- This is the E-Flite V900 and it is absolutely crazy fast on 4S. It's actually my second V900 (long story, I'll tell you later) but I'm glad I bought another one because this thing is a lot of fun to fly. I've owned this plane for just over a month and this is one of the latest flights I did recently testing its speed and thought I'd share it. I know the GPS is probably not super accurate for aeroplanes, but I don't care, it's what I have and I gauge the speed of all my planes this way.
I've made a couple of small changes to this plane; I swapped out the stock 60amp ESC to a Hobbywing Skywalker 60amp ESC. The stock ESC annoys me because it can't handle a punch-out on the throttle. On more than one occasion when I punch the throttle nothing happens and the plane just continues to glide on idle. Since installing the Hobbywing ESC I've not experienced this and I have full throttle control throughout the throttle curve.
The other thing I changed was the rear tail section. I had a small crash on the second flight as a result of not throwing the plane hard enough on launch, it torque rolled and nosed in followed by a cartwheel. The tail broke a little bit and I had to reinforce it and repair it. I also added a tiny bit of tail weight so the battery can sit slight more forward in the tray.

Hey, I also have the V900 and I had a hard time launcing it in the past. I now use a technique that works every single time with little to no torque roll. So basically, 75% throttle on 4s, 100% throttle on 3s. Grab the plane underhand. Around 45 degrees. Roll the airplane a bit to the right (not sure how to explain it, basically hold it so the left wing is higher than the right right, as if you were giving it right aileron in flight. hopefully that makes sense) and launch it. you really dont have to throw it hard. dont give it aileron input until youve actually launched it because with this technique chances are you wont need to counter the torque roll. hope this helps
edit: make sure you have your hand on the aileron stick, i know it feels more natural to launch it from the dominant hand but its way easier to have control over ailerons.
That is such a nice plane . So fast ! I have a old F-22 Styker that I put a 16/15/4 turn MEGA motor with a 4.75 x 4.75 pusher prop , I run it on two 2s 2200mAh in series and it's right at 28,260 rpm 100 mph . Makes my legs shake lol 😆.... I like the slow flyers now

We've had a few of these at our club, greta fun and very fats. Watch out for potential issues with the rear elevator connection, we've had one snap which didn't end well!

Just a hint. I have that exact plane running 4s also. You can easily hand launch it at under 50% throttle and it does just fine. At about 40% throttle it still has more than enough power for an easy hand launch and not much torque roll. After your up and stable, then go for ballistic. That plane is definitely a rocket. 😊
the gps is accurate. in level flight. any steep climbs or dives during the flight will be inaccurate.
The GPS gives an accurate speed across the ground. It does not give true airspeed. Wind matters.

This is a great plane. Good flight sir! I have one and also find launching this (4S) is a pain. I've started having a buddy hand launch it for me while I'm on the sticks. The P-factor at launch is killer! I sure wish they put the Avian ESC in it for telemetry on the battery rather than running a timer on my NX8.
Does safe not counter the torque roll on the launch?
Probably, but I don't have safe activated, only the gyro.
Nice show! I like to launch underhand for low wing planes. Hand naturally comes back to the transmitter too.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to try the underarm method with this plane. I use it with some of my other planes, but haven't tried with this one yet.

Yeah, you have to work your way up to these speeds and get used to going fast. I remember when I started getting into fast planes and had to constantly remind myself to turn or go up after so many seconds or I would lose orientation due to the plane being too far away. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it it's not that bad.

@@aussiercairspace Nowhere 160 . We have a few at the club and chase each other around . EFxtra on 5 s is faster and thats only doing 150 max .

I do mostly wing-tip toss my hand launchers, but this one is a bit hard to do that as it has so much power/thrust and not much wing to grab. Throwing it as seen in the video has been successful so far, so I'll stick to that for now. 🙂

Blimey 160 on a pretty much stock plane?! Its so tight under there all I could fit was a 2200 100c 4s. Wish it could take more as ideally I want more weight up front

@@M4rkmcc21 Correct, meaning it's either not stock or his GPS is giving erroneous results perhaps from diving.
that thing isnt getting 160 mph. the gps reads inaccurate withthe climbs and dives
GPS reads speed across the ground, not true air speed. Wind matters and winds aloft are stronger than surface winds.

Make sure you have selected the best picture quality during playback and you have a decent sized screen. I can see it fine on my phone. 🤷🏼♂️

On Maiden I had NO Elevator and nosed in at 100%. I fried both motor and ESC so it now runs Castle 90-Amp ESC and motor for the V-1200. It Runs AWAY!!!!!!! One Tip - Hand Launch with SAFE - No Torque roll. then Switch out.
Should make a catapult style launchpad.
I launch it underarm now, so it's much easier. 😉
a good way to launch the V900 is to grab the fuselage on the top instead of hold it from the bottom. You will get a very firm grab.
