At 74 years old I started to paint in watercolor, and a whopping 2 months along. I recently bought a Yasutomo NIJI 36 color set. The colors seem okay, but I wondered if you ever tried those. I am new to your channel and am really enjoying your videos. I really like the seascapes you do in your reviews. They have provided me with something to try. I slow the videos down to .25 speed so I can follow you better. Thanks for all your help.

When she would visit, she would bring back video of the trip, and no matter where she was there was nature. I grew up on a farm in Kansas, so I had nature surrounding me as I grew. I actually have the 36 pc metal box set in color pink, and personally, I would rather recommend the 24 pc version, because in watercolor you don't really need so much pre made colors in my opinion, plus the 24 color one is much more portable, and preform just as well as the 36 color piece version.
I agree to that. One can learn more on a smaller palette with 12 colors to 16 to 24 to 28 colors as the maximum. painting language speaks more about color mixing. It's the magic of the medium. There are only special cases when you'll be needing more colors on the side, like if you have specific subjests that need distinct colors that couldn't be easily relicated like those of Daniel Smith Primatek and colors with mica.
I watched this video a lot of times before deciding to place an order. Your reviews help a lot in deciding which paints to buy. I hope you’ll make a video soon about your top/fave watercolors from student to artist grade.

I don't know if I would trust their lightfastness ratings, but for things like working in a sketchbook I think they would be great. Look like Pretty Excellent to me, too.

Just ordered the same water color from lemonspace a few minutes ago! I saw someone mention you po in the reviews so I knew I had to check it out! I'm really impressed Kasi affordable Yung water colors (bought the 18 pans ones Kasi sold out na Yung 24 ;-;). For 336 pesos for me that's already a good price
Ang ganda ng case at ng colors-mukhang sushal kahit mura hahaha... gusto ko sana bilhin but right now i think tapos na ang aking hoarding season ng art materials. Also, antagal kasi maubos ng watercolors kaya yung mga binili ko noon parang bago pa rin, at saka mas type ko na gumamit ng acrylic gouache (holbein) kasi permanent sya at di napapawi ng tubig at all 😊
ok lang yan, matipid kasi talaga ang watercolor. kaya rin siguro nasabi mo na permanent and acrylic gouache eh dahil sa maya acrylic ito, so parang plasticizer yun. kanya kanyang preference din, and maganda rin na brand yang gamit mo. Holbein from Japan. enjoy! :)

have you ever try Pinax watercolor? It's a cheap russian watercolor but it says it a professional kind of and have only natural pigments in it. They buy pigment somewhere in Asia so it's interesting to compare it with corean and china brands. It's popular watercolor brand in former USSR countries. This brand produced also very good and cheap synthetic brushes.
Would love to do that experiement in time.. But knowing cheap paints, they usually crack when dried in pans. a quick fix i so is my adding small drops or honey or glycerin. :)

hello. unfortunately, I don't paint with shimmers, metallic and pearlescents etc. I'm not sure if id be able to get to hold of the metallic of Ruben for that reason.. however, if it sparks instantly, or if someone lends me his set, I'm ok review it. I've heard great things about it though. better than coliro.

I see alot of requests on Mont Marte Review... however, when i check online, there are also lots of different packagings.. now, im confused which one to choose. hahha
omg i requested this 😭😭 i'm so late to it though but i appreciate this. it's another brand i would consider buying next time. btw, there's also this other watercolor paints i discovered from a korean artist here on youtube. it's called Cake Colors from Holbein. it's not the same as their regular artist grade watercolors. as the name suggests, they're in "cake" form. the artist seems to like using it so i got curious. the problem is i can't seem to find a review about it here. it is also not available here locally... but i'm still curious. and just in case maybe then it will start becoming more available here

Hi. Yes, I've been really busy lately. The birds are free. They're not caged. So sometimes, they're loud, Sometimes they're not around. The roostets are my neighbor's. One time if i get a nice video of them, ill try to show them here. They perch on a tree near my window and sometimes on the mesh too. 😊

I have 13 of schmincke hoardom, two daniel smith, one mission. mission and daniel smith I got because the specific colours I wanted were sold out by schmincke at that time (during lockdown). I love them, but I wonder about the differences. I only know, I didn't like Winsor Newton. First, because I had trouble mixing with the small 12 colour starter set (cadm.red and casm. yellow, the blues... :-( ) and the two tubes I got whlie I was just starting out - never liked to use them (maybe because they were opaque and I didn't know, what that means at that time??) . Now I am waiting for your experience and point of view
@@nursen2106 hmm. Interesting! At first, I wasn't very much 'happy' with Schmincke .. maybe felt a bit off cause the price here in my country is much higher. Thanks to the internet i discovered Jackson's Art where prices could go to almost half cheaper especially when on Promotion sale like this season.. when i got to collect more of their colors, especially the tube colors, ive learned to loved them more. I've really been curious about their new super granulating colors, but sadly, those are available only in 15ml or sets, so, not yet this time. I got the Schmincke dot cards but it doesnt yet include the new colors.. 😊
@@AllanJayQuesada If you wouldn't live so far away, I would send you 3 or five tubes. just, so you can test them. But Philippines... that is far. If I were you, I wouldn't order from that far. But on you channel that is a bit your content. but still, not cheap (I have heard, the dot cards are not that fun wo swatch, because it the amount of dry colour is very small. but that is only a second hand opinion.)

