- If you want the best looking Monstera Deliciosa you have to stake your plant. You can use a moss pole, a bamboo stake, or even a PVC pipe to stake your plant. Once you do stake your Monstera or Swiss Cheese Plant, you'll start to see better growth with larger leaves and more fenestrations.
When grown in homes, Monsteras, have the natural tendencies to grow wide until the find something to climb. Just like they do in their natural habitat. Since these plants are such voracious growers, things can get out of hand very quickly. You need a stake your plant to keep it under control.
In this video I walk you through how to stake your Monstera Deliciosa so you can grow a bigger and better plant.

Hahahaha “if I start selling my own luxury moss poles, please ignore these comments and the links will be in the description.” 😂 So funny. You’ve got such a great personality and such great tips!8 just watched my first 3 videos from you and am so impressed with your helpful tips and concise delivery! Shared with friends and looking forward to seeing more from you! Thank you for all you do!
You're too kind. Thank you.
Haha I totally subscribed after that comment was made 🤣 and I’ll be here for the luxury moss pole launch.
Yes that was so funny!
I need help! Idk where the back is and where to put a miss pole??? It’s a jumbled mess!
can i get on the waitlist for one
Hey urs is a Monstera University...! Was struggling with my mini monstera as a beginner...found ur parenting classes so helpful..God bless u!
I’ve just seen the before and after photos of my Monstera Albo - bought in November 2023 and followed your advice for staking her up and getting the leaves facing one direction with a grow light. Six months later she’s an absolute stunner and I have you to thank. I love your channel and really appreciate all your expert advice. Thank you! (Happy to share pics 😊)
Good sound advice!! I love your stance on moss poles, but "if I make my own brand of high end poles ignore this" lmao 🤣😂😂
I love your channel💚 I just lost my job so I’m retiring and only doing plants now❣️ the simple beautiful life~
I love that he place the leaves to grow away from the stake. That will let the plant more fluffy and lushly grown-up
Thank you for this video, didn't even realise my Monstera had a back.... who knew! 🤷🏽♀️ I'm a new plant mum to many plant babies so I'm still learning, slowly but surely... New subby here! 💜
Thanks for the subscribe!
I agree! I also did not know there was a back. your videos have been the most useful so far. Thank you!
I needed answers to what is considered the "back" of a monstera. I feel confident to repot and restake now. Thank you!
I love the reporting, hunched over the tiny microphone, lol! It just made it really humorous!! ❤️
Hopefully tiny microphone will make a comeback this year
Glad I found your channel! Love your no nonsense advice, and humour!
This was so helpful and straight to the point while still including a lot of important tips. Thank you!!
This is my new favourite YT plant channel. Keep being awesome, bud. ❤
WOW!!!😳 Beautiful plants …I’m so excited and impressed with you👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
For people worried about wood poles rotting, get some silicone sealant and coat the end of the stick until the soil line (and probably a little past it)! For some reason I only thought of it the other day as I've been contemplating staking some of my plants but don't like moss poles/ coco coir poles/ or plastic/metal trellises. I don't think you have to worry about it with bamboo but probably do for most untreated wooden sticks. Also, if you don't want to pay for a stick there are plenty free outside, just stick with hardwood and sanitize/sterilize them (follow sterilizing wood for reptiles).
Just discovered your channel last night, binging hardcore today. Thank you all the work you do!
Thank you! I just purchased my first and I look forward to learning a lot from your videos
Thank you so much!! I just repotted and staked my beloved Monstera yesterday thanks to your videos
Super helpful!!! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your knowlege...been growing monstera for 3 years...didn't know about back of leave.
Hi! New subscriber here. Your video was short, to the point and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks Colleen!
Glad the video was useful.
Awesome and to the point. Subscribed 👍
Thank you for your video. You just gave me the best idea with that birch pole. I live walking distance to a forest, and there are tons of moss covered large branches laying everywhere. I am going to get some of those for my 8 monstera deliciosa's and my two thai constellations. That will be better than anything I could make or buy. Your videos are fantastic.
Thank you for all the great tips! 😊
Thank you for this info, you just saved me money 🙌🏾
I've been off work sick all week and somehow came across your channel. I have now watched nearly every single one of your videos and i am OBSESSED. Made a sneaky trip to the garden centre to pick up some perlite. Have never staked any of my monsteras so this is a new adventure for me and I am so excited! Keep up the exciting content. With love from Australia
Awesome!
Hey Lee! I just googled “stake a Monstera” and your video was the first to come up. I was so pleasantly surprised to see you at the end! I’ve subscribed to your channel now 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
I always seem to run across your videos when I need to know something thank you I'm new at this.
Thank you, this was exactly what I needed. You earned my subscription.
Thanks for subscribing!
