You simply can't go wrong with any cut from this extraordinary album.
17,000,000 plus copies sold.
Top three debut albums of all time IMO
I was in 7th grade when this album came out.
There’s a reason it’s one of the best selling albums of all time
FACTS!👊
That solo at the end of the song is considered by many to be one of the all-time greatest solos ever recorded
Really ? Don't think so.
@@bobhope3716 do you play guitar?
@@js6729 I do .
@@bobhope3716 for how long?
@@js6729 5 years. What's your point ?
This whole album is awesome.
One of the greatest of all time, not just debut, but all time.
It's the only album I ever heard that can double as a greatest hits album. They set the bar high for a first album. Like you said the whole album is great.
@@tommcclary8689totally agree I had the 8-track tape
Jay/Amber, you'll Love their "Foreplay/Long Time" !!!
edit-
Brad Delp is the only vocalist. Overdubbing and other production magic allows him to harmonize with himself. Great rock vocalist!!
The genius of Tom Scholz on guitar and majority of the songwriting!!
That is my favorite Boston song. Hands down.
They have to be saving that song lol no way they haven’t had more request for that song then some of these other Boston songs they’ve done. That’s one of their top two songs according to most fans so I know the request had to be out the ass.
@@timmypyron2830 might be patreon only
No, they won't love it. They'll wiggle in their chairs, play their elders for fools, ang get paid. 7:31 "the guitar and everything to me kinda saved it". They're not even good at keeping their scam a secret.
Been dying for them to do LONG TIME!! Wasn't this the song that put them on the map? I saw them in Atlanta . their long time tour.. might have been 85 or 86 can't remember .. but they ROCKED!!
That guitar solo is an absolute masterpiece! In just 2 albums Tom Sholz managed to create about half a dozen masterpieces. I’ll never get over the fact that this was his side gig. Much love ❤️
Have been waiting for this song and guitar solo for quite sometime now. Creepy how this song seems to be about suicide and that's what ended up happening.
Yup.
Tom is such an underrated guitar player.
@@scottromer8584 Really? Never heard that before.
@@dontworrybehappy8080 Such a shame, he had such a good voice. Also know as a really nice person.
Sometime between 11:00 pm on March 8 and 1:20 am on March 9, 2007, Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in his home on 55 Academy Avenue, in Atkinson, New Hampshire.[4] He left various notes scattered from his car to the interior of his home. The Atkinson police discovered his body on the floor of his master bathroom after his fiancée, Pamela Sullivan saw a dryer vent tube connected to the exhaust pipe of Delp's car. Two charcoal grills were found to have been placed in the bathtub and lit, causing the room to fill with smoke.[5] A suicide note was paperclipped to the neck of his T-shirt, which read the same as a character's note from Twin Peaks: "Mr. Brad Delp. 'J'ai une âme solitaire'. I am a lonely soul." Delp left four sealed envelopes in his office addressed to his children, his former wife Micki, his fiancée, and a couple who were not named by the media
FINALLY. Probably the best underrated song on the album
You said it! Too often we have to wait to hear this song in favor of the others on the album...and unfairly so in my opinion.
@@mkg59 facts. This song stands strong all on its own. Always been my favorite on the album
Every song on this album was regularly played on FM radio stations in the late 70s & 80s and even now, greatest debut album ever.
God this song brings me back to summer of 77. It almost makes me cry. The sun in the summer, my mom, I was 8 years old, my older brothers and sisters etc..this song brings all those old memories and emotions of youth. Miss you mom, miss you my brother Steve
77-79. Time Machine needed.
@@laurakali6522 You are so correct
I've been a fan of this record since 1976 when it was released. I was 6 about to be 7 and I had older brothers who listened to music and got me started..
I too lost my older brother in 1999. You have my sincere condolences
It is amazing how certain songs take you back to a specific time/place. Whenever I hear the Ozzy Osborne/Lita Ford song "Close My Eyes Forever" I am transported back to 1989, sitting on the dock behind the Greenwood Motel in Destin, FL fishing with my buddy Ken and hearing the music from the waterpark next door. We heard dozens of songs over the couple of nights we were there and that one song always takes me back.
Hands down, my favorite Boston tune. Righteous from the first note. Keeps me a teenager forever…
"Something About You" "Let Me Take Me Home Tonight" and "Party"--three Boston classics.
