Clarification on the divorce dates.
Lucy filed for divorce in September 1944 because she was convinced that Desi was being unfaithful to her and also because he came home drunk several times. Lucy didn’t go though with the divorce and returned to him before the interlocutory decree became final. Lucy and Desi officially divorced in 1960.
She knew very well he was unfaithful, and so was she, it's said.
Desi Arnaz talked about Lucy toward the end of his life. Maybe was on Johnny Carson or some nighttime talk show. He teared up and said "She was the one.' It was so touching.
That’s right it was Carson.
Wish someone who show when Lucy received the Kennedy Center Honor Award. At the end of Lucy's segment someone (I believe it was Lucie) came out to read a letter Desi wrote for the occasion because he was unable to attend due to his cancer. The letter ended with "After all these years, I still love Lucy." There wasn't a dry eye in the house - including Lucy's!
Just breaks my heart because you could tell how much they loved each other. I hope they are reunited in Heaven ❤️
I bet they did. Just before Desi died he was on the phone to Lucy talking old times
He was a cheater. And if she’s reunited with anyone it’s with her 2nd husband!
@@DippyHippie cheater yeah but she still loved him and was in love with Desi till the end. Even her second husband said so.
I remember the Brady Bunch episode where Marsha got to meet Desi Arnaz, Jr. and he was so freaking cute. I was a little younger than the Marsha character but I remember me and my two sisters and our little friends crowded around the tv to watch that episode. Good times....
I love stories like yours. Thanks for sharing!
I am remembering it as Davy Jones of the Monkees but whoever it was, that was a wonderful episode!
@@juleereeves it was Davy Jones. I’ve watched every Brady Bunch episode and don’t recall Desi Jr being on that show. During the 70’s he was performing music with Dean Paul Martin and working on Here’s Lucy. I’m not sure that he was doing guest appearances on other shows.
@@fidelnenas8390 Desi Jr. was a guest on the show, too. @szqsk8 is right.
Later on when older Maureen and Desi Jr. were in an episode of 'The Love Boat'' together. She sure changed by then. The 2 looked so great together!
no matter what happened in their marriage break-up------DESI AND LUCIE - always loved each other from their hearts---and always will---....
They loved those kids too.
Desi cheated on Lucy left and right.... that's not love. She loved him, but he didn't love her.
In of her last interviews she said : she married a loser. That hardly sounds like a loving comment
@@hornet6969 Yeah because Desi was everything except a loser.?
Lucille Ball cheated too, with Henry Fonda inclusive.
My eldest brother Joe was born on April 28th, 1952, my parents had their first apartment, my father worked late sometimes at his family bakery in South Philly. One night my mother was watching "I Love Lucy" in the apartment, the "Candy Factory" episode, my mother recalled how hard she laughed, my brother who's was still a todler, was in his playpen, he stood up in the pen, and he was laughing so hard at my mother! Mom always remarked on that night, and that episode! RIP Mom, Dad and Brother Joe!
Mark Conti it’s not called Candy Factory called “Job Switching”I have the complete set of DVD’s for all 6 seasons
Way to kick a man when hes down.
Mark Conti 🙏🏼🙏🏼🌹
Excellent story. Thank you for sharing.
Lucy Huerta who the hell cares...that wasn’t the point of the story...you and everyone else reading knew the exact episode being spoke of by calling it candy factory episode....had it been referred to as job switching not a soul on this planet besides you woulda known wth the OP was talking about....
I love Lucy's whole family. I miss her, and I am grateful for being born in a time when she was here in my generation.
I always thought when my mother was young she looked somewhat like Lucy and even wore her lipstick and hair like her. I grew up watching Lucy and Desi reruns and that theme from I Love Lucy always takes me back to my childhood. When I watch her now, I have a totally new appreciation for her - so ahead of her time, daring and super-talented. We need more women like Lucy :D
YES. An icon. Became successful before ILL. Took care of her mother so Mom wouldn't have to work ever again. Was a strong dependent woman long before Women's Lib. Became an issue in the 70's...
I believe they always loved each other but could not be happy together. They gave us so much and I Love Lucy is a program I watch with my granddaughters and they laugh just as I still do. They were magic on the small screen, but as hard as they tried, they could not make the marriage work. It was so sad when they divorced. I saw a video of both Lucy and Desi in the pool at their daughter’s home with the grands, and Lucie said that was a favorite picture of them together. I still love Lucy and the show they left us to enjoy!
Yes beautiful family 👪
These pictures depict an incredible, undeniable love that two parents feel for their children. At the same time, it shows a bond between two people who are connected by more than any words can ever explain.
Amy Wells The last sentemce brought me to tears. I am glad they made TV Shows. It is pure Gold and Luck for me. Love it.
Beautifully said. ✌
Amy Wells I am crying...your words...