New subscriber. Thank you so much! Your videos are so helpfull
I recently had to repot my young plant into a bigger pot as it was dying it was very droopy and when I took it out I took some of the mud of the roots and put it in a much bigger pot and moved it to a different area of my home and thankfully it is looking so well and seems to really enjoy this new area of the house. This is a great video I think I’ll have to buy it a stick or something as it is quite big so now I have some good ideas of what to buy 👍🏻
Luv it! You make the best plant videos.
Thanks!
Thanks for making a better plant parent ❤
Cool stuff! Thanks man
Im so happy RUclips brought you to me. I was so scared i got ripped off at the store. I wanted the monstera deliciosa and thought i ended up with the smaller one and was devastated. But thanks to you i was able to identify it and it is deliciosa . Soooo excited to grow this baby up!!!
Thanks for watching!
Loving your content! Keeping an eye out for your line of luxury moss poles😂🤣
Thanks for the video. My monstera is starting to get that wide look. I think I will add a pole when I repot Spring 2022.
You earned my subscription...awesome videos. Keep up the awesome job man. ✌
Great! Appreciate it. 🌱
Super helpful!
Great content. Looking forward to your line of luxury moss poles! Lol
Very helpful thank you 🙏
Love this 😍
Thanks Lee!
Thank you fr this video! :D I've been struggling with my monstera. Not knowing HOW to stake it properly. It didn't even occur to me to position the stake before putting the soil in. Time to order a proper pole & tape.
Hi Lee , just found your channel and love it !
Thank you, glad youre enjoying the videos!
🤦♀️ ah I should of found this before I blindly pushed a moss stake into my pot. Thank you I learnt things today haha
This is so informative. My daughter made a root division of her monstera and gave me 2 stems. I planted them with a pole... symmetrically. I had no idea there was a natural back and front. Why have I not heard this before ?It's definitely a wild child that I will repot. Thanks!
Thank you.
Thankyou for sharing 🙏🙏
What a nice presentation
I’m loving this channel
Thanks!
Learned a bunch, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
You are blessed, you’ve got green fingers& Toes
Very helpful thanks 👍
Here in the cold UK I'm not banking on my new plant growing as big and healthy as yours 😩
Thanks for making this video. I too don't think it's necessary to spend tons of money on factory made moss poles. I'm glad your video shows a branch for a stake. It's easy to find free things on Market Place, like a cut down tree. Instead of having it go to the dump, recycle ♻️ the branches as a pole for your plants. It gives it a natural look and saves money.
Thank you so much for this information. Can you do a video about how/where to attach the monstera to the stake?
Thanks!
Thanks, Collette! You're too kind.
Thank you beautiful. 😊
I love your videos-especially this one. I’m a Monstera collector including 2 Albos. Your recommendations are excellent and you are awesome!
You're too kind. Thank you so much for leaving a comment.
Beautiful monstera
I'm rescuing a monstera today. Super over watered in a pot with no drainage holes. Putting it in some nice terracotta and hopefully revive it.
Best of luck!
wow your plants are beautiful
Thank you!
Great tips! Thank you. I’m worth your in the bamboo poles but I did find a very nice grooved piece of wood (rough cut edge, I think Walnut?) that I planted a Monstera cutting in. Hoping the aerial roots will grab onto the bark texture for climbing.
That sounds great! Let me know how it goes.
I don’t like moss poles! Glad to know I’m not alone.
You're awesome.
No, u
good tips. need to stake mine.
summer is a great time to do it!
I'm not big on moss poles myself I like drift wood and creative ideas !! I also really love the Treleaf products have you seen them ? Great video also btw 😁👍🌿🌱
Thanks for the comment. I checked out those products they look pretty nice. I'm sure they'd work well with Hoya
Thank you for sharing your tips I have a monstera and wanted to put a moss pole. But now I will go with the Bamboo stick. And I will also wait til I repot to do so. I do not want to damage my baby's roots. Thanks again 😊
Best of luck when you repot. Just make sure the stake is thick enough to support your plant.
So helpful
Glad you think so!
thanks so much for this informative video, I learned so much! I bought a moss pole for my monstera but am too afraid to stake it because I don't want to damage the current growth pattern. I also can't figure out where the "back" is and where to position my moss pole - any additional tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance :)
Lee! Just found you and love your channel. What is your soil mix for your monstera? Thanks!
I was hoping you'd give more info on how to tie the plant to the stake. I'm assuming that's the concept. please make a video about that
Im so happy i found your channel. Great work. Just bought a monstera. Do you suggest a bamboo pole or a trellis to stake when repotting?
Thanks! I would recommend whatever is the most sturdy
LOL finally know what those neck bones are, definitely just repotted my plants last week but didn’t add the birch & and didn’t combine plants. I have three monstera plants one massive and two minis doing well, would love bigger leaves and more holes!
Maybe next season you can stake your larger plant.
