I have an xb43 and an xb23. I take my xb23 everywhere due to the portability. Paddle boarding, playing tennis, days out and I have never needed to charge it during a day. I use the xb43 round the house and in the garden. Again, rarely have to charge it. Never tried them for long periods on full volume but guessing the fact I'm usually around 50 - 60% it must save lots of battery. I think from my experience with two of them, someone could safely buy any of the 3 speakers and they wouldn't be disappointed. Also, they say they are saltwater and rust resistant and I have had no problems whilst using mine on a paddleboard in saltwater. Just always rinse of with fresh water when you are finished and it's all good:-)
Just picked up the xb33 a couple days ago and this thing is fantastic! By far the best bluetooth speaker I have ever used/heard. It has the low resonating bass that a lot of speakers fail to deliver at this size.
The XB33 was the best perfomer for me. Not about the sound/volume/quality. Its bcuz its just a midranged speaker that can almost perform as good as the xb43. And better than the xb23 of course.
I've watched a few videos now on these Sony speakers versus JBL. I wonder why the reviewers don't make a bigger deal of the AAC and LDAC support of the Sony. JBL offers neither AAC or APTX (LDAC is Sony specific I think). Simply receiving the audio via bluetooth using AAC or LDAC means the Sony is starting with a better quality source than the JBL (or other brands with similar lack of high definition codecs). Maybe the difference of codec support is less obvious than hardware differences? Though, audio sync issues should be lessened with HD audio sources.
Price has lowered a bunch since these came out, making it harder to justify buying the tiny sounding XB23. My favourite is obviously the XB43, if you're bothered about carrying a speaker with you it's not the extra mass coming from XB33 that is going to bother you. Battery life can be easily extended with a powerbank that can charge 5v 2A minimum, and getting better sound is easy choice for me.
Honestly I don't listen to it at 100 percent volume most of the time but the xb33 should last way longer than 3 hours. I've taken it out camping and it always lasts for several hours with the lights on idk the max length because it's never died on me. Honestly probably keep it close to 60 to 70 percent volume most of the time.
So basically, the XB 23 is Sony's equivalent of JBL's Flip speakers while the XB 33 is the equivalent of JBL's Charge speakers while the XB 43 is the equivalent of JBL's Xtreme Speakers, right?
I am trying to get one and was thinking to get the XB33 but the lack of AUX jack is why I am gonna go with XB43. Since I will be using in the house for listening lectures and watching movies on my mini projector. After watching this video I got better understanding of the differences. Thanks.
i'm sad that they discontinued this style of speaker with the cool led lights. their current lineup sure is portable compared to this old XB series speakers, but I don't like the newer speaker designs.

Please review the Bluetooth performance of these kind of speakers. I’m looking for a speaker that can juggle my iPhone and iPad as well as the Big Jambox used to. Now they are constantly fighting for control when not playing anything. I love Sony sound quality, but the headphones tend to steal my iPhone voice calls in a really annoying way. From the sound test, I’d pick the XB33.
For me XB43 is the clear winner at poolside. I already have a good power bank and having that feed the beast for further runtime means lower louder AND longer.

i still have a sony speaker srs x5, i have all this 3 speakers and the only one that can drown her sound its the xb43, the x5 was aproximatly on the xb33 zone, but it has 3 speakers and 2 passive radiator while being on my personal point , of a better design, sleek and elegant, it has glass in the control panel. fully touch capacitive contrels, less the power button. and brushes metal on the sides, nfc, bluethoot and everthing, i love that thing, but yeah the bass on the 43 is much better and because it has 2 main drivers intead of just 1 it sound way more open and louder XD
Agree with 9:29. Just have received an XB43. I expected it to be louder. Its not that much loader than my old XB21. Plus the sound quality is not that great. When I can't hear the subtle & sublime backing vocals on my favourite song, it sucks. I was disappointed.
I don't understand how you squeeze just a couple of hours of battery life out of the XB43, since I have it as well and is unbelievable how long does it last on a single charge. I charge my XB43 once every 1,5 months and use it with ETRABASS ON and CALM preset lights. On the opposite I did find that JBL speakers don't get even close to the advertised battery life. I had 2 JBL Charge 5 and I got ~15 hours with 10-20% volume... I also have a JBL Tuner 2 which has a advertised 12 hours battery life, but in real world use with 20% volume I can squeeze 8 hours... So... I think Sony is more honest when it comes to advertised battery life... waaay more honest than JBL.
1. I wish the XB33 had tweeters. 2. The 3 channel equaliser is gimmicky, is it possible to use an equalizer app to enhance the sound? 3. Check out your smartphone, it also has an equaliser. E.g. Settings/ Sounds & vibration / Sound quality & effects / Equaliser.