Lucy was always so glamorous 🤩 i find myself hardly ever doing my hair and makeup these days with a 2 year old son, but Lucy seemed to always be put together, hair and face always done. I love her
I know their son, Desi Jr, personally. He and his wife owned the dance studio and ballet company here, and I danced for them for many, many years. I still keep in very close contact with his wife, who was my first ballet teacher. :)
That's awesome 😀 I loved him in "Here's Lucy" 😀
Didn’t his wife die a few years ago?
@@RevLeigh55 yes. Miss Amy died of brain cancer in 2015.
Rest in Peace, Desiree Anzalone aka Lucille Ball's great-granddaughter. So sad she is gone, only 31 years old. She was a beautiful soul. She will be missed. ❤❤❤❤
She's in Heaven with her great grandmother
I heard about that too. May she rest in peace with her great grandparents
Didn't know any of her family had passed. What happened? Who's side was she from, Lucie or Desi's, Jr.?
@@lindaadams3622 Desi, Jr had a daughter when he was a young teenager. It was his granddaughter (named after Lucy's mother) who died of cancer.
Thanks for this. I especially love getting the chance to see those rare photos of Lucy and Desi together at special events or family functions when they were older. It's a shame that they didn't work together again, if not Desi doing a cameo on one of Lucy's later shows, then even in one of her mid '70s specials or in some other unrelated movie or program. I'm glad they remained friendly.
The 2 did work together. Not as a TV couple but Desi was helping produce The Lucy Show. The 2 remained close friends after divorcing. Had a strong connection
lucy gave us so much to remember. I still watch her shows with love and admiration for the many gifts.
I'M SURE THEY BOTH HAD THEIR FAULTS, BUT I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT THEY STILL LOVED EACH OTHER EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT TOGETHER. DESI KNEW HE HAD MADE POOR CHOICES, AND MOST LIKELY REGRETTED THEM. THEY STILL HAD A WONDERFUL SHOW WITH TONS OF LAUGHS......
Michele Huffman I agree and he admit it also said that even though they remain friends he still loved her very much and I'm sure she knew that too and felt the same way too bad he cheated because they made an awesome couple and they were made for each other
Michele Huffman you're right. He was a womanizer.
Michele Huffman of course. He never feo y for Edith what he felt for lucy was unique as their lifes chabces. Never comes twice in a Life time. Edith was just a companion. Desi was a caballero he knew how to great women. So Thats why women fell for him. Passion laughter joy Thats is a wonderful quality. Too bad alcohol changed all that
Poor choices? Repeatedly cheating, lying, sneaking around, putting his own desires first, humiliating his wife year after year, and disregarding her feelings.... What is your definition of love? Why do people transfer their feelings for a television character to the person? Lucille Ball was not a warm person and Desi was a bum. Their kids turned out to be obnoxious as hell. I loved the show buttttttt they were as flawed as anybody else. I wouldn't consider there relationship to be one of the great romances of history just because they made a funny husband and wife television show.
Brett Brett You didn’t know them, why the bitter tirade? I believe they had problems but truly loved one another. Both said so later in life despite remarrying
Went to Florida for 2 months. Up every morning at 4:00 am just to watch I Love Lucy repeats, watched them for 3 hrs straight and never got tired of any of them.
I still watch them too, even on RUclips when they aren't on tv at certain hours.
Still up everyday...
Lucy was one the greatest female comics of her time along with Carol Burnett two the great comics of their time.
They were such a sweet, loving, and adorable couple. I will always love them and keep them in my hearts forever. 🇺🇸🇨🇺💕❤️💝😇🙏🏼📺🎥
Most definitely they still loved each other 💓 Desi was the love of her life, she loved Gary Morton but Desi is where her heart was,
That was the last thing Lucy said to Desi over the phone, a day or two before he passed away. "I love you. I love you. I love you. And Desi told her the same. Their daughter, Lucie, held the phone to her dads' ear...and heard the whole thing. Lucie said her mom said I love you about 20 times.
They were a very beautiful family.

