  • Hi everyone, I am returning to my channel after a stroke. I am recovering and looking forward to continue the many lessons geared toward beginning guitarist.
This lesson involves a combination of the semi chromatic scale and the Mixolydian scale
(Fifth position of a major scale)
The Mixolydian scale is a major-type scale that has a dominant, bluesy sound. It is the fifth mode of the major scale and differs from the major scale by having a lowered seventh degree. The Mixolydian scale follows this pattern of whole (W) and half (H) steps: W-W-H-W-W-H-W.
For example, the G Mixolydian scale includes the notes:
    G (root)
    A (whole step)
    B (whole step)
    C (half step)
    D (whole step)
    E (whole step)
    F (half step)
    G (octave)
The key feature of the Mixolydian scale is its flat seventh degree (F in the G Mixolydian scale), which gives it a distinct sound compared to the major scale. This scale is commonly used in rock, blues, jazz, and funk music, often to create dominant seventh chords or a laid-back, bluesy feel.
On the guitar, the Mixolydian scale can be played by starting on any note (the root) and following the interval pattern. It's a versatile scale for improvisation and songwriting, particularly in genres that emphasize groove and rhythm.
