, they kept Shadow's story the same and even improved it. They knew what the fans wanted with Shadow.
Sonic beat Disney again.
@@tjmarxHow did Sonic 3 have a loose plot? That's complete bullshit lol. The movie told a clear and consistent story about how and how not to deal with loss. I'm generally confused, what was loose about it? Anyone who was actually paying attention would understand the movie. It has a straightforward plot that dove into somewhat dark subjects for kids whilst also paying respect to its fans. Clearly you didn't pay attention or you're just a Disney fanboy
2020: Sonic beat Turds of Prey
2022: Sonic 2 beat Morbius or (More B.S)
2024: Sonic 3 beat a soulless cash grab opening weekend and has now become a billion dollar franchise from the love and respect they received from their fans
true, but Morbius was awful already, as was Madame Web, Kraven the hunter etc
Saw sonic 3 yesterday. Great movie! It was fun
Mufasa still outgrossed Sonic 3 though, cope.
Not to mention that they heard the fans when the ugly Sonic trailer dropped and fixed his visual!
I'm waiting for the "define soulless" angry contrarian to show up in this thread now!
'Mufasa' cracks $600 million. Small wonder Disney was on top of the box office eight of the last nine years.
Vast majority of people on the planet are fools. And foolish people tend to go see modern Hollywood movies and give their money away to Modern Hollywood. And Modern Hollywood relies more and more on established brands because they can't think of new ideas. How else did the fast and the furious get about a dozen sequels?
Damn. I almost went the rest of my life without knowing the plot to this movie. Thank you, Critical Drinker.