They brought laughter into our homes, and joy, and you always hoped and prayed for the best for them. They had what it took to make us laugh. There will never be another Desi, and Lucy. I hope their children are happy. God bless them.
I watched this with so much nostalgia and sadness. They had everything but couldn't hold onto it. As with every human situation, it takes two. I think that Desi either couldn't express his dissatisfaction with Lucy or loved her too much to disclose it. Again I will say, there are two sides to every story. God bless them both!!!!!
@@nottoomuch87 yes he was, deeply, he loved her to the end, he just wanted his cake and to eat it, he always said he would never had left Lucy ever, but finally she could not put up with it
The different cultures was the main reason. Latin and European women at the time accepted infidelity as normal while American women were not.
@@misssparkles7520 It wasn't just the cheating. The alcoholism as well as the gambling. It was just becoming worse & worse!
Lucie said about her parents, "she hurt him with her words and he hurt her with his actions." You are right about two sides to every story, im certain it wasn't all Desi's fault. He drank and cheated and she was a very hard edged control freak. With all that said, I still miss both of them all these many years later. I was in my teens when they died and to this day wish they hadn't divorced. Gary Morton said when Lucy died that now she can finally be with Desi. That divorce didn't kill a love as strong as theirs. Talent as great as theirs will not be seen again, at least in our lifetime. ❤
Three miscarriages? That’s really rough. My sister had multiple miscarriages and never was able to get a child out. My cousin had her first and only child at 44. It’s amazing she was able to continue her career, in comedy no less, after all those heartbreaks. Good on her.
Actually the oldest woman to have a baby was a 65 year old woman from The Philippines and was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
@@jasonpalacios2705 I remember that. It was implanted; it did not occur naturally. I believe it was to carry a child for her daughter or granddaughter. My sister’s body was no longer functional after an abusive husband caused the final miscarriage. My mom had my little brother at 45. Naturally too.
What a bunch of beautiful memories , the best comedy show of all times and they really did care for each other Desi was just a little weak with lifes temtations !!
Alot weak...
She looks so happy with her babies💖
Just my opinion. Desi Arnaz was a great American. A great innovator. He is one of my all time favorite Americans. Without a doubt a great man and so likable and lovable. 👍👍to Desi Arnaz.
Such a beautiful family. Desi would never have anyone love him as much as Lucy. Glad they were able to remain friends. They will never know the impact they have had on generations of families that loved and still love I Love Lucy. My grandmother could not stand TV, and the only exception was her love for Lucy. She would say it was the only thing worth watching and they could have the rest. We love you Lucy........
If it hadn't been for Desi Arnaz's genius, "I Love Lucy" would never have happened. He and he alone created that empire and cultural icon.
+Heru- deshet So true. Anytime anyone would try to give Lucy credit for their success, she would set them straight and let them know that if it wasn't for Desi, I Love Lucy would never be. He was an incredible business man and the brains behind the legacy.
His second wife and Lucy were close friends and remained that
His second wife was a wonderful woman.Indeed she loved him equally as Lucy did
Desi produced "The Untouchables" he was once accused of portraying Italian Americans in a unsavory light. In respect to the Mobsters in the episodes. To which Desi replied "Whatchoo wan me to do?Makem all Jews???".....Desi had steel b#!!$

