I ended up with 2 outdoor hibiscus this summer, that I have moved into the basement. I have grow lights sufficient for seedlings and kitchen cuttings, but not sufficient for these. Very nice plant. I have 2 monsteras that desperately needs to be repotted. Just not sure what size of pot. there are in the nursery pots they came in the black ones. And not sure what soil do I use.
I have 3 others that I know are okay except the 2 big ones. What kind of wood stake is that.

You and your dad are goddamn adorable! I do want to bang my drum about cedar planks again for those reading the comments. I find it way easier to train my monstera to grow up a wide, flat surface than trying to tie it to a round pole. And personal preference, but I think it looks nicer

Basically with each new leaf, more stem is revealed. Tie each new stem bit to the pole.

Thanks for recommending that video on how to bring plants indoors from their summer vacation! It's just what I needed.
Question about my baby monstera: Along the equatorial line, when I've had them outside all year, I've always planted it approx. 1 ft away from the tree. The idea is that it crawls and its aerial roots go immediately into the soil, thus giving the stem the opportunity to become thicker/sturdier before it has to bear the weight of larger leaves.
I've applied this method to my potted Raphidophoras with success. Currently my potted Monstera probably has 2 more leaves to go before it reaches the pole and no cataphyll. Should I stake it already, or should I wait? It currently has 3 puppy leaves and 2 teenage fenestrated leaves.

If it's happy crawling and you have the space you can leave it. If it's a normal monstera Deliciosa staking sooner will benefit but if you're talking about waiting an extra 2 months in the grand scheme of the lifetime of the plant, it doesn't really matter.

Love your videos! Is that just a steak you got from a tree in your garden or something? Do I need to make sure its a certain type of wood if I do that or is it as simple as using a big branch from my garden?
A local garden center sells these birch poles cut to size. You do have to worry about it rotting. so any stick might not work.
Birch has usually rotted after 2-3 years.
Most of the time, if your plant is indoors, any type of wood will work and rot will be really rare. Outside, wood gets broken down by both weather like intense sun, a lot of water, and slugs, beetles, Earth worms and other critters. It still takes a healthy piece of wood a very long time though to rot in nature. So if you've got a dry but healthy branch from I've off your yard trees, treat it for pests and then go for it! I've heard lots of ppl use lilac branches as they get dead wood often and need pruned. In this case he was using birch. If you're super concerned about rot prevention (it will discolor from the soil and water but rot is soft and weak) you can use inexpensive candles and many the wax down and simply dip your wood/branch in to seal it off below the soil line, or you can use hot glue if the branch isn't as large. Similarly, you could use a spray sealant on the portion that will be in your soil. Goodluck!

I reported my monstera to a bigger pot and I also removed all the old soil from the roots, I replaced it with a more draining soil but still it retained a lot of water and it 3 weeks all the roots had rooted I started over with water propagations but it getting cold and I'm afraid they will die. I think the biggest mistake was doing the reppoting and the potting up at the same time. I really hope the cuttings will survive I really liked that plant 😭

I'm unsure. My general understanding is that plants can remobilize cells to create new specialists cells. So if a growth point is damaged cells could create a new one (but this is only my logic following a limited understanding).
But my opinion on buying unrooted cuttings with no new growth is 'don't do it'.
Hi Lee! So I got a monstera a few weeks back and in my country we don't have different potting mixes. Like, nurseries actually use whatever soil there is in the ground nearby. The soil my monstera has is soft when you water it, but it hardens a lot- especially the surface- after 2-3 days. It's placed outside on my balcony and gets 4-5 hours of direct morning light. I'm scared of overwatering it but the problem is I can't really stick my finger in more than an inch into the soil due to how hard the surface gets. How often do you recommend I water it?
That's the one thing you'll have to figure out on your own with experimentation.
Maybe you can invest in a moisture meter to help you tell.

If you can’t get perlite or vermiculite, you might be able to get a more airy mix by adding bark, clay balls, or pebbles to the soil. I think the Swedish Plant Guys have a good video on this.
Maybe a dumb question, but is it okay to repot an indoor monstera in the fall/winter?
It'll adjust faster in the spring but you can pot year round indoors as long as you have good lighting and follow good practice.

@@KillThisPlant i have a question, right now a have a small thai con with 3-4 leaves its veriagation is currently white but from what i see online alot of thai cons have a yellow veriagation. Can i keep it white with any method, will it stay white, or after a while will it inevitably become yellow.
@@colleenleyrer3980 as it matures it should change to more of that yellow cream colour. Not really anything you can do to alter it's genetics.

I was sent an unordered decent sized mostera delicosa with a recent online purchase, and then was told to just keep them. I have not decided if i shall keep them or give them on. For now they needed repotting and staking something fierce, and i am so pleased to have done an okay job of that thanks to your videos. 💚🪴💚
