QUICK UPDATE!! The barrel does appear to be chrome lined after cleaning it. The bayonet was definitely upside down. I did flip it and i had to do some serious grinding on the bottom side of the gas block and the handguard retainer to get the cleaning rod and bayonet to sit flush. I also found out that the stock DOES have the insides cut out for a trap door. Just doesnt come with the trap door butt plate. I did install a trap butt plate I had laying around and it fit perfect. I WAS going to make a video for the update, but I have covid and feel like crap now. Today, I tore the rifle down completely to begin the process of stripping and bluing and to redo the wood. Ya. I have to give PSA some credit. They really have busted their asses trying to make a decent ak. Sure, they have had some defects here and there, but over time, they're going to get better and better.
Finally American make some AK out run original one, my grandpa and my dad were in PLA, they train with type 56, and they hate that, different with those for exporting, type 56 can hardly meet its designated life span and it need to be clean and oiled everyday to avoid rust.
On my Polytech under the gas block has little ears on both sides of the cleaning rod with a groove under the GB itself its relieved enough for the clearance of the cleaning rod to not interfere with the bayonet. Your gas block looks like it needs to be filed a bit for relief of the cleaning rod and since your refinishing it relieve the gas block when you refinish the gun.
I checked and their Tula builds are in stock with and w/o side rail. They too have a FN chrome lined barrel. They use original Russian wood and it's a crap shoot which color you'll get. Red, blonde, etc. But the Soviet Arms receiver is built to exact Russian specs with rivets perfect match. Even the receivers etchings are correct.
You are crazy to get rid of the midnight blue Cerakote. Cerakote is a superior finish and will last forever. The Cerakote job itself is worth $500. To each his own. Nice video. Enjoy the beautiful gun.
Soviet arms is PSA's AK sister company, kinda like lead star arms is their ar sister company. They are mostly making accessories under that brand like rails and grips but looks like their switching their new AK's to that brand as well
They must have only had a few dozen of these because I got an email notification they were in stock and 2 hours later when I checked they were sold out. You obviously got one so it wasn't an error. Nice grab. This type 56 build and their actual Russian parts kit build are the 2 I wanna get next. I picked up one of their Romanian parts kit builds beginning of 2022, their GF5-R apocalypse rifles using all matching numbers including forward dong and gas tube, butt stock, bolt, bolt carrier, trigger guard, trunnions, sights, gas block, everything but receiver which is theirs but a FN barrel chrome lined. No issues at all but after 6k rounds now the mag latch, which is Romanian surplus, isn't gripping mags very tight so I ordered m+m mrl kitbut I'll hold onto the surplus latch for authenticity. Good luck with the type 56. Hopefully I'll have one soon too. Now put some rounds through it.
Is there supposed to be a groove cut into the handguard retainer like an sks would have? Because if i flipped it around, i feel like it would need a V groove cut into it.
@@back-engineered there should not be... only in the wood. The wood should stick out a tab bit over the retainer just allowing the bayonet to clear the retainer and just "rest" on it while fitting into the wood groove.

I think the bayo is in fact sideways. The flat edge of the tip should align or be parallel to the flat or middle portion of the receiver. If so, it’s that PSA got the design wrong. Curious to see more.

Just a heads up, you might want to check the contact surfaces between the cleaning rod and the spiker bayonet. If those are Polytech USA parts, they usually don't fit out of the box. The "nubs" on the bayonet that contact the cleaning rod will act as spring tension, so if the bayonet feels like a complete bitch to deploy, then you have to file that surface area down a little bit. This will also allow the blade to rest deeper into the handguard cutout instead of stick out like that. When I converted my MAK-90, I had to hand file the bayonet and enlarge the sight drum hole, since it was undersized below 10mm.
I can't believe they are making norinco clones I grew up in the 80s and 90s and these were all considered cheap Chinese trash . 300 bucks all day in any gun shop glad I have a couple I miss the good ol days.
Some of them were *Literally* the only AK's to have chrome lined barrels on the market until the 00's. I would hardly call them trash, even back then. The worst part of them was the wood which was easily replaced. Most (one's I've encountered) can accurately shot a grapefruit at 200 yards. It's ignorance to think they are/were all trash. Better than Romanian ones by a long shot. Which were also everywhere
Their description on their site says chrome lined barrel so after you remove the gun powder from chamber you'll see the chrome lining. I like everything but the wood. It's too shiny and plastic looking for a spiker. I'd try and find some surplus wood. Most important to me about this build is the 1.5mm built receiver.

Cool gun. Keep the box, it'll be a collector item with it's eye catching design, and keep the original butt plate and for the same reason too. I read your update, hope you've recovered. The bayonet did look a little off, I have a type 56 SKS with the folding bayonet and an M44 carbine with the same feature too, albeit it's bayonet is a side-folder.
