ROCK AND ROLL BAND should be your next song, from their first album, which is one of the top three opener albums of all time, any genre. The entire album is a masterpiece. This is the song they open their concerts with, so it rocks. Others from their first album you still haven’t done: SOMETHING ABOUT YOU LET ME TAKE YOU HOME TONIGHT

Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Rock and Roll Band", "Something About You" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight"!!! (then you'll have completed the greatest debut lp ever!)
Being from Boston myself, I can attest to how beloved this band is and how intrigral they were to the local music scene! I've seen them live more than any other band. Some other bangers you need to check out that are even MORE rocking are "Something about you" and "Let me take you home tonight." To name just a few! 🤘😃
I'm also from Boston and got to know Brad Delp when seeing him many times with his Beatles tribute band " Beatlejuice". In fact saw last show before he tragically took his own life. Tom Scholz being a control freak drove the original band apart and put Brad in an awkward position. I've watched this band live playing this song in 1987 and it blows my mind. I can't imagine Boston without Brad Delt. Losing this guy is a blow for Boston. The guy has lungs.
A Man I'll Never Be always reminds me of Deacon Blues by Steely Dan (and verse-visa 😃). Both are longer and slightly different then what you normally hear from them and not always liked as much as their other songs by some fans of the groups. But both are among my personal favorites. A Man I'll Never Be needs to be heard more.
I saw these guys in 87 on this tour (Third Stage). They came out and started with Just Another Band Out of Boston, then Foreplay/Longtime. They played 5 more hits after that, then announced "Ladies and Gentlemen, Third Stage". They played the whole album front to back in order. Then played 5 more songs. We were there for over 3 hours and every song was perfect, I've seen some great live acts like U2, Queensryche, and Iron Maiden, but these guys to this day were literally the best live act I've ever seen.
This album was six years in the making because Sholtz wanted nothing less than perfection. And he got it. By far my favorite of their releases and part of a KILLER year of music releases, 1986. Start from track 1 (Amanda) and keep going from there. In your words, bangers from cover to cover. Track 3, The Launch, is a three movement song consisting of Countdown, Ignition and Third Stage. This one is worth listening to because every sound effect you hear was made by instruments, not adding sounds. Cheers.
@@MetalMcfly writing and production for the time (‘76), I 100% agree. Completely unlike anything else out there at the time which allows it to stand the rest of time. But, for me, I think the time lapse between albums (plus, I didn’t really care for Don’t Look Back…it was good, but near as good as Boston) and the whole experimentation thing sold me. Graduated high school in '82. Boston was always in the cassette deck of my pickup going to school in the morning. My stereo and speakers cost more than my truck, and I had it cranked all the time. I was 21 when "Third Stage" was released. Great times back then.
Boston's first two albums were made in the 70s, the second album wasn't really done, but the record company was screaming for it. The third album was ready, and it came out in 1986. No amplifiers for the guitars. Tom Sholtz designed and built something called a Rockman. Listening to the album you can hear a sound like violins, but it's a guitar through the Rockman.
this song NEEDS to be listen with the previous track on the album first (it's called "Launch") as a build-up for this rocking one, just like they did with "Foreplay/Long Time" earlier. also (from this album, which every song is amazing) you have to listen to "We're Ready", "To Be a Man", "Can'tcha Say (You Believe in Me)/Still in Love", and my favorite Boston Song of them all "Amanda"
Love your reactions. I'm 58 and your videos always bring me through the soundtrack of my life. Rock and Roll Band is an amazing Boston song and can't wait til you review it someday. Also, I grew up in Danvers, MA and Brad Delp lived down the street from me when he was in his 20's. I saw him out front one day and ran to my house to get my brother's Boston album for him to sign. He was the such a nice guy.
I agree with one of the earlier comments that your next Boston song should be “Rock and Roll Band”. It’s how they opened their shows and it got the crowd pumped and ready for an amazing night of rock. The drum fills are incredible and it’s the type of song that you can crank it to 10 and sing along. As always guys, still loving your reactions and cheers from West Texas.🇺🇸🇨🇱🤘🏻😎
This was my favorite song from Third Stage! It is probably my favorite Boston song, and that is really saying something. Thanks for doing this video reaction.
Honesty y’all have only just scratched the surface on these guys!!! Try A Man I’ll Never Be, Hollyann next! Also this is my favorite Boston album awesome from beginning to end…
Something About You, Rock&Rool Band, Let Me Take You Home Tonight are all from their first album and ready for you guys. Every song on that first album is great.