Let Me Take You Home Tonight is my favorte!
"Something About You", fantastic. "Got to got to have you!"
Love this song and the whole album. For years I only knew More Than a Feeling (because everybody's heard of that), and then heard this by accident earlier this year so went and bought the CD. People are right, this whole record is just a masterpiece. From front to back, you can put it on and just let it play and get lost in the music, not a single bad track on it.
The ultimate Boston is “Foreplay/Long Time”, I don’t think you’ve hit it yet and you’ll be glad you did!!
Copy that! Way overdue
That needs to be the next one.
@@michaelminch5490 For sure. Their Masterpiece.
Another banger from their debut album. On the best albums ever in my humble opinion.
Y'all finally got around to my very favorite Boston song. This Boston album is written into my musical DNA. It was released when I was four, I don't remember life without it, and "Hitch A Ride" has always been my favorite.
I'm 50 years old, a Bachelor of Arts in music, and a lifelong musician, and I say that the dual guitar solo at the end of this song is the single finest recorded moment in the history of the electric guitar. It is everything rock guitar is supposed to be, and it is sublime. I've heard it literally thousands of times, and it brings tears of pure joy to my eyes every single time.
This whole album is a Masterpiece!!!
As teenagers, we spent hours playing Foosball in my buddies basement, just listening to Boston over and over. Foosball was a big thing in the 70s, and we took it seriously. We played the game so much, everyone in our group was killer at Foosball. The games were extremely exciting and competitive, and the music just seemed to take the excitement to a whole new level.
That's so wholesome.
It's hard to say my favorite, but this is ONE of my favorite Boston songs. It's up there near the top. There will never be another band like Boston, imo.
facts
I've said it before, in the 70's Star Wars was like nothing we had ever seen before, and Boston was like nothing we had ever heard before.
The solo in the end OMG what your hearing is a guitar battle between Tom Sholz and Barry Goodrrow then them joining in together for an extraordinary duel lead. Boston and Queen and Styx are always so good at going back and fourth from the softest prettiest sound to the abrasive hard "kick you in the ass sound" with professional fluidness.
You are ready now for the pinnacle of their awesome first album. 'Foreplay/Long Time' Heart, Heart, Heart.
My favorite song on the first album. The last minute or so is pure gold.
Listening to this album will definitely put you in a place. One of my favorite things about Tom Scholz and his playing is that these solos that he does are actually a story within the story. They take you away from the song and then bring you back to it. This album is 46 years old and ranks near or at the top of the all time debut albums.
The ending solo is one of the BEST ever!!! Period! It’s in your soul and you don’t want it to leave!
I love the Boston sound! Another huge hit from 1976 is "Foreplay/Long Time" with its extensive intro! You will love its iconic sound. Have a great evening! 💖
So distinct. Once you hear that guitar you know its Boston. This is an amazing album. Hardly a skip over song on it!
I can't believe you hadn't done this song yet. I've seen many reactions to it and didn't realize yours wasn't one of them. This song is my favorite off of their incredible debut album. When the organ comes in hard in the middle solo, it hits you like a ton of bricks. And the outro is one of the best ever performed in my opinion. And when you add that to Brad Delp's amazing singing and harmonies, it makes this song pure heaven.
I was 6 years old in 1976 and was able to creep into my older sister's room and play this song on her turntable. I must have played "Hitch a Ride" 5 times before she caught me, but she wanted to listen to it as well, and we sat together with Boston for that song..just a sweet memory, and a very sweet song too.
Boston has been my all time group . Love them . Next Boston needs to be ForePlay/ Long Time Please do Cinderella's- Shelter Me.
SO GREAT to see younger people who appreciate REAL MUSIC WITHOUT COMPUTERS AND AUTOTUNE 💋💋💋
The Story of Boston’s creation is a great tale. Their sound is unique and part of how they came to be. I’ll give you the joy of discovering it for yourself!
My favorite Boston song. The dueling guitar solo outro is transcendent
This is masterpiece music that is pure bliss, beauty, joy and filled with memories as a young man and free. Boston is one of the top few rock bands ever. Their music always made you feel great!!!
You can’t go wrong with any of these songs on this album!! One of the greatest albums ever recorded!! 🤟🤟🤟🔥🔥🔥
Their harmonies and dueling lead guitars sets them apart from any rock band! Music from my glory days great memories!🤙🎸
You all should listen to this one again. Seriously.