Wow yesterday 10/26/22 I was on the psa website and they had some of them. I go back and check this morning they gone. I been on this kick for AKs since was able to get my m70 zpap tactical unfired out of pawn. I swear to the gun gods that’s one of the worst things a guys has to do. Pawn a rifle or sell a pistol at least when you take a loan out you can try to get it back. I have lost a few guns pawning them I vowed to NEVER do that again. Man our economy is so screwed up right now I am so done with the politicians.
Matey, your bayonet is definitely rotated 180 degrees on it's axis the wrong way, edge should be into the handguard when folded. This can easily be fixed. Remove bayonet (videos show how), then remove blade from locking sleeve, rotate 180 degrees, then back together again. PSA assembled it wrongly. Easy fix. Gas block underside looks too thick, check there's a groove cut in it at the thicker bulged end closest to the receiver. That bulge should form 'ears' on either side of cleaning rod. Maybe they mistakenly didn't grind that finishing touch, or didn't make it deep enough, thus cleaning rod being pushed downwards too much. Also barrel is definitely advertised as chrome lined, do check for the matt silver in the bore and chamber .... it's conceivable they messed up and put a gas nitrided barrel on by mistake, which are at least $100 cheaper. It still looks like fun, hope it shoots well.
Thanks! I found the issue. While it does have the ears you speak of AND the groove is deep enough for the cleaning rod, its interfering right in front of those ears, not allowing the rod to rest all the way down in. There is too much meat on the forward most part of the gas block and i can tell it's definitely a defect rather than poor design. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to shave it down significantly to make it work. Also, will be flipping the blade while im at it.
Also, I'm out of town, so won't be able to double check for chrome lined barrel for a few more days. On my wasrs and SKSs, the chrome lining is obvious, but i don't see it on this rifle. When I get back home, I'm going to clean the barrel and recheck and make a new video with an update.
@@back-engineered I'm glad you've got the issues identified and fixes lined up. Remember when grinding the underside of the gas block not to reach the retaining pins. Originals have only a very small amount of material below the pins .... very small. Also, some Chinese gas blocks are scalloped around the pins, with material removed in front of and behind them, so there's a little bulge where the pin goes in, everything else recessed further towards underside of barrel. This might help relieve in front of the forward most pin, if that's where it's pushing on the cleaning rod. As for Chrome lining ...... oh man ..... I hope you find it hidden under oil and grime. It would be a major error if they plugged in the wrong AK barrel, and quite frankly, they should swap your gun .... what's a classic military AK without cold forged chrome ...

Who knows... they still have made any sort of public announcement that the spiker finally released. Last post they made about it was almost a year ago. But yet, here it is. I assume the SVD will also be the same way.
On your last question. Most likely never If the rumors/speculations in the SVD community are true. Supposedly they bought a TDP for the SVD from the current FEG. except they had no way of making certain parts to spec in house. They reached out to FEG to make those said parts. When the fallout over the HD-18 occured it fed into a Hungarian political squabble already occurring between Hungary and the USA. the PM of Hungary Orban is supporting Putins action in Unkraine. Due to this FEG pulled out of the American market. PSA may find that it is not cost effective to produce American SVDs or if they do it will be over $5K/unit. Which is the price point that several other companies have stopped their R&D efforts at.
@@nbenicewicz I fully agree with you. I keep hoping that the above stuff isn’t true and that we will see quality domestic SVDs produced. It is a missing hole in my collection,

Awesome man! I just got mine paid for today! Ive wanted a polytech forever so I'm super happy they are rolling these out!
Ya dude! Feels like Christmas!! Cant wait to some rounds through it!
These PSA Spikers do have a chrome lined barrel. According to the description it's a PSA chrome moly barrel
@@back-engineered care to share how to fix it in the upcoming vid? Can’t for the life of me figure out where to begin and don’t want to ruin the spiker haha
@@takeshikobayashi4116 hopefully making a follow up video this weekend. You will need a small punch to punch out the pin that holds the bayo on. Then you need a very small allen key (cant remember the size) to remove a tiny set screw on the bayo. Once you remove the set screw, you can flip the blade then reinstall.
No side rail. Thank you PSA!
Type 56 AK does not have a side rail. They were trying to stay true to the original.
Thats a Beauty !! I had to have a Molot Vepr back when , I could get them and I messed up And ordered it in 308 ): I but the price has more than doubled on it and I i I rarely shoot it maybe 25 to 35 rounds through it I had no clue they made an AK with a swing out spike bayonet very niceI can’t wait to see more of your new AK mistress lol ( : PS the Vepr was like 850$ !!
