Regardless of how anyone feels about swapping the v8 for a 4 banger, that performance is truly an engineering feat. Normally automakers drop 2 cylinders to help reduce emmissions, so I'm really surprised they literally chopped the motor in half. Imagine the performance they could've had as a v6 instead😳

4 banger producing a massive horsepower and torque is absolutely crazy! Kudos to Mercedes for that super advanced technology. I can tolerate the sound with all that massive power and toque. but in all fairness it doesn’t sound like a 4 banger at all. I wouldn’t change the exhaust.
This car is amazing for a 4 cylinder. The technology is amazing to produce close to 700 horsepower. And it is all wheel drive so you can drive it all year round. The sound is good for a 4 cylinder and I would buy it.

I get what everyone is saying, we all love the sound of a v8 but over 700hp and 40mpg ? On paper, this car is great and it doesn’t sound half bad for a 4 cylinder.
dont fall for the lies. It wont do 40mpg only if its fully charged which it never will be in real life. And only for the fist 60miles. The car is a fraud also the engine will fall apart after 100k miles. This car is made to be thrown away after 5 years.
@@spawn11 :D 4 cylinder engines are otherwise only known from small cars, but 4 cylinders also have advantages, and you Americans in particular should be aware that size always matters ^^ so a 4 cylinder with a decent displacement is in no way inferior to a V8! Except for the sound, perhaps. An 8-cylinder engine can generate more power than a 4-cylinder engine of comparable size because it can burn more fuel in the same amount of time. The 4-cylinder works more efficiently and more economically. However, if you now enlarge the 4-cylinder engine so that it has the same power as a comparable 8-cylinder, then we have 2 equally powerful engines, with the 4-cylinder having better response and efficiency :) So it depends on the size ^^

Actually I’m not even mad at it, the way I look at it is it’s still the base level model of Mercedes just the AMG version, and even though the engine is smaller it does not sound horrible and the power is perfect, it has amazing luxury, the BEST sound system in a car, plus all the other amazing things Mercedes does, I do see what people don’t like about it and I can understand but personally I love it and will definitely get one in this exact spec if I can!! Previous V8 was twin turbo 503hp with 516ft lb torque. The new I4 has a single turbo with hybrid putting out 671hp with 752ft lb torque. This would smoke the V8.
Exactly! This car is faster and all they care about is the sound. They would rather lose the race and go home and say but I won with the sound. SMH LOL
This car demonstrates mankind's advance in car drivetrain technology. Performance hybrid is going to be the new norm, like it or not. ICE + battery have room for expansion and development, especially in the performance aspect. 4 cylinders not everyone's cup of tea but look beyond that, the performance is something of a statement.
0-60 in 2.9s is insanely fast, but the EQE AMG does it the same and will lease for HALF what this will because the EQ-series EVs have been a horrible sales failure.
Wonder why peoply love devices when they evolve into smaller sizes but yet more powerful like our tv's and phones , but with cars and engines....we want them bigeer😂
I actually thought Mercedes would do okay with new AMG customers who hadn’t previously experienced the 4.0L VI (or with previous CLA/GLA45 customers upgrading)…but I guess not so much haha. Those of us lucky enough to have owned the W205 C63, or even W204 are obviously looking elsewhere. I’ll of course consider the 4.0 CLE63 if it becomes reality, but until then I’ll enjoy my M4 LCI 😊
This car is just bad in general its heavy it sounds dumb its impractical because the trunk is small. It overheats on the Autobahn. The way its being used will trash the engines in a few years. Hybrid power and then from 0-5000 RPM in a second on the Autobahn. Insanity.
Excellent car, Joe! Although I think I would go for the CLE 450 instead. I always prefer a more conservative appearance, glossy or metallic paint for me. Too bad that Mercedes Benz put fake exhaust on the non AMG CLE. Anyways, I hope you get your hands on one of those, I want to see that review. Keep up the good work!
If that's the same I4 they have in all their other cars these days, you've got a 50/50 it fails on you before even 30k miles. Good luck! Benz is dead to me now...
Why would I want a tesla with no performance sound at all. This car sounds great for a 4 cylinder. The Mercedes has a lot better interior. I would take this car any day over a Tesla.
It's a great car and a great engine, but a bad c63. That's pretty much my thought on it. I wish they put this motor in the smaller offerings where it was turned up to 11. I would be happy with a near 500 horsepower 4 banger, even at a higher price point. They absolutely should have put the new straight 6 in it with twin turbos putting out 550-600 horsepower. Would have been just fine. I'm almost more disappointed that they got rid of the coupes so they could dedicate a whole different model (the CLE) to being a coupe. I loved the S-Class, E-Class and C-Class coupes. Now if you don't like something about the CLE but love coupes, you're screwed.
I would zonk the 4 cylinder and the noise pumped through the cabin speakers. That’s a terrible feature that tries to overcompensate for the lack of the bulge under the hood.

I think a bigger problem than the 4-cylinder is the weight. This is Model S Plaid weight and money. I have a V8 E550 that weighs 900 lbs less than this and I wouldn’t really call my car agile.

Some years ago AMG meant v8 or v12. 63 was the norm, 65 very rare and 55 more entry lvl, but still v8. Than they introduce the little ones, hot hatches (43,45 and 35), which was ok. Little race cars, lower price tag, kind of normal cars, but with a punch if you needed it. So the new C63 doesnt deserve the name, They know that too, but choose diffrent to justify the high price tag. Unfortunatly at least the european market completly ignores this car. The correct decission would have been: 1) Sry no more v8, c63 wont come back 2) Call it C45SE or C53SE 3) -30% price

The car itself is a feat of engineering with it's hybrid powertrain. However it just doesnt exude the character an amg has with its glorious v8 especially being a 63 model. Thats why amg ditched the hybrid 4 cylinder for the cle63 for the v8 that provides the character of an amg car which I believe will out sell the not selling c63 tremendously.

The EQE AMG is all electric and only goes about 225 miles on a charge. This car uses gas so there is a big advantage when going on long trips.

displacement does not necessarily mean bigger engine metrics. Thos drivetrain is huge and heavy. Its the same weight as an S Class 20 years ago.

Thats why amg ditched the hybrid 4 cylinder for the cle63 for the v8 that provides the character of an amg car which I believe will out sell the not selling c63 tremendously.

I have an Audi TTS which is a fairly expensive 4 cylinder, but $100k for a 4cyl…..yeah they won’t be selling many of these I feel.
