    Miami native. I'm definitely the guy that you would consider going overboard but the only reason why is because over the years I have gone without certain things and learned my lesson

    I live in the swamps of south Florida and I use 100% deet but I don't put it on my skin. Just use the deodorant stick type deet and rub it on your collar, sleeve ends and pant leg ends. It's strong enough to keep them off you without putting any of the highly toxic chemical on your skin.

      Scott, great tip…I’m going to give that a try. I bought a spray bottle of permethrin several years ago to treat my clothes but still haven’t used it. Apparently it’s a known carcinogen. Usually I just wear long sleeves and deal with the heat and bites

    • @captainKedger

      In most survival situations the first thing I do when I find water is cover myself in mud. That way I can skip all the chemicals and hunting is easier when your prey can't smell you coming.

      Have you tried coating your clothes with permethrin? Works for me and doesn't eat away the fabric.

    I think it would be of interest if you gave an opinion of someone like 23 year hiker van/motel camper Brian Laundrie and how long he might actually able to survive if he was also attempting concealment. *Without extraneous content regarding hypothesis that he is not there*

      The problem todayIsn't with everyone expecting things or "stings attached".The problem is there a lot of people with hurt & pain out there "virtually" & a majority of them aren't healed & hurler if others makes them feel good...cause it's not face to face & they can disappear again. You said what I told you reminded you of your mom. Well, I'm a child of a narcissistic mother. If someone or something reminds me of my mom... It's not a good thing. Just saying.

    Hey is it safe to eat animals in the Everglades like fish or snakes even? I heard there’s mercury in the fish and pythons and they shouldn’t be eaten, I’ve even heard it’s not advised to drink the water there due to heavy metals in the water.

    • @shugocharaikuto
      @shugocharaikuto 2 года назад +2

      There's certain spots where mercury is higher but as long as you don't eat fish for every meal for weeks on end you'll be fine.

    @7:40 is simply not correct, at least in Texas. I've had 2 water moccasins turn and charge after me from 50 feet away, and they were laser focused on my buddy and I. We were forced to run

    • @robertbates6057

      Yeah, they CAN be aggressive. It's a little naive to think that you aren't in danger when wading through the glades. He seems more woke than awake. A really large gator may consider you food. They are instinctual (brain's the size of a walnut). At about 10+ feet, they can be dangerous.

    • @kernwildlife

      “More woke than awake,” love that. Think you missed the over arching message of this video bud.

    • @kernwildlife
      @kernwildlife  Год назад +2

      I’ve heard similar stories but after dozens upon dozens of moccasins encounters here in Florida, I’ve never had one “chase” after me, and I seriously doubt they’d risk wasting their venom, which is metabolically expensive to produce, unless it was to catch prey or in defense of their lives.