I can almost guarantee you both that it will have an even bigger impact on you upon multiple listens.
The entire song leading into the outro guitar solo(s)
is a little "different", as Amber put it, but after you have heard the song a few times, the leading part works.
It sort of HAD to sound the way it does in order for the song as a whole to be the masterpiece that it is, and for the guitar solo to blow your mind the way it does.
I remember telling my family and friends about this song. Especially the guitar solo. They had to hear it!!
It wasn't played on the radio as often as "More Than A Feeling" or other songs on the album. There are many great guitar solos out there, but only a handful that take your breath away. This one, along with the one on The
Allman Brothers song "Blue Sky" [ which is also a "double" guitar solo ] , are in that select group. They have that rare aspect to them that makes it seem as though the guitars are singing to you -- like they are continuing on the lyrics of the song.
You guys got to just play the whole album in the car for your next long drive. Keep the windows open and take off! I’ve been doing this since I got my driver’s license! Bought the album to play at home, the cassette for the car, then the CD and then downloaded it - every incarnation. It has been called THE perfect album. I’ll have it played at my funeral and there better be record players on the other side because it ain’t heaven without this album! 😊❤
💚
Love what you said. Perfect comment. Have a super day 💚
@@333perfection thank you! Love seeing reactions like these to any of the songs off Boston. How lucky are we that we get to experience such incredible music!
That album is just chocked full of absolute classics. One of the finest..............
Smokin’ , Rock-N-Roll Band you cannot go wrong with this album this album is a banger from start to finish even with the mellow tunes.
Cannot go wrong with any song on this album. It's all musical ear candy. Read the back of the album. It's great how they wrote that no one in the band was known.
What a time in music history. Foreigner and Boston released their debut albums. Fleetwood Mac released Rumors.
I'm 52 and have listened to a lot of music in my life... I've seen them twice and would put them in my top 5 bands of all time. As far as the guitar solo, this is my favorite of all times. I can't tell you how many times I get in my truck and put this song on and wait for the two and half minute mark.......then Crank it Up!
I bought this album when it came out and probably played it more than any other in my limited teen collection at the time. Forty-five years after its release and Hitch A Ride still gives me absolute chills. Singer Brad Delp's overdubbed vocals are so seamless and Tom Scholz's overlapping guitars sound so clean but not sanitized, simply mesmerizing. My only regret with this song is that it is not a lot longer.
My favorite bands were Boston, Foreigner, Journey, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, R.E.O. Speedwagon, no ... Wait! I could go on and on all through the seventies! Anyway, absolutely love Boston. I listened to their album over and over!! I like all their songs, but Foreplay-Longtime is a must!!!⛄🎄❄️
Tom Scholz wrote a symphony. Much like Mozart or Beethoven. It is truly not appreciated how incredible of an accomplishment this album was. A MASTERPIECE in the truest sense.
So AGREE💚
He hit one out of the park with this album no doubt about it. I was in 7th grade when this album came out. That was a great year for musicians and Boston was right at the top.
This was from their 1976 album Boston. Epic records wanted them to come to LA to record their album, but Scholtz remained in Massachusetts and produced this unbelievable album on the east coast. It had several Number 1 songs and sold 17 records.
This song is great filled with melodic hooks, fabulous guitar works and amazing vocals. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Tom Scholz wrote/recorded most of his first Boston album in his basement. he was a Polaroid engineer at his day job at the time. (1974/75)
I love love this song... And the entire album, of course. And their second album (Don't Look Back).
I always took this as a song about deciding to leave this life for the last time. Beautiful song!
They played this at Brad Delp's funeral. Very touching.
The guitar solo is one of the greatest in rock in my opinion.
The sounds Boston created were ahead of their time. Now their songs are timeless.
Their masterful use of double leads really stand out on this song.
Love Boston! It was the 2nd concert I ever saw in the late 70's (First concert was E.L.O.) Enjoyed your reaction and really love the empathy t-shirt!
These guys could do it all…..Their first two albums went platinum and deserved it….especially the first one, which might be the best album overall ever.If you focus on the drums in this one,you will be amazed.
One of the most beautiful guitar solos ever, yet it's rarely mentioned. What a great debut album!
This was one of the REQUIRED albums every suburban kid had to have.
