I love how u got this car for $200 bucks man and u are getting it together…I like the content it’s probably one of the reason I come on RUclips is to see old cars restored or brought back to life
Heck yeah. Great Videos! Just picked up my '92 camero RS 305 TBI last week. 76k miles, mint interior and exterior. Going to do a fuel pump and sending unit swap Tuesday. Can't wait to get her on the road,, T-top'z off!
I still run the Tbi on my 92 Silverado. It’s the same Ecm, same Tbi units used in the trucks and cars. And it’s useable on my 350. 1990 iroc 350 heads, 083 castings, small chamber, milled, gives me 9.7:1 compression, small vortec hydraulic roller cam, rebuilt Tbi, larger cop car injectors, air horn cleaned up and milled off. Custom burned chip. 17 mpg at 80 plus. Moves the 4400 pound shortbed out pretty good. And mine is also a 5 speed. I have gone back and forth with changing the Tbi to carb. Hard to argue with 17 mpg and there is no way I could run 87 octane with my compression and a carb. The timing still controlled by 7477 Ecm. Ran this setup before I got the custom chip and 7477 Ecm and it demanded 93 octane. For me it was worth keeping the Tbi. I have a few big block Tbi units. When I change to those I will get another chip burned for the application. You would have some issues if this was an automatic car swapping to carb. You have to have a tps and the TV cable for the 700r4 to shift properly if this was an automatic. This car being a 1991 also has the vats system that has been know for issues. Cooling issue with these cars. The duct work all behind the grill is designed to route air from the bottom, not the front. If all that ducting is removed you don’t get enough air to the radiator. Make sure the relay is working for the fan for cooling. Also the china made rpm air gap intakes from professionals products come with the spacers for the 4 center bolts so you don’t have to grind an intake. Tbi pumps are 14 psi pumps. the tuned port efi would have the 43psi pump.
Man you are living my dream. I wish RUclips was around and this video up when I was young with my 89 Camaro. I wanted to do this and everyone told me it was not possible. Thank you brother for bringing my childhood back😢. After seeing ur vids I’m looking for a 3rd gen
These are great cars to work on. Not difficult, no special tools. Manual transmission is the most reliable. Just try to limit the rubber fuel line going across the engine, not only can those connections leak, but the hose can melt. The a/c is a very small hard line that should go into the a/c harness, I believe.... Great car! The 5spd V8 cars are much more rare.
Well you can alway go back to tbi if you feel like it for me id just want a mean small block with a carb get rid of as much of the electronic stuff as possible
Most of the stuff is in the description, but some things are gonna be specific to your application. If you have an automatic transmission don’t forget the kickdown adapter. Mine had the manual so I didn’t have to worry with that.
Not bad man. You probably have a little less than $1500 in it complete right now and she sounds great. I figured just a new carb or rebuilding the old one would make a big difference. There's no tell how much of that old gas was in the old carb. I just need to find me one for $200 now 😆.
@@oliverindustries2917 Thats sounds like a good deal. I would list it everywhere online. Someone will buy it for sure. I'm in thr process of fixing my 2002 with only 98k miles on her. That crappy 4L60E went out and now ot looks like i need a new top for her too. I jad to take oit all the interior and vacuum up the water out of her. If it wasn't for that i would jump on your deal.
Yep, you can use your factory harness. Some people remove the parts that they don't need for a cleaner look under the engine bay, but I didn't do that here. You need the red wire that went to the old coil, and connect that to the new HEI distributor for power. You also need the white wire that went to the old distributor, connect this to the new distributor for the tach signal to the fuel pump.
This only makes sense if your TBI has hard to repair issues or you have a modified engine. It should drive very similar to how a car with proper working TBI should drive otherwise.
@@griffparker1466 fix the tbi? great system,i had it on my 89 blazer 4.3v6,worked awsome for 250k(i did the fuel pump at 107k cost me like 20$ for the pump. ive seen many a jeep with gm tbi too, and those guys thrash on it, i saw one older dude rip off the tbi in his 71 gmc....(all it needed was a o2 sensor, that cost $15) u will miss the tbi,its ur ride so i wish u the best, love camaros!
@@oldcarnocar I tried fixing the TBI, and there’s evidence that the previous owner threw a bunch of parts at it trying to fix it as well. It had some elusive electrical issues since it sat for like a decade before I bought it. I like carburetors so I went this route, but I agree, the TBI runs good when it is all working correctly.
@@oldcarnocar If you have owned enough tbi vehicles then you would know that they are not easy to keep running good. Sometimes they cooperate but not always.
1. Stop saying it was $200 2. Stop saying those wheels and tires were on it. 3. Stop pretending that all the new brake parts were in the hatch. 4. Admit that you were too lazy to drop the gas tank and cut through the trunk floor 5. This car was never left outside, it was obviously garage kept for most of its life.
Sorry but the title ov this video is.. dumb. "how to convert TBI to carb" etc. You didn't show jack. Didn't even explain much of how or what you did. Plus you bought the worlds most generic distributor. THat would scare me. For another 50 bucks could have gotten a Summit.
Yea, the summit distributor is prob worth the extra cash but it's easy enough to switch out later if I need to. I read reviews and the module is what likes to go out prematurely on the cheap distributor, so swapping that out will prob improve the reliability. Sorry I didn't film myself working, I prefer to do my head scratching off camera and explain later how I solved any issues I come across.

I'm in the process of changing my 86 Z28 305 TPI to carburetor and I'm hoping it will run way better.
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Emission stuff , smog pump and stuff
Be interesting to see what this runs in the 1/4 mile.

Hi Parker, can you explain what you do with the factory Harness? You can use the same harness for the Distributor?

So I am doing that conversion how would I go about the kickback for the trans
What did you do to turn on fuel pump and torque convertor lockup since you took out the ecm.
Car is a manual transmission car so no torque converter. Fuel pump is still using factory wiring.
What did u do for carb brackets and tv cable
Did you use the stock fuel pump and just put a good regulator with a return line ?
Yes sir, I used the factory return line and a Holley fuel pressure regulator (the kind that uses a return line).
Is it a normal intake
U gonna post any 0-60 or shifting it hard
What throttle cable bracket did you use?
I linked to it in the description. It’s a spectre part
Stock throttle cable ? And bracket ?
I used the stock cable, but used an aftermarket bracket
Does doing this make more power?
This only makes sense if your TBI has hard to repair issues or you have a modified engine. It should drive very similar to how a car with proper working TBI should drive otherwise.
Id suggest a 2104 intake plenum so you don't need to do that shim crap. Also at least a one in. Carb spacer
Yaddy 🔥🔥🔥
Is this the same $200 camaro? Where are wheels bro? 🤯
I’ve still got em, but I put these stock wheels on because the front tires were hitting the inner fender when turning
I have a decent tbi 305 92 convertible. But want cam and power. Building a 350 270h comp alum heads 650 avs carb so I will be changing over soon.
You gonna sell it? 👀
I could double your money 😆 lol
Yank the motor and put a 383 or a built 350 or the cheaper way put a cam in it
I’m trying to keep this project relatively simple lol but thanks for watching!
Nice but we have all the money in the world home boy
The fuel mileage just tanked.
