The governor has been trying to get more housing built for years, and he’s being fought by local governments and residents tooth and nail. Everybody wants housing somewhere else, just not in their area because it will “change the character” of their neighborhoods. He tried cooperating with local cities for years and he has had to escalate to punitive measures for not meeting their housing quotas.

Whether or not a person was trying to get something built and what they faced or not as well as both sides of the issue of solving it is another topic but of the same subject.
@acslater017 we don't need ghettos built. Housing is largely unaffordable for many, even those with Housing. It makes up too much of household incomes. Housing shouldn't gut people's income. We need investors and businesses out of the home market. They have ruined the Housing market. I saw a report on Housing during the industrial revolution. At prices then even accounting for inflation the prices then for houses would be less than 50k today. Imagine that I'm into dystopian futures, we are heading there faster than you think. Don't kick your fellow man when he down, be compassionate like you are for Ukraine ✌️
People are being forced out of their apartments due to increasingly higher rents winding up living on the streets. This will just continue forever with perhaps millions of homeless people in America. Yet we send billions to Ukraine to fight an un-winnable war.
Politicians being in bed with venture capitalists has been a disaster for virtually every industry and has come at the expense of the average person. Competent public transportation would be infinitely superior to the radical individualized transportation where everyone creates their own emissions, and vehicle deaths are rampant. SUV owners are basically in an arms race with other drivers, and both parties seem to be aware of that; SUV sales have skyrocketed, and their manufacturing has increased. Ask yourself, when's the last time you saw a hatchback? A station wagon? Competent weapon regulation might decrease the number of weapon deaths, but the NRA lobbied hard to pretend that the 2nd amendment was always about personal ownership and not about organized civil militias, and gun deaths make for gun sales. Following every tragedy there is a surge in gun sales... Surely no motive there. Finally, competent city structuring and efficient use of space with vertical buildings could reduce property costs by putting more living arrangements in less space, but creating another deed to sell on increasingly scarce land is just too lucrative to pass up. If longevity and accessibility were priority in this country, this would not be the story of today. If you'd like to learn more about how this outcome for housing was a certainty, and you'd like to know about how politicians KNEW that, read about US zoning laws. There's a reason so much of rural America is a stretch of identical houses for an extreme distance. Regulations in the country stomped out the potential for vertical housing early on, in favor of these big 2 story properties. From there, the profit motive and outcome was a sure thing. That's how we got the '08 recession. Houses everywhere, their creation- a result of financial speculation. Lucrative properties in a world where nearly no one can afford them. I don't know how the US can ever see reform from all of these things without starting over entirely. It's all broken from the foundation.
Here's what happens with a rent cap: the small landlords will decide its not worth it, and sell out to the corporate landlords who have their management more streamlined. And by "streamlined", I mean they won't fix a thing. When your A/c breaks of your water tank starts leaking...good luck. How would I know? Because I'm doing it right now. I have properties in escrow, some on the market, and some soon to be. I am cashing out. The decision was easy, because the state reduced it to simple math.
@jesseseale2558 Imagine you had a Business, you are selling a Product, now imagine the Government puts a Price Cap on the Product you are selling, are you going to continue to do that Business? Imagine if it is getting more and more expensive for you to build that Product, but you can't raise prices to cover the cost difference, you are stuck at selling the Product at the same price, no matter how expensive it is for you to manufacture that Product, will you continue to do that Business? Most probably not. Because eventually, you will stop making a Profit on the Product, and you will start going into Losses, and be out of Business soon. And once you are out of Business, you and all the People you employed are now out of a Job. That's what happens when Government puts a Price Cap on any Product or Service, the Businesses eventually go bankrupt or shut down their Business because their Profits keep going down and down. Price Caps don't work in the Real World because the Landlords, the Business Owners, etc., have expenses as well, they have to pay for maintenance, manufacturing, taxes, stuff like that in order to keep selling their Product or Service, and inflation also impacts their expense.
Step 1 Build hospital facilities that are properly designed to shelter and rehabilitate the homeless and create a separate division of law enforcement with really good pay, benefits and training to deal with the homeless in a human and responsible but assertive way) Step 2 create separate tier facilities based on the severity of their issues. Those with the most severe issues are required to be there until they have improved and have been properly rehabilitated (they must still be treated in a humane way). Once they are out they are provided shelter and job opportunities maybe in contract jobs that help the states / countries infrastructure. Step 3 Ensure they are seeing specialist regularly to check up on them. Step 4 Make housing and basic goods affordable. Stop trying to patch things by sending them to other places. Things will only get worst, this nation has a severe mental health crisis and this is a byproduct of that. We need to rehabilitate people. currently the state has been procrastinating and it’s true, where is all the money for this being funneled ?