Probably not matching numbers because they contracted companies to make their stuff. The bolt carrier is toolcraft for example
Found out it was out 2 weeks late when it was out of stock. Today, casually while on break at work, I checked the site for deals and these just happened to be in stock. Snagged one. Can't wait to get it! Your video is still pretty much the only review on youtube lol. Nicely done.
Hell ya! Awesome. I completely stripped mine down and blued it. Just have to do the wood now. Hopefully I'll have an updated video soon.
@@back-engineered nice! Looking forward to that update!
I didn't know there was a new spiker, let alone a PSA! I'm getting one! Quick question, I'm sure I know the answer but I want to make sure, does this thing like Arsenal waffle mags? I bet it's got a chrome lined barrel
If you remove the butt plate, it is already cut out for a cleaning kit. Just install a spring and trap door plate.
No way!? Really?
I just checked. It really does have a trap! I wonder if any standard ak buttplate will work.
They need to serial parts. It's apart of the cool factor when buying a clone.
Totally agree.
I like it! The blued finish will really bring that rifle to the top tier.
Check headspace! PSA's Toolcraft bolts are known to have too much slop!
Oh damn. I didn't even realize it was toolcraft stuff. Does PSA make toolcraft or is it a separate brand?
@@back-engineered Separate brand PSA bought out. Found out about the issue from AK Files members. Use your finger wiggle the bolt, not carrier. If it feels like a bunch of slop, get it checked!
@@1bryanh1 oh damn. I'll have to grab a set of go, no-go guages.
Buy a parts kit build. Either Tula or Romanian. They use original front trunnions. Tula and Romania trunnions are the best.
@@neverendingmods Personally, I'd never buy a PSA without thorough inspection. They really need to work on their QC, which is a common problem with American manufacturing in general, and I'm a machinist.
OMG, I’ve gotta have one. Original spikers are too rich for my blood, these will do nicely. I have a Chinese marked mag pouch and lots of Chinese flat back mags.
Hell ya!! I hope you get it.
You could show the spiker deployed...
Didn't think about it. I'll post another video soon. Looks like any normal spike bayonet when deployed.
@@back-engineered ok...thanx
@kevin walker just ordered mine you made me do it
Thanks for saying something! I just checked as soon as I saw your comment and bought a second one lol.
First of all, it’s not a milsurp rifle so it won’t have “matching numbers” second it is blued, and third it’s made by psa, it has the palm trees and the cannon on the box, it’s their new line.
I hope you have the proper template for sighting for sighting in your beautiful Ak so you can get the accuracy it truly is capable of !!!
Yessir I do!
@@back-engineered thank you for your reply Mr Walker, that is great news I am glad you will be able to enjoy all the capabilities of your beautiful AK !!!
Looks good !!!!!!
Can I get dibs at the beautiful blonde wood handguards? If and when you decide to go with red
I'm going to be staining these red. I make my own dark blood red stain. ;)
The bayonet needs a notch ground out for the cleaning rod or round it out completely.
I just fixed it. I had to grind the bottom of the gas block just a hair
@@back-engineered very nice, I'm still working on a milled type 56 build and had the bayonet issue as well. Chinese parts on a US tortort milled receiver. Still need to test fire it. Congratulations on getting one from PSA. Looks nice with the proper rivets and 1.5 mm reciver.
Are these better ak’s than the Zastavas with the bulged trunions and chrome lined barrels just curious
Probably not haha.
They are chrome lined. I have one.
Oh what???? It didn't look like it, so I just assumed not. I haven't gotten the chance to really sit down and knit pick it.
They said they were CHF chrome barrel 1x10 twist etc
Awesome. It didn't look like it. I still haven't gotten a chance to really mess with it. Good to know.
When did they release it? I’ve been waiting on notification for this one.
Weeks ago. They restock a few times a week around 4pm.
And they sell out very fast. Within minutes.
@@back-engineered any review update?
@@NgJackal1990 the rifle is currently taken apart. In the process of bluing the metal now and wood has been stripped of its original finish. It'll be 2-3 more weeks before it's done.
@@back-engineered Cool, I'm looking forward to your new video of it.
I dig it!
The barrel profile looks thin, should be more like type 3 profile. It's a cool clone.
It's actually thicker than standard. I compared to my other modern ak. Significantly thicker.
Interesting that they say Soviet nothing Soviet about this
i have their romanian gf5, it feels and looks nice. i was thinking on getting this but there is something about it i dont like, I think its the wood and i prefer the alg triggers they put in their gf5s, think i will pass on this one.
I have the PSA GF5 and man I’d say there damn close to my comblocks
We will be waiting on the range trip
that's tight it finally came out, lets hope they sell the spiker and front post as a kit. the mak90 feeling a little naked...