i remember when their daughter got married. i think it was summer 1971. i was really young but she was maybe 20. my mom showed me a pic . it might have been on the front page of a new york newspaper.
Lucy has a niece that looks so much like her, she looks more like her than her own kids, kind of strange. She's Lucy's brothers daughter.
Desi Jr. seems to favor his father where Lucie seems to favor her mother's mother. When they were younger, the Arnaz offspring did seem to look alike
They were AMAZING, CARING PARENTS, they did it all for their children, that is what love is, sacrificing everything for the well being of their children, and on top of that the most talented couple, wish more parents were like them, children would grow up loved and cared for, and that is what is lacking with these late generations.
I always loved that show
Everyone smoked back then, not sure her miscarriages were due to smoking. She smoked with the last 2 pregnancies.People also drank liquor back then too. Dr's didn't tell them not to. MANY babies in that era were delivered to full term. Other medications could have been taken by people the during pregnancies who knows. All I know is many smokers and drinkers delivered healtyh babies to full term. It's a fact.
She worked a lot also and maybe should have been on bed rest
Audra Baldwin Yes, both hers and Desi’s busy schedules likely played a role in her miscarriages.
This is just so sweet . . . Brings tears , to think of the old days . . . . XOXO
Leave them alone.
They had love.
That’s all that matters
I Love Lucy❤️
Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and talk to Lucy and Desi so they could stay together. I always felt even though they had their differences, they still loved each other till the day they died. God Bless them both!
Well, Lucy tried very hard to keep the marriage together. But I guess it was becoming Too Much. It wasn't just his cheating, but his drinking & eventually his gambling.
There were constant yelling bouts also. It just was no longer working. It wasn't I Love Lucy in real life.
Their mutual love etc did come across the TV show when Lucy was pregnant but there was a breaking point eventually.
Both Desi Sr. & Lucy remained close friends after the break up.
I sometimes wonder what happened when Desi Sr. remarried if all of that stopped. Both were happy it seemed to ith their 2nd marriages but the 2 will always be remembered for their iconic I Love Lucy connection. Desi Sr always stated it wasn't just a title
I didn't know that lucy had a wonderful family until i watched the videos. It was amazing. I was glad that she had lived happily ever after with two wonderful men.
2:41 is my favourite bc there's not many photos of them with Desi in the later years on the internet

In a well published interview, Lucy stated that", Desi was a loser!" A woman in love does not make a statement like this! 🤥
lucy may have divorced desi....seemed to moved on n mary gary but she never stopped carring a torch for desi....she deeply loved desi up until the day she died which is y she died not soon after desi....she resented him for throughing their love away.....if you watch her interview with barbara walters her love for him is very clear...she almost went to far until gary chimed in....there is no way that gary did not know this prior to this interview...

Her love for him was clear? No, it wasn't. That interview was nothing but bitterness and bashing Desi. Even Gary looked uncomfortable. And it was uncomfortable to watch.
Impossible for me to say if Dezi had regrets, all I know is history about the couple. Professionally they were amazing. They were business partners.
Taking home ..your work. They never stopped working. Burn out.
Via the divorce.
It’s refreshing to see two people that loved each other forever.
@@aewtx I think you're wrong, because the light of love in their eyes was palpable, right up to each of their deaths. Lucy had a lot to resent where it came to Desi, and her bitterness would never end. You cannot have hate or bitterness in your heart & soul unless you still care (love) substantially.
Lucielle Ball, Desi Arnaz ; both kids Lucy and Desi Jr; and Vivian - all made 3 generations of people around the globe laugh and smile- all in situations of life the average family identifies with . God bless

Now, that wasn't before my time. My sister and I saw it in the cinema in 1968, and then several times on television.
Good movie.
I still remember the theme song: "We rise and shine every morning bright and early..."
That was My Favourite Husband. I don't know if it's available to listen to. I Love Lucy was originally going to be a TV version of it, but Lucy demanded that Desi play the husband. The network people were very nervous because of his ethnicity and accent.
@@Fersomling I still remember going to that movie with my friend. We were in about fourth grade and put up a lemonade stand to earn money to go to the movies. I think it cost like 50 cents or less. Msfrosteetoes, Lucy did not become pregnant by some studio head. Desi Arnaz was the father of all 3 of the babies that Lucy miscarried.
Thanks for sharing that. What a great lady.
It amazes me how people take something as innocent as home movies and pics and begin to write hurtful and obviously ignorant comments.. just take it for what it is. Stop pretending like you knew these people and be civilized, No one is perfect in this world. They were real people but devoted their lives to entertainment. Just that simple.
Such beautifully heartfelt memories will never be forgotten ❤
very beautiful song "sleep now baby of mine" for this video. They did love each other to pieces, but he was a womanizer and adulterer. No woman could live like that. They stuck together for the sake of their two beautiful children. RIP for Desi Jr's granddaughter, who passed away after her battle with cancer at 31.
those were the days my friend, miss you all.
Plenty of women smoked and had successful pregnancies. They're not even sure if smoking causes cancer anymore. It's a choice anyway. No one forces you to smoke.
There's so much crap in our foods and water (and air) that if smoking related illnesses don't get ya, something else will. Besides, our lives unfold EXACTLY the way they're meant to. Tragedies, losses happiness and destinies.....all included! This was theirs!
They raised two well adjusted and successful adults. A miracle in that time and place.
Everyone could immediately see how the Arnaz family have this tremendous enthusiasm outlook in coming together through family gathering or some form of unexpectedly circumstances. It is especially interesting to see that we can now watch Lucille and Desi 's home movies. As evidenced in the story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, it seemed to have numerous illustrations in which to understand why certain incidents had taken place. In order to understand what I am talking about, you should read the autobiography of Desi Arnaz and the story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