Went to curry to get the xb 43 yesterday so was playing around with the display model's the jbl xtreame 3 wasn't on the shelf only the xtreame 2 so was testing that against the xb43 and it killed it! Absolutely unbelievable the difference! So asked if they had the xtreame 3 they just got one in from a delivery so that was perfect so ended up with the xtreame 3! It's my first jbl I'm normally sony but ca t believe the difference sony need to improve massively and this is from a hardcore sony guy! One thing I do miss is the lights there maybe not the best but they make it just that bit more special so will go pick one up anyway on next payday but so glad I picked the jbl xtreame 3 the sony you couldn't hear feel the bass because there was to much tone high up in the tweeters the vocals really overtook the bass and using the sony app made little difference and extra bass live mave little difference
My brothers got the extreme 3 and I got my xb43 yesterday. We both noticed that the sony goes lower in bass than the jbl but the jbl seems to use more highs than the sony, both on default settings. Idk if the xb43 was on stamina mode when you tested it at currys but they seem to be on a very similar level. That's what we've sound so far 👌👍
If you just want a loud ass speaker then yeah jbl is for you but if you want a good overall balanced performance then obviously sony cuz jbl sounds like shit with just highs all the time

I'm looking for a louder IP67 speaker to mount to my ATV. I have a JBL Charge 3 and a Braven BRV-1M. Both sound good but get washed out with wind noise at speeds over 30 kph at max volume. I can't have it much larger than the charge 3. I'm wondering if Sony has something to offer. Any suggestions?
the xb 43 would have been an amazing speaker if they lost one of them super high pitched tweeters there to lead vocaly it Iver takes the bass making it that headache screeching like you have to turn it down keep on rock or adjust your own EQ

Sitting the xb33 next to my xb32 and going back and for playing the same songs, to me the xb32 sounds clearer and the bass hits harder..to me the xb33 sounds muffled and the EQ on the xb33 dose not seem to make as much difference as it does on the xb32... I bought the xb33 twice now thinking i was missing something but I'm not..the xb32 does sound better to me..im returning the xb33 back to walmart tomorrow...ive been comparing them for over a week now...just my opinion, yours may be different...the muffled sound I'm talking about is mainly vocals on the xb33..
I absolutely hated the muffled, mid-forward sound of the xb32, I guess I'll hate the xb33 even more... I went with the Anker Soundcore Motion + and it sounds amazing. I normally buy from the big brands like Sony and JBL but the Soundcore blows them away. (in the mid size category)

Xb43 user here, 100% easy 6+ hour with Bass mode, and +4 hour in Live mode. We going out like 16:00 and going home at 02:00 and still having 30%

Live mode on the XB43 is actually better than extra base mode. You'll need the app for it and adjust the eq

Sony actually claims 24 hour batter life for the xb43 at 50% volume in extra bass and lights on. Can you confirm you get less than this? @4:17

Sitting the xb33 next to my xb32 and going back and for playing the same songs, to me the xb32 sounds clearer and the bass hits harder..to me the xb33 sounds muffled and the EQ on the xb33 dose not seem to make as much difference as it does on the xb32...
I bought the xb33 twice now thinking i was missing something but I'm not..the xb32 does sound better to me..im returning the xb33 back to walmart tomorrow...ive been comparing them for over a week now...just my opinion, yours may be different...the muffled sound I'm talking about is mainly vocals on the xb33..
I absolutely hated the muffled, mid-forward sound of the xb32, I guess I'll hate the xb33 even more... I went with the Anker Soundcore Motion + and it sounds amazing. I normally buy from the big brands like Sony and JBL but the Soundcore blows them away. (in the mid size category)