I know! I hope they do. All mac90s should be converted. Lol.
You can get the spiker front sight assembly from polytech USA.
@@thegunbox81 😂😂😂 if your lucky.
@@akina4drift I'm guessing PSA are using them on these builds.
They even got the front trunnion rivets right :o
That’s super cool.
Wouldn't fuck around with the finish if I were you. Yes, it is a chrome lined barrel, or didn't you bother to look before you bought it?
I didn't bother to read the description.
@@back-engineered No wonder you're off to work. Gotta make more money! Hope it shoots well for you.
You didn't deploy the spike.
A chinese type 56 clone 😳 Palmetto State Armory knows what people want.
Very nice and very beautiful.
I have been following this rifle for 2 years and still today it says on their website that this rifle is outta stock.
Where can I get one of these?
Please message me back.
Very beautiful and Thankyou in advance.
They have been releasing in small batches everyday from 12pm-3pm, but they sell out within minutes. You have to keep checking non-stop. I got very lucky.
To bad there isn’t a reliable source for actual Chinese Military AK mag’s I used to have box full but in the early 90’s traded them for East German mags that at the time where rare …I really wish I had a time machine or a magic 8 ball that would have told me to not get rid of “junk” …I had a couple type 56’s and the wood on this things was pretty soft I think I traded them off for a FAL but that’s a story for another day …pretty nice looking rifle thanks for sharing
The rifle is cool but the box it came in is awesome Lol.👍
Wow I didn’t even think these hit the market yet I’d be curious what day and time of day did you order it? I know there is rumored to be a specific day and time they add their fresh inventory.
Ordered mine on Thursday October 6th at 4:05PM. Sold out within a few minutes.
@@back-engineered yup bro same time I ordered my 5.56 ak it seems like that’s the magic time and day for PSA hot new items to magically reappear 😂
Great looking Gun keep up the good videos
That looks real close to my type 56.
Only thing that really ticks me off about PSA is the selector notches so far off from actual ones i don’t know why they do it
I noticed that too.
Gorgeous!!
I seen the Russian Tula kit built by soviet arms from psa for 2k+ pop up the other day I thought I was tripping
Looks dam good imo.
1100 is a bit high IMO, what is up with PSA why are the anti cleaning rod???
That's awesome.
I was wondering when they were coming out.
It was unveiled at Shot Show 2020 and that was the last I heard anything about it.
Now, when is their SVD clone coming out?
@@winkleried
That’s very unfortunate.
@@nbenicewicz I fully agree with you. I keep hoping that the above stuff isn’t true and that we will see quality domestic SVDs produced. It is a missing hole in my collection,
I talked to the owner on fb, he said not in the soon future. They still plan on making it but are still tryimg to figure out a prototype and getting the Spikers made.
I have a Polytech and just looked at the bayonet. Yes yours is upside down lmao
Beautiful!
Thanks for the video
Wonder why they will be back in stock. Don’t really like the look of the wood, it’s too yellow and has no grain.
They better have CHF CL barrels! They’re advertised as having them!
Ya. They say they do, but I just dont see it. I need to pull it out and really check. I've barely had a chance to look at the gun.
According to their website, the specs say it's a CHF CL barrel.
I think your bayonet is upside down.
It was. I just fixed it. Looks much better
does it have a cleaning kit in the stock?
Thank you for this !
Darn commie gun copy...🤣 Still pretty cool rifle- sounds like you really wanted it...glad you were able to grab one. You may like that Cerakote finish after it gets a little oil and wear on it. Thanks for sharing. Officially subscribed.
I have a couple poly spikers , I'm actually impressed with that rifle , I'd age the lumber with some used motor oil
And make sure the motor oil came out of a pre emmisions carburetored engine
@@bigchomnk2934 why exactly is that? Is there more carbon or something deposited into the oil in older, carburetor-fed engines??
@@logancurl9526 that's how engines were during the cold War era!
Versión Chinese, AK 47 by, Norinco Company
Kinda disappointing it didn’t come with a steel mag
Ya. Luckily they're pretty cheap. Unless you want a Chinese flatback mag. Those are stupid expensive.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for this?
I would never be able to justify such a plain Jane AK which also costs $1100. I’d much rather spend that exact price for a decked out ak-74
are these built from imported parts
kjts?
They are not. They are 100% US parts.
How much was the spiker aks. They took the price down.
I'd love one but I can't afford or justify the price.
I wanna know how much do they paid for the blue prints
PSA is to be congratulated for their efforts! Those are supposed to come with CHROME LINED Barrels! Your Bolt/Carrier assembly looks CHROMED not polished.
