I want to give tips as a local, but please don’t take them as judgmental or negative. I live in Flamingo actually, my husband works in Utilities here in Everglades. The Flamingo Campground would have been a better choice in April. We do often get a sea breeze where as Long Pine Key doesn’t. Actually Long Pine Key closed for the season probably the week after you were there, as it’s now closed. Everglades is absolutely beautiful and most certainly van life (or even tent) worthy in winter. In Flamingo, February and even beginning of March; we have outstanding weather. I just think you came here at a rather not so fun time. Our seasonal staff are all gone by May 1, and we are rather a ghost town until November. I also have followed you a bit before watching this video and I think you’d have loved it if you had come in like February and taken time to hike areas such as the Anhinga Trail, Pahayokee Overlook, Mahogany Hammock, West Lake, and seen a sunset from here in Flamingo. Also I’d recommend a shake or smoothie from Robert is Here instead of Gator Grill. Heck our food truck here at the Marina is actually pretty tasty. We have crocodiles here in the Flamingo District as well. The manatee are typically on the side closer to the actual marina. To answer your water question, it’s actually illegal to give manatees fresh water so if your a boater getting water from those pumps, you aren’t supposed to purposely give it to the manatee. The Coe Visitor Center up near where you camped is worth a visit also, better than the VC in Shark Valley. I do hope you enjoyed the Keys! Even in April they are absolutely gorgeous! I’m currently working on reorganizing my playlists and will be separating out my Everglades content into a separate playlist, so check that out sometime if you’d like. Best wishes for continued awesome discoveries on your journey! ~ Kristina
Not judgmental at all! Thank you for taking the time to give such thoughtful advice. I hope it helps the next person making a trip to the Everglades! We wanted to stay at the campground in Flamingo but we needed cell signal and it was only available at Long Pine Key campground, unfortunately. We also wanted to stop at Robert is Here but the line was crazy! It looked like a great place for sure! Thank you again for watching and commenting, I truly appreciate it!
Fun video! ❤ We also went down to camp in the Flamingo campground, but no one was there, and we had no cell service to call to see if we could stay there. 😜 It was off season time in October. But I heard it’s busy in the Winter. The spraying of manatees is not people being mean to the manatees, but because the manatees love to drink the fresh water. And it’s not safe for them to be in the dock area. P. S. I love manatees too. 😍
Not in late fall through Early spring. Also, you cannot accurately compare North Fl/Panhandle to South Florida too many cultural, geographical, and climactic (mainly Nov through April -mid May in n FL) differences to fairly compare on many levels. SHOULD have been made into two States....a "North" and "South" Florida.
North Florida is FAR MORE comfortable in Aoril than South Florida. North Florida nights still are chilly and days are mild to warm with humidity levels the lowest they'll be all year. I have experienced freezes in north Florida in april as well as the occasional highs near 90 but with low humidity...20-30% afternoon humidity level percentages.
I don’t know if there’s any better sleep than during a thunderstorm in our camper lol. I can sleep like a baby. Great video. Happy nuptials to your friends and safe travels!!
We just did a New Orleans trip in March to escape the midwest winter for a bit. We caught some great weather for our trip. Took an airboat ride there too.
Hmm I looked but didn't find one! Then realized the info video they sent us said you must be plugged into shore power for any of them to work. But that would be great if there was at least one! We should have just brought our portable power inverter but totally forgot.
There is not much camping in Florida in the summer, just like there is not any camping in northern Minnesota in winter. I take my RV to Florida for January, February, into March. Finding camp sites for that time of year is challenging, but worth the effort. This not only for getting to miss the winter of the north, but to get to enjoy the outdoors in nice weather of the south. It is worth the effort even though I have to winterize the RV twice. Once in the fall after summer use, and again before I come home to Indiana from Florida in March. Some say that I should stay down there untill June. I have to come home and get all my Income Tax info to my CPA so he can file it for me before it incurs fines and penalties.
Fun video! I think south Florida would be better in March maybe? Or October? Without hookups anyway. I really wanna go on one of those air boats! We live in TX (DFW) and love to go to Corpus or Gavaston but not in summer. It's usually nice there in April and May but we always get hookups anyway. Ya never know lol. I hate to sleep in heat, yuck. 😬
I think January/February would be the ideal time! We just planned it around a time we were already going to be down there, fully expecting it to be pretty hot and muggy! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
Is Florida RV or van life friendly? 😅 As someone that lived in Florida for 5 years sold a house and has been doing the RV life full time....we high tailed it out of Florida so fast and have yet to go back and try the RV thing there..way too hot, no hiking, alligators, heavy thunder storms daily, soooo many bugs...our favorite time of year in Florida was January & February. (Large RV show in nation happens at this time) There's a lot of other great places that have been way more RV friendly.
I would guess no one’s camping there because you don’t have any power to run AC. The biggest advantage to full-time are being is doing your best to stay where the weather is nice all year long.
Season is over, snowbirds gone, mosquitoes are back and rainy season are the reasons why you were one of the only one at camp! Also you did not visit the best parts of the park. Looks like it was last minute planing.
Mosquitoes actually weren't bad! Not compared to Minnesota in the spring, at least. As far as planning, we booked the van long ago but you're right, we decided to just give it a shot once we got down there. You're welcome to drop a comment with what you consider the best parts of the park for others to check out!
I learned my lesson to not come to the Everglades in the summertime. The bugs was brutal. But I also did the gator park airboats. It was awesome.

Glad to know we're not the only ones who experienced the ghost town!
I always get so excited when I see you've posted a new vid! You guys are great! Please don't stop! These are so well done!!
Oh hey, I know you! Thank you!
apparently Florida is like that ...storms roll in and out almost daily

South florida is too hot, you would have to have hook ups to be comfortable. And the mosquitoes can be really bad.
The mosquitoes actually weren't bad! At least, not compared to Minnesota in spring :). But yeah, it was quite muggy! Still a fun adventure

It was very peaceful until the intense stuff started! Love a good rolling thunder at night :)

Awesome! Thanks for watching & commenting
There should be atleast one outlet in the van with a tiny sticker on it that says 12v to use when not plugged into shore power

I agree, other places we've visited are way more RV and van life friendly but we wanted to give it a try! I'm sure it would be great in Jan/Feb!

I guess! We've dry camped so many places that didn't have ideal conditions (Utah in the summer) but I guess Florida is just different!
@@WorkinfortheWild yep, humidity.
at 15:11, cole is showing off them cakes