Universal basic income for each and every one of them $24k a year. Be human. Also start 3d printing homes and tiny homes. Then, work with social programs to help them heal. Newsom should work to create safe camping sites with basic sanitation. The term Hooverville was used pejoratively in the past but it might be an idea worth revisiting. Set them up outside of town and run a few busses if needed. Lots of land still available if you leave the city centers.
Is it so prohibitively expensive to provide some camping grounds for these people to have a small plot of land and some access to fresh water and bathrooms? Why are we trying to pretend that sending cops to tear their homes apart and upend their lives again is a good idea?
If there’s nowhere for them to go then they shouldn’t be able to just dismantle the encampments! They BETTER have housing AVAILABLE and ready for each and every last one of the ppl they remove.
The unspoken reality is we have a drug addiction problem, hence people aren't able to sustain themselves and end up homeless on the streets. The statistic of people out there that are actually going through financial hardship is substantialy lower than the other. There needs to be a measure in place to differ from the two, this way it can be distinguished who needs to be put in for assistance, and who needs to be imprisoned or mandatory rehab. Loitering on the streets needs to be illegal, public safety has degraded.

Governor Gavin desantis. Signing laws targeting the homeless..it doesn't get any lower than that. Jailing someone because they are unable to afford a place to live due hyperinflation caused by lawmakers.
Liberal minded people used to care about the environment. Now lawlessness and pollution prevail in the name of not wanting to upset homeless advocates. I went to go swim in the SF bay yesterday where families used to play & picnic. There were broken down RVs and piles of garbage, trash in the water, oil & sewage in the gutter, and tons of presumably stolen bikes. No families enjoying the public beach anymore. Why can't we make a safe space for those who refuse shelters to camp? The Oakland Coliseum has a huge parking lot where we could install portable showers, phones, sanitation, trash collection, security, lighting, legal service & mental health. Make it safe for urban homeless, protect the environment & return the parks & beaches for all to enjoy.
@vladtong true but...u know unfortunately many folks in CA just don't vote and never educate or inform themselves about what is going on. They believe officials are doing their job
JFC HUD needs to get in there. This is a Federal issue. Anyone over 65 that doesn't have housing should get free housing no questions asked. If we can build and supply and fund 800 foreign military bases we can make apartments for seniors and vets.

@@DesertbikerAZ that's old fashioned thinking sadly. This new breed of "asylum seekers" already know, before they even come here, that they will get a free ticket for at least 6 months.
Crime going up people are going to get desperate
Right, lets not address the reason there are encampments
Homelessness is rising fast, housing is unaffordable to many
Do you think because you see one aspect of an issue in a given news story, it means that that’s all there is? The governor has been trying to get more housing built for years, and he’s being fought by local governments and residents tooth and nail. Everybody wants housing somewhere else, just not in their area because it will “change the character” of their neighborhoods. He tried cooperating with local cities for years and he has had to escalate to punitive measures for not meeting their housing quotas.
@@acslater017Technically the original comment in which you replied reffered to why it happened, what caused it, what led to it, inclination.
Imagine that
I'm into dystopian futures, we are heading there faster than you think.
It's all broken from the foundation.
make them a city in the desert, so much empty space out there.
Good vision man!
Slab City.
How about putting an state executive order on a permanent rent cap for Cali
It's more than rent it's also having ridiculously high standards for credit scores.
@jesseseale2558
Imagine you had a Business, you are selling a Product, now imagine the Government puts a Price Cap on the Product you are selling, are you going to continue to do that Business?
Rent control will not work in the way you expect
Rent cap would just make apartments stop being built. Making even more homeless
Step 1 Build hospital facilities that are properly designed to shelter and rehabilitate the homeless and create a separate division of law enforcement with really good pay, benefits and training to deal with the homeless in a human and responsible but assertive way)
Step 2 create separate tier facilities based on the severity of their issues.
Taxpayers and businesses are rejoicing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEY CAN MOVE IN WITH YOU RIGHT?
They closed long ago
are they? the encampments will be back within a few days when the cameras are gone but the media will tell you its better
Not really
Homeless will be back as soon as the election is over with a vengeance
Universal basic income for each and every one of them $24k a year. Be human. Also start 3d printing homes and tiny homes. Then, work with social programs to help them heal. It's like kicking them out of an airplane without a parachute right into a war zone. Pete Seeger would be VERY upset about this. These are America's refugees.
Civil Liberty should house the homeless instead of spending the money in courts.
I hope they are not going to FEMA camps
Did the Chinese give advanced notice that they plan on taking a statewide tour?
66.5 billion for illegals before citizens with another 100,000,000 in the works . Fight for your families fight for your country fight for your housing food water. Fight fight fight
He should clean the streets himself 😂😂😂
He won't because he's afraid to break a nail and spoil his manicure.