Pamela...Lucy too she was something else....not only Desi
They had emotional issues which were not dealt with. Compulsive behaviour makes you over work and plus alcohol in excess will cause unacceptable behaviours. Desi Jr took both with him to rehab and his dad got cleaned up from alcohol n tobacco they both made peace with God. And renew their love for each other. Sad their body was affected and they died young. Desi died with his daughter he was a widower n Lucy died 3 yrs later. She never recovered from the divorce. She called it " a failure"
Such a beautiful truly loving family that will never be forgotten ❤
These treasured moments makes us appreciate the times with our own

@puupydoger Lucy actually filed for divorce from Desi in 1944, but back then, there was a waiting period before the divorce could go through. (I don't know for sure, but I guess that the waiting period was so that maybe during that time, the couple could reconcile if they wanted to.) Lucy decided not to pursue the divorce any further and she and Desi reconciled.

Right, if she filed for divorce in the 40s and the kids were born in the 50, there must have been something else there.
@@evelynvelasquez5551 yes so that must be why they got divorced and both remarried to other people.
How would you know that? I think Lucy once described him on tape as a man who was rather horrible. Don’t create truth please. These comments are delusional.
Hermosa familia,no debieron separarse jamas.hay mucho Amor.
These are beautiful and heartfelt pictures! I loved them as a couple!!
I have a friend who lived near Lucy and Desi and would enjoy dinner at their home on Roxbury Drive. Lucy and Desi lived normal family lives; the stardom and show business parts were about careers, but they never mixed up family life with career obligations. Lucy wanted her kids on the television show to give them something challenging and rewarding and to have time with them, rather than leaving them to hired help. Plus both were natural talents. Lucy had many friends who were not big stars , including the singer Lillian Briggs, and she was very close to the famous character actress Mary Wickes from my hometown of St. Louis. Mary was at the Arnaz home most Sundays.
It's so nice to see them as a family.
This was beautiful I love Lucy 🥰 thanks for sharing 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🙏💕
Lucy and Desi has a great family. Their only son and daughter are very talented!!
Well, you can’t help but be touched by that, even though you never knew these people!
Lucille Ball was a beautiful looking woman.
They were good parents. I've seen Desi Jr tear up when he talks about them.
I don't think Lucy and Desi's children had anything to do with the longevity. They more or less stayed together for the sake of I Love Lucy... if they were divorced, and playing a married couple on TV, nobody would believe it, and I am not sure if by TV standards at the time that CBS would've allowed them to continue with the show if they got divorced. Once the hourlong Lucy and Desi Comedy Hours aired, their marriage was on the rocks, and pretty close to over. Lucy literally filed for divorce the day after the final episode was filmed, which also happened to be Desi Arnaz's birthday. However, for a little while anyway, their professional relationship stayed intact, and Desi produced the first season of The Lucy Show and retired from Desilu after that, only to come back later with The Mothers in Law, which had some similarities to I Love Lucy.
IF Lucy filed for divorce the first time tn 1944 but changed her mind then THAT wasnt because of children or a T.V. show. Little Lucy was born in 1951 and Desi Jr was born in 1953, in between I LOVE LUCY first aired.....so SOMETHING kept then together other then children or career - it s 7 years from 1944 to 1951
+Lila Morgan it was said she thought having children and making him a part of the show could keep him faithful.
She definitely though that the children and them being on the show together would settle him down and keep him from sleeping around, but nope. She was so naïve!
She was a great women she'll be dearly missed
There will never be another Lucy
so sad 3 miscarriages over the years before Lucille was born. that's hard for any couple and woman to suffer through.... most woman might have given up trying to have kids after 3 miscarriages... but she kept trying. a strong woman who didn't give up her dream.
Awwww that's sweet. Their a beautiful family‼️♥️♥️♥️