hmmm.. Ive lost count but, i believe I now have over 70 sets of watercolors. some of the brands, ive completed the range like the Mgraham and Sennelier. i also have 150 tubes of DS. quite a lot for lifetime use.heheh
helloo, I'm not Allan, but tracing can be both considered cheating and not. Let me explain. Tracing is okay for practice, learning and all that, but tracing is not okay if you claim the art as yours and give NO credit to the photo, art, reference, or whatever it is you traced. Tracing is also okay if it's YOUR art that you are tracing. Ex. • you trace your sketch to move it to another canvas to maybe paint on. • you trace your traditional drawing to do it digitally. In a way it's kinda like cheating but not? it's more of having the answer key for certain things. idk. I wouldn't call it cheating, more of "shortcut". It really depends on what you're tracing and for what. Tho, tracing won't help you improve too much, so don't do that (at least not for a long period of time) unless you've learned the basics(?) or just want to study things like how paints work or whatever. And again, claiming the art as yours without giving credit to the reference/photo you traced. Keep in mind that there are artworks that look so real and as if they're traced, but I'm sure most of it is hard work. If not, shame on them, that's if they don't admit to tracing.
Hi Lei. I agree on everything that snul sim said. But in addition, tracing is literally just a shortcut of the drawing part. Sometimes, we do it in school or even at work, if the skill involved is not about drawing,.. for example, coloring or painting is the focus.. so, you trace to make the process faster. but ofcourse if you need to train your self to draw, go the classic way. If you are tracing someone else' art , and not credit him after, and eventually proclaim the work as yours, then that for me is cheating. You know, "cheating" is the guilt we built in our conscience, so in the end of the day, it is you and your judgement that'll really tell if it is or not a reason to be really guilty of. hehe

Hmmm. I always recommend the best items that one can easily afford (artist grade if possible).. doesn't mattet if beginners or not so, for as long as not a young child or a very 1st timer.. For the 1500-2000 budget, that's pretty much good enough amount to get your self decent artist grade paints.. so, you have the following otions (and most are available at my Shopee Store. 😉) 1. Daniel Smith halfpans (around 8pans) 220php - 300php per halfpan 2. Holbein Sets ( 12 halfpans set -1200php and 12 5ml set 1799php) 3. White Nights (12 full pans 1499php, 12 10ml tubes 1629php) 4. Sennelier (12 halfpans set - 1399php) 5. Marie's Masters (24 tubes 9ml 1389php) Also have DaVinci, Utrecht, Mijello, Qor and more. On quality Student grades, the following are good: 1. Sonnet 24 fullpans set at 985php 2. VanGogh 15 halfpans set with brush at 1699php And more. Sorry I don't understand. Do you mean, because the product was just given to me for free? So, I shouldn't be making monetization from it? But, I put effort on the video too. I used other resources too, that aren't free. I used time, which is not free as well.Recording it took me 2 hrs and editing/processing takes atleast 5hrs. It's not that easy all time. I believe, through the video, some folks get helped with their choices. Some are relaxed watching it too. Please explain so i could understand. Thanks.
You obviously do not know how much (or actually how little) money small youtubers like Allan make, and what all needs to be invested to even make videos that are high quality enough to generate enough views to make any kind of money on them.

Yes, do not expect much about lightfastness if the paints are too cheap and if the pigments arent identified. :)

btw, there's also this other watercolor paints i discovered from a korean artist here on youtube. it's called Cake Colors from Holbein. it's not the same as their regular artist grade watercolors. as the name suggests, they're in "cake" form. the artist seems to like using it so i got curious. the problem is i can't seem to find a review about it here. it is also not available here locally... but i'm still curious. and just in case maybe then it will start becoming more available here
hello po, I know this is quite late but thank you sir Allan for this review! i have been looking through some watercolor brands and i saw some reviews/unboxings with these watercolors that doesn't really tell much and you just posted in the right time i was looking for an in-depth review about this set! thank you so much Sir Allan, your review videos are such a joy to me as a young artist :), I also have a question... I'm thinking of putting the half pans in a metal tin that only fits 12-14 half pans so i can travel with them once i get them, do you think a half pan of the o.win set will fit a normal 12-14 half pan metal tin? thank u in advance ^^

Hi. Yes, I've been really busy lately. The birds are free. They're not caged. So sometimes, they're loud, Sometimes they're not around. The roostets are my neighbor's. One time if i get a nice video of them, ill try to show them here. They perch on a tree near my window and sometimes on the mesh too. 😊