Newsom should work to create safe camping sites with basic sanitation. The term Hooverville was used pejoratively in the past but it might be an idea worth revisiting. Set them up outside of town and run a few busses if needed. Lots of land still available if you leave the city centers.
It's a shame they didn't use the allocated 30+billion dollars to build them shelters. Instead, they wasted it... SOMEWHERE!
Wasted it or pocketed it themselves 🤥
It was used to diversify their portfolios and give themselves pay increases.
They did wasted, it all in their pockets.
Where are the homeless going to go?
This isn’t going to solve the problem just like that.
They going to Oregon and Washington
How about into treatment. There is still plenty of housing for them. They just don’t want to stop drugs to move in and stay there .
Bus them to Texas!
@@theotheleo6830bs Texas wouldn't allow it..Built affordable housing for these people
Is it so prohibitively expensive to provide some camping grounds for these people to have a small plot of land and some access to fresh water and bathrooms? Why are we trying to pretend that sending cops to tear their homes apart and upend their lives again is a good idea?
If there’s nowhere for them to go then they shouldn’t be able to just dismantle the encampments! They BETTER have housing AVAILABLE and ready for each and every last one of the ppl they remove.
California, where you become homeless and it's illegal to be homeless
The unspoken reality is we have a drug addiction problem, hence people aren't able to sustain themselves and end up homeless on the streets. The statistic of people out there that are actually going through financial hardship is substantialy lower than the other. There needs to be a measure in place to differ from the two, this way it can be distinguished who needs to be put in for assistance, and who needs to be imprisoned or mandatory rehab. Loitering on the streets needs to be illegal, public safety has degraded.
Build them housing..give them jobs...give them dignity.
He couldn't get this done in San Francisco . How does he expect any other city to be ordered to do it by him. Get rid of him .
Convenient timing isn't it? 🙄
Homeless coming to a neighborhood near you.
Times up homeless people. It’s time to get back to work and pay rent like the rest of us.
Oh now it’s important! We all can see your hair gel shine for what it is.
Says the man who WAS local government, and did nothing to help the problem. He can't push the problems onto others fast enough. It is all he does.
26billion to “solve” homelessness… where is that money?
Great report OMAR!!!
We should RECALL Mayor Karen Bass if she REFUSES to follow the Supreme Court and Gavin Newsom's edict to clear all homeless camps in Los Angeles, no?
She's the one that put porta potty and hand wash stations at every encampment. I highly doubt she's got the balls to follow thru.
A lot of encampments near me have been cleaned up since she was elected, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Haven’t seen a lot of news coverage on it but I’ve witnessed it with my own eyes.
He's been promising to "help" the homeless since 2008 & now he's just going to "sweep them under the rug" so thing "look" better, but are much worse. I ain't voting for this bum again.
Where the f*** are they going to live
NOT THERE
Take them to Your house ..😂
Homeless were gathered up in one spot and they are going to spread up.
WITH YOUI!
Drug free encampments that we the tax payer already pay for.
So where are they gonna go?!
There is housing available for them if they want to
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!!!
hahahaha Greasy Gavin Gruesome built Soylent Green factories with the tax money
Move em to NEWSOMS place!
There's a reason that all of a sudden Newsom is doing this. Can you guess the reason???
Gavin they have no place to go and now you have taken that away with 23 billion not accounted for what's going on buddy?
Malignant narcissists aren’t anyone’s “buddy.”
@SpliffMcInerny-rv5my ok pal sarcasm must be your first language have a good day guy until we chat again my friend.
So destroying the final posessions of the poor accomplishes what?
Get the pepper spray ready! Evictions coming
All we need is more $600k per unit apartments for the homeless and the problem is solved.
Absolute idiots the officials in CA
@vladtong true but...u know unfortunately many folks in CA just don't vote and never educate or inform themselves about what is going on. They believe officials are doing their job
They need affordable like NYC has ....pay 30 percent of your income ...and built 144k units ....that's why NYC don't hace much homeless
THANK GOD
JFC HUD needs to get in there. This is a Federal issue. Anyone over 65 that doesn't have housing should get free housing no questions asked. If we can build and supply and fund 800 foreign military bases we can make apartments for seniors and vets.
Sounds like he is trying to score some points with somebody. Imagine this guy on the Presidential ticket someday. Please keep him CA, the rest of the Country doesnt want this man.
He’s full of it, I don’t trust it
You know what this tells me???? He could have done this a long time ago!!!!!! I have had enuf with compassion. My compassion is out the door esp when they are leaving nasty trash everywhere, rats everywhere, tents and drugs and crazy young people who should be working or in school...not hanging out getting high.
This is disgusting as I understand not wanting all those homeless encampments all over the place bringing down property value.........
But how about using some money to actually house these people..........
Let’s GO!! Let’s make California great again!!!
And where would he like them to go? At least in LA, all the beds are taken in shelters
Let's take Newson House 😊😊