A very underrated song from one of the top five albums of all time
Can't believe it's been 46 yrs ago! This album came out when I was 15 and I was hooked. Every song a gem. One of the most iconic albums in rock history! To think it was mixed by Scholz in his basement? Unbelievable! RIP Brad.
I feel like I say this every time but it's true...the genius of Scholz and the voice of Delp, a perfect pairing. No band has ever mixed acoustic and electric as well as they did, imo...
One of the greatest debut albums of all times
This ranks right up there as one of the best guitar arrangements in the Classic Rock genre. The outro guitar solo always reminds me of Don Felder & Joe Walsh's dueling guitars on "Hotel California", except that one man is playing both parts on "Hitch a Ride". You can't go wrong on any track from this debut album.
This is my favorite Boston song. Brad Delp was such an amazing singer. Tremendous loss when he passed way too early. I just LOVE the dueling guitar solos at the end. And the middle section with the keys and guitar? Killer. Anything from this album is fantastic. Best debut album EVER. Please do Party or Smokin' next if you haven't already. Cheers guys.
They already did Smokin. Need to do Foreplay/Longtime.
That too!
Woo Hoo! More Boston! One of my all-time favorites! You need to check out their song "Let me take you home tonight." You'd love it. 🤘😃
1977...... My Senior Year in High School. Walk out of the house every morning with a cup of coffee in my hand and a book bag over the shoulder. Climb into my old car, a 1966 Chrysler Newport, with an 8 Track Tape Player and 4 Coaxial Speakers. Crank her up, and shove this Tape into the tape deck and head for school, stopping to pick up my girlfriend along the way. You could play this tape/album from beginning to end and never find a song you didn't like. In my next car, had it on cassette tape. Then CD. I still have it on my Phone and bluetooth it to my truck player and play it occasionally on the way to and from work. I have literally listened to this album for 47 years.
This album blew everyone away when it came out. There hadn't been a sound like this before and people loved it.
Boston was the first band I ever saw in concert back in the fall of 1978. Back then, hitchhiking was still a thing (I even did it myself a couple of times) so I always thought of hitchhiking when I heard this song.
I've listened to that song every day for about 2 years. It has many different meanings to me. But I may not be here long now so it has an even deeper meaning. I'm so glad you guys reacted to it
A great song from my teenage years love it😊 just take that ride !!
Boston, Rush, Styx, Pink Floyd,THIN LIZZY!
The music of my generation’s older brothers and sisters.
We were the little brothers and sisters who sneak into our siblings bedroom and listened to this while they were out.

@@muddhammer7834I like all those bands, I have an older brother and (two older sisters that have passed) . I was born in 1962 . I can remember me and my brother would see who could play their music the loudest one on each side of the house, my parents would be yelling turn that sh t down😂😂😂 ,he always won he had a better stereo than I did , 🙋🏻♀️
When I was in elementary school my dad had this CD. We would listen to this song almost every morning. 🔥🔥
Y'all will love their song FOREPLAY/ LONG TIME. Incredible song by BOSTON.
Boston is one of the rare groups that never released a poor product...such artistry in every song. It is why after all these years, any time is a good time to listen to Boston!
Being born and raised in Boston this is my favorite all time band. Every time I hear that end solo by Tom Schultz it just blows my mind. If that doesn't give you goose bumps nothing else will
Hands-down my very favorite Boston song. It’s masterfully crafted (actually was originally titled San Fransisco Day with different lyrics in the chorus - Rick Beato has a video of the original demos for this album). The guitar solos - MAN - before there was ProTools, there were pros. One of the best guitar solos in classic rock music. ✌🏻🙏🏼
Songs from this album never get old.
This is my favorite song on this extraordinary album. Not a weak song on it.
Just playing through some of your reactions to Boston. Love these songs, and your reactions to hearing them for the first time brings me joy. Us boomers used to buy the albums (vinyl) and play it/them all the way through every time. We learned all the songs on every one. With Boston, especially their first album, darn near every song seems like it was released on the radio. It's good to hear it again through your ears.
I got this album when it came out. Every song on it is good.
