That housecoat is just adorable. It looks like something my Mom would have made for me. I really love this channel because it has made me realise all the loving work that went into the clothes that my Mom sewed for myself and my sister and our Barbie dolls.

I Agree! Mom sewed similar clothing for my sister and I…my favorite with the adorable babydoll pjs she’d make for us too wear during the hot summer months - typically in gingham or seersucker. I so love this channel! And you are correct…I never realized, until I began sewing, how much skill and effort it took for my Mom to create these wonderful clothes for me.

My grandmother sewed most of my sisters and my clothes. I never realized how beautifully made until after she passed, and I was making my own clothes or buyng when I had the money. My mom was also a great seamstress, but also worked full time. The only problem was when my grandma sewed us matching clothes..how embarrassing!

Love that! I never thought about the difference between housecoat vs robe! You are so right! I also like your tip on cutting the pieces as you need them. If you have to pause sewing you don't have to figure out what to do with the pieces and not get pattern messed up, etc. TFS!! 💜

CONGRATS🥹💕❤️❤️. No lie the long version of this housecoat was the very last thing I made before going into labor then it sat on the dress form until I came home. It was the first thing I put on and I wore it nonstop for months I can’t recommend a flattering/ convenient housecoat enough. It’s practical but you still feel beautiful.

You mentioned that you hadn't seen a housedress-specific pattern. Cris Wood Sews has the Casita Dress, which is inspired/based on the Mexican housedresses in her Latina heritage. It would look really cute with some embroidery. Folkwear Patterns also has the Mumu pattern which would work similarly, and it comes with an explanation of the history behind Mumus. I remember my Great Aunt Sandy wore Mumus whenever she was home for the day; I think she even passed away wearing one, but I could be wrong about that detail.