Me and my brother would pump this tune on the way to work when we were teenagers back in the 90s… he passed in2021 so this song always reminds me of him ❤
We're Ready, The Launch, and Cool the engines should be listened together. Kinda like Foreplay/longtime. The drummer on this song is Amazing! He never gets enough credit!
I Had Their Boston, Third Stage On Cassette Tape, For My Walkman Back In 1986, And I Played It So Much, That I Wore It Out, And I Had To Purchase Another Cassette Tape To Keep Rocking Out To Them . . . Amanda Was My Favorite, Because I Was Dating A Cutie Called Amanda Then, Who Wasn't A Boston Rock Band Fan, But She Liked Her Name Mentioned In Their Love Song . . . . lol . . . :-)
I love this album so much. Listened to it over and over when I was 18, and the songs still whisk me back to that time in my life. Brad's voice is up there with Steve Perry.
Boston would sell out arenas, when I saw them when I was young, man the place was crazy, Brad Delp hit those notes with ease…and this band is STILL NOT IN THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME…thats just CRAZY!
First time I heard this song, They flew out to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), in the middle of the Indian ocean (1986). And played it live for us in the hanger bay. It was a great concert, that also had Simple Red and Pablo Cruise members accompanying them. they were rocking it with a pair of F-14s behind them.
After your very positive reaction to "Cool The Engines" I went back and compared your reaction to, "Smokin". Both were great reactions to two very good songs from Boston.
On the album there's a short instrumental track that immediately transitions into this song, called "The Launch". In it Tom Scholz uses guitar and organ to musically simulate the launch of a rocket ship (complete with the sound of distant thunder, accomplished by blowing across his guitar strings). You haven't reacted to Boston's most rocking song, "Walk On Medley", which has become the centerpiece of their concerts.
Y’all spoke of the Rockin, but how cool is it that they hit hard for 3/4 of the song, and then on the last stanza they mellow it out just a bit, and “Cool the Engines” down. The deep Ed’s and thought that goes in to crafting a song like that is AMAZING!
Investigate why it took so long for Boston to come out with the third album (Third Stage). It's the same reason John Fogerty didn't record for over a decade. At some level, it's also the theme of Rush's Spirit of Radio and Elvis Costello's Radio Radio (which, for singing it on SNL, got him kicked off of Saturday Night Live for twenty years). These are true artists who create the goods while others 'own' their works.
I went to the Boston : Third Stage concert back in 1987. It was at The McNichols Arena. After they were done with their set then Farrenheit played after them.
Anything off their first three albums (the self-titled debut, "Don't Look Back," and "Third Stage") are worth checking out. R.I.P. Brad Delp, my all-time favorite singer. Also worth checking out RTZ (another group led by Brad Delp) and also featuring Barry Goudreau, as well as Orion the Hunter which featured Barry Goudreau and Brad Delp was involved as well!
Fun fact: this was the only album Boston put out in the 1980s. Work had begun circa 1980 but because of a lengthy legal battle with the band’s record label (and also because bandleader/guitarist/songwriter Tom Scholz is something of a perfectionist), it didn’t come out until 1986. Their next album, Walk On, wouldn’t come out until 1994.
I missed the first two tours but I made it to the THIRD STAGE tour in the mid 1980s. Saw them play at Daly City just south of San Francisco at a venue called the "Cow Palace" (same place i saw Fleetwood Mac and ZZ Top). Great show!
A lot of great songs on this album. One of them is like getting on a train that you cannot get off of, called "Can'tcha say (You believe in me)/Still in Love".
Boston was my 1st concert at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando back in the 70's with The Doobie Brothers, Poco, and AC/DC was the opening band. LOL Too bad I only remember the opening act.
This is one of my favorite Boston songs. It’s best when listened to with The Launch, which is an instrumental intro to Cool The Engines , that blow you away. Just be careful with your volume. It starts out so quiet you can barely hear it, before it takes your head off.
As someone else mentioned below, you (and every other fan of Boston out there) should also check out songs from the band RTZ (Return To Zero), which included original Boston members Brad Delp (on vocals) and Barry Goudreau (guitars). It was released in 1991 about 5 years after The Third Stage and includes some really great songs such as All You've Got and Until Your Love Comes Back Around. These could have easily fit in on any Boston album. I really think you will like them a lot! Keep up the great work kids, it's always a pleasure watching you two react to these great old songs!
One of the great things from this concert was the rising of the pipes for the organ during the "Launch." My choice for the rockin' song from Boston is "Party."
Ever heard the phrase 'Jumping the Shark'? Applies to the entire 3rd album from Boston. Reluctantly made by the band, did it only to satisfy record label.

Whether it's 1976, 1978, 1986, or today, Boston rocks.
Are you gonna give j dog j dog some credit😊