The most insane part about this song, and the whole first album, is that Tom Sholz recorded every instrument track himself - like every instrument you hear on this is Tom Sholz playing in his cramped basement studio with amps, pedals, synthesizers, and recording equipment that he built himself. I'm pretty sure he still at a full-time job at Polaroid at that point too. Blows my mind, incredible feat of musical talent. I'm so lucky to have seen them live before Brad Delp passed too
This was his debut album, incredible. Tom Sholz , is a mad genius. Many good suggestions. Thank you.
Jay.....one vety important part of a band is their versatility.. a great example of that besides Boston is ToTo. You'll get a hard rock tune like hold the line, and then a softer song like Africa.... you'll even get some jazz in Georgy porgy.
It keeps your fans interested and you gain more layers as a musician
All right my babies.... This debut album from Boston... Is a masterpiece in its own right ‼️🔥💯🔥🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
When I was a kid my cousin lived next door to the drummer for Boston and we used to hear them practice. Smartest band ever(couple of the band members went to MIT)
Like most tracks on the first Boston album, this is mostly a Tom Scholz solo project. Brad Delp sang all of the vocal lines, Sib Hashian played the drums, and Scholz played everything else, all guitars, organ, bass etc.
Scholz played all the keyboards, although he did play guitar and keyboard on every song and bass guitar on several, he didn't play ALL the guitars and bass on the album. Foreplay/Longtime and Let Me Take You Home Tonight (which was written by Brad Delp) used the full band, with Scholz and Barry Goudreau on lead guitars Brad Delp on vocals, Franny Sheehan on bass and Sib Hashian on drums. Brad Delp also played acoustic guitar on 'Let Me Take You Home Tonight". Those songs were about 12 1/2 minutes, which is a third of the album. Of course Brad Delp did all the vocal tracks and Sib Hashian did the drums tracks on all the songs except Rock and Roll Band, which used Jim Masdea's drum track.
@@ptournas That's why I said "most" tracks.
@@gotham61 Sorry, you are right. That didn't stick in my mind when I got to the part that said "and Scholz played everything else, all guitars, organ, bass etc."
One of the best premiere rock albums in history. It is shame they did not have too much after that!
Went to see BOSTON about 4 years ago , fantastic show !! Got that one off my list .
my first concert in 1978 ....they sound just as awesome live
This album was done by two guys in a basement recording studio. Tom Scholz played all the instruments and Brad Delp did all the vocals. Later they hired other band members to play bass, drums and other guitars when they had to preform.
You two make me smile 3 times a day. Even Rock Lobster.
@Rob Squad Reactions
Just FYI ...... This album is the *ONLY* album in existence from which every song gets played every day somewhere in the world.
Fun fact, "Hitch a ride" was the song on the very first demo record Boston made 1971
That's interesting. I know Foreplay was the first song he wrote in 1969, probably after he answered the ad to join Barry Goudreau and Jim Masdea's band "Freehold". It was either late '69 or '70 when he asked Barry if he could play guitar in the band. He didn't play very well, but Barry agreed and helped him develop his guitar skills. It was either '70 or '71 Barry brought Tom to see Brad (who Barry knew) perform. That was after the band changed it's name to "Mother's Milk" and then they began creating the demos.
True Beauty in a song! You will find that this is one of those songs, that over time will grow on you more and more. Be sure to revisit it every once in a while though. It seems to touch the soul:)
Could possibly be one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded! Such a good feeling!!
You have to understand the impact this album had on my musical life. I bought this album with my first earnings from my paper route. I was more of a pop song person before that album and a rocker ever since.
Excellent Album
The guitar solo, and the playing behind it, is a creative masterpiece of it's own.
One of my very favorite guitar solos of any song
It’s still the 2nd all time selling debut album of all time for a reason. It’s one of the great albums we’re every song on it is great
Agreed 💚😊
My first album! I was 11 yrs. old. LoL 😂
I love this entire album. Such great songs, & the band is amazing!!
favorite! Choice for a first album!
This song is so chill... I almost get mad when it gets loud. And then I realize that I'm listening to one of the best solos ever.. and my mind doesn't know what to do with itself
When these guys came out I was in high school! This album is their debut album! Fantastic 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Tom Scholz, the guy who played the instruments and composed, is an MiT trained electronics engineer and musical prodigy. He is a certified genius. He is responsible for most of the Boston sound. He literally built the key effects and other equipment from scratch, all custom.
He is also an arsehat, but...well...that goes with this territory. :-)
Greatest debut album ever and this song has now become my favorite on this album!