Thanks for leaving a comment. Hope your neck bones are strong and healthy 😅
Just subbed… for you slick low-pro humor 😂
🌱
Got any fancy moss poles for sale yet? Thanks for this. I always learn something from your videos and they’re so approachable.
Not for sale, but I am working on something!
Loved this video!! I need to repot mine, I’m wondering what kind of soil do I need to use?! My monstera is huge and needs a post. I’ve never done this before- I don’t want to ruin, Alice 😂(aka, monstera)
I have videos on soil
My monsteras leaves are growing but the leaves are not splitting.
Also I love the stake you're using, what kind is it and where did you get it?
Your balcony looks identical to mine, minus the giant monstera.
Toronto?
hello! what did you use to help hold the stem to the steak? is that planters tape?? what other things might i be able to use?
Another thing, your moss pole doesn't have to be damp for the plant to grow into it. Unless you started off that way and there's roots in it then you need to keep it up
Thank you this was very helpful.
Great timing :D I just got a monstera pinnatipartita, I actually found your channel, while researching it's care :P But how do you know when it is time to stake the plant? :)
Good question. It does depend on the plant. For some monsteras you can usually wait until you need to control their growth (they are falling over or growing too wide). Other plants, like a monstera adansonii, or a pothos you may want to stake as soon as possible if the goal is to get larger leaves.
It depends on what look you want to go for.
So are you selling moss poles yet? 🤣 I'm a new plant mama and I love your succinct, informative videos, and the humour! 👍🏽
Ha not yet! Thanks for watching.
Love the birch pole-I l’m not a fan of moss poles - can be messy and are not attractive-. Thanks for the info and demo !
Thanks for the comment! I'm happy that store had them. They look so good and were only about $2/foot.
I need tips on alocasia🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thank you for the great video! Was very helpful! Advice question: my Monstera is winning the tug of war with my moss pole. I assume it’s because I didn’t do what you did do which was to place the pole basically at the bottom of the pot as you repotted…? And in case I missed it, did you ever start selling your own fancy moss poles (happy to give you my $ vs Amazon!)
Thanks!
🙏🏻
Love your videos! I wish I discovered them before taking possession of a neighbor’s Monstera, it never occurred to me that there would be a back versus a front. What combination goes into your Monstera soil mix?
Thanks! Find my playlist about soil!
I have one Monestera that was falling over and I used the cedar plank. Definitely an eye sore. Question I have do you wait until it's falling to stake it? I know they like to climb. Thanks!
Hello there , so I've watched about 8 diff. "Experts" on RUclips and around 4 completely different tips and tricks some even opposing but they all seem to work🤔
That said though where there was one favorite "expert" there are now 2 ! U do a wonderful job and I only need a genuine natural vibe to take a person seriously...also that seems to be alot to ask for lol ... not funny 😒.
You had me at "I'll choose 3$ bamboo over 40 $ s.w.m. Pole any day but if I start selling my own luxurious brand the link is in the description!👌 absolutely 💯! LOVE IT good stuff man! I saw a human being there not an "influencer" or a clicks obsessed internet zombi .
I'll choose the guy who embraces the risk of sounding contradictory or whatever over a robot that tells us what they think we want to hear and stretches the truth just to get clicks or $ or both any day !
Thanks for the treat I'll stake your advise to my mostera ... but w/ a coco coir pole of my own creation 😅
thank you. glad you like the videos.
Nice idea using a birch bark pole, it looks really cool! But isn't the branch starting to rot at some point? Greetings from Germany. 🙌
not after 2 years so far. its a very rot resistant wood. I dont think it will rot before the plant outgrows the pole.
💚
Wonderful!!! I have a question: can I plant my Monstera in a large planter off center and plant some companion plants with it???
Yes but your Monstera's roots might end up strangling it.
Oh I have questions, I have a monstera that the aerial roots and the “back” of the plant are in the same direction, what I need to do?
Hi Lee, I have a couple of questions. I just bought a juvenile monstera the end of may, she's lovely and very full. She has settled in and has started to put out new growth (4 new leaves coming up!) Question 1: should I wait until the new leaves have fully emerged before I repot? Question 2: Can a moss pole be used just as support, without watering it or wetting it? Right now, I'm planning on using bamboo poles. For some reason I thought a most pole would be sturdy. Thanks, and keep up the good work!!! I like that you are personable and get right to the point!
As long as your potting medium is decently well draining and you go up an appropriate size you don't have to wait. Keep the roots healthy and your plant will be fine.
Yes you can use a moss pole as just support and not worry about keeping it wet. As long as it's sturdy.
~luxury moss poles~ lmao
hahaahaha you funny! 2:29
😁 Still working on it
😂 on your comment about selling moss poles
Also what are midrib holes
I’m confused on how to actually stake a plant like which parts do I tie to the pole? Is it the monstera leaves that get tied? Do all the leaves get tied?
Hello; the leaves on my monstera plant are curled. Any advice ?