I have them, both tubes and pans, but im saving them a bit for last. Schmincke is one of the best. 😊

I have 13 of schmincke hoardom, two daniel smith, one mission. mission and daniel smith I got because the specific colours I wanted were sold out by schmincke at that time (during lockdown). I love them, but I wonder about the differences. I only know, I didn't like Winsor Newton. First, because I had trouble mixing with the small 12 colour starter set (cadm.red and casm. yellow, the blues... :-( ) and the two tubes I got whlie I was just starting out - never liked to use them (maybe because they were opaque and I didn't know, what that means at that time??) . Now I am waiting for your experience and point of view
@@nursen2106 hmm. Interesting! At first, I wasn't very much 'happy' with Schmincke .. maybe felt a bit off cause the price here in my country is much higher. Thanks to the internet i discovered Jackson's Art where prices could go to almost half cheaper especially when on Promotion sale like this season.. when i got to collect more of their colors, especially the tube colors, ive learned to loved them more. I've really been curious about their new super granulating colors, but sadly, those are available only in 15ml or sets, so, not yet this time. I got the Schmincke dot cards but it doesnt yet include the new colors.. 😊
@@AllanJayQuesada If you wouldn't live so far away, I would send you 3 or five tubes. just, so you can test them. But Philippines... that is far. If I were you, I wouldn't order from that far. But on you channel that is a bit your content. but still, not cheap (I have heard, the dot cards are not that fun wo swatch, because it the amount of dry colour is very small. but that is only a second hand opinion.)

hmmm.. Ive lost count but, i believe I now have over 70 sets of watercolors. some of the brands, ive completed the range like the Mgraham and Sennelier. i also have 150 tubes of DS. quite a lot for lifetime use.heheh

Sir, is tracing cheating in art???
helloo, I'm not Allan, but tracing can be both considered cheating and not. Let me explain. Tracing is okay for practice, learning and all that, but tracing is not okay if you claim the art as yours and give NO credit to the photo, art, reference, or whatever it is you traced. Tracing is also okay if it's YOUR art that you are tracing.
Ex.
• you trace your sketch to move it to another canvas to maybe paint on.
• you trace your traditional drawing to do it digitally.
In a way it's kinda like cheating but not? it's more of having the answer key for certain things. idk. I wouldn't call it cheating, more of "shortcut". It really depends on what you're tracing and for what. Tho, tracing won't help you improve too much, so don't do that (at least not for a long period of time) unless you've learned the basics(?) or just want to study things like how paints work or whatever. And again, claiming the art as yours without giving credit to the reference/photo you traced. Keep in mind that there are artworks that look so real and as if they're traced, but I'm sure most of it is hard work. If not, shame on them, that's if they don't admit to tracing.

But in addition, tracing is literally just a shortcut of the drawing part. Sometimes, we do it in school or even at work, if the skill involved is not about drawing,.. for example, coloring or painting is the focus.. so, you trace to make the process faster. but ofcourse if you need to train your self to draw, go the classic way. If you are tracing someone else' art , and not credit him after, and eventually proclaim the work as yours, then that for me is cheating. You know, "cheating" is the guilt we built in our conscience, so in the end of the day, it is you and your judgement that'll really tell if it is or not a reason to be really guilty of. hehe

Hmmm. I always recommend the best items that one can easily afford (artist grade if possible).. doesn't mattet if beginners or not so, for as long as not a young child or a very 1st timer.. For the 1500-2000 budget, that's pretty much good enough amount to get your self decent artist grade paints.. so, you have the following otions (and most are available at my Shopee Store. 😉)
1. Daniel Smith halfpans (around 8pans) 220php - 300php per halfpan
2. Holbein Sets ( 12 halfpans set -1200php and 12 5ml set 1799php)
3. White Nights (12 full pans 1499php, 12 10ml tubes 1629php)
4. Sennelier (12 halfpans set - 1399php)
5. Marie's Masters (24 tubes 9ml 1389php)
Also have DaVinci, Utrecht, Mijello, Qor and more.
On quality Student grades, the following are good:
1. Sonnet 24 fullpans set at 985php
2. VanGogh 15 halfpans set with brush at 1699php
And more.

Love your channel but I had to give this video a thumbs down for the following reason. You minutiae a video on which the product used to create the wealth was freely given.
Sorry I don't understand. Do you mean, because the product was just given to me for free? So, I shouldn't be making monetization from it? But, I put effort on the video too. I used other resources too, that aren't free. I used time, which is not free as well.Recording it took me 2 hrs and editing/processing takes atleast 5hrs. It's not that easy all time. I believe, through the video, some folks get helped with their choices. Some are relaxed watching it too. Please explain so i could understand. Thanks.
You obviously do not know how much (or actually how little) money small youtubers like Allan make, and what all needs to be invested to even make videos that are high quality enough to generate enough views to make any kind of money on them.
