Great to know! I’m doing a video comparing that black series to the EFX one in my comparison series! Let’s see how it holds up.

Great review. I have the Black Series but have been considering getting the DN version but was struggling with it being worth the upgrade. Your detailed analysis solidified that I will stick with what I have. I really appreciate the measurements you provided because you are right, it is an optical illusion, I would have assumed the DN version was slightly larger in most measurements. Thanks again.

Thanks! Yea unless you really want the exactly look, it just seems like it’s expensive for what it is. Maybe at $300 it would be more tempting

I don't have the Hasbro Luke, but I do have the Wedge, and there are no stickers on it. There are at least two kinds of deco applications---paint and I think silkscreened ink. You can feel a very subtle edge, but that happens with paint, too.
FWIW the props used a lot of stickers and graphic line tape : the rebel symbol, the circle with the lines through it, the "victory" symbol dots and the circle thing with the lines going out the back (not a symbol used on Luke) were all stickers. Not on the oxygen mask attachment point square things, though! I've seen other comparisons of both helmets to real APH helmets and the Hasbro was found to have closer dimensions. (Since the props were vacuformed over a real helmet, they would naturally come out a little bigger.)
    Thanks for the comparison!

I bought this one, the stone trooper and Darth Vader for my son as he likes us dressing up and sword fighting. I also have the black series Yoda black series Vader, & the black series Kylo REN (that’s cool because of the different look on this one) plus I have a few of the other ones from Amazon that are good but they’re not replicas of anything. I will post a video up with my little collection or I should save my collection shortly.

Denuo Novo needs to up its game, at that price I expect custom paint (no stickers) and fibreglass shell.

Hasbro is re releasing this helmet in Apr 24. After seeing the stock pics on Entertainment Earth I was going to pass on it but after watching your detailed video I changed my mind. I really enjoy all your videos. Keep up the hard work.

Hi there ! What a news is this !! Are you sure Hasbro is going to re release the Red 5 helmet ? I'm going crazy trying to find one, but prices are really high, and anyway almost impossible to get one.

Comparing the BS to my EFX helmet, the front opening width is 6" for the BS vs 7" for EFX. Also the EFX is 5/8" deeper and at least 3/8 taller. The BS is noticeably smaller and the dimensions prove that out.

The following is strictly my opinion. I thought the matte finish on the Black Series helmet made it look too much like a toy. I actually sprayed mine with a semi-gloss finish, then added matte-finish dirt and grime to the "dirty" areas. Having a shiny finish on the "clean" areas makes it look better TO ME. It may not be screen-accurate, but it looks better to me. Do whatever makes you happy with your purchase, and don't let anyone make you upset because they may not agree with you. MTFBWY

Starting December 2020, Disney sells a Black Series "look alike" electronic X-Wing pilot helmet at their U.S. theme parks in Galaxy's Edge. Very close to but not the same as the Black Series.

The sides were decales on the original ‘Hero’ helmets but the other markings were all hand painted.

  • @Luv2tickt

Those "red" areas on each side of the helmets where you said you grabbed them to put it on, those are actually where the oxygen mask would have connected. Generally they were just a "stainless" if you will . Some of the US APH-6B Pilot helmets did have those areas painted, so I guess depending on what the modelers did when they got their hands on them, where you cracked the stickers, it does give that a bit more of a weathered look. But DN should have painted then weathered those...it simply would have looked much better.

    • @HyperdriveStarWars
      @HyperdriveStarWars  Год назад +1

I do agree that where they are cracked, it kind of just blends in with all the other weathering. Thanks for the history on the helmet.

I was surprised and a bit concerned at how soft the plastic is on DN. My Black Series is much more solid but also heavier. The real question I have is... are these helmets the same size as the hero helmets used in the films or are they smaller?

  • @gabesstarwarscollection

I just got the EFX boba helmet and it's also quite a bit more bendy compared to the Black Series Mando helmet I have. Hasbro seems to be using some strong material. But for Boba I'm very picky so I wanted the replica. This replica however... I feel that since it doesn't have metalic parts and is using stickers it's not as good a deal as it should be when compared to Black Series.

I really do like the EFX Fett Helmet over the BS. I used to own both, now I only have the EFX. The BS wasn't bad though. The outer paint on the EFX was just nicer and that is what we all see at the end of the day.

i think the one used in 1977 was stinkers on it. cause andrew ainsworth did put stickers on the tie pilot helmet so maybe on the x wing props too. easier after they have been vacumformed

Awesome review! Though the Denuo Novo looks really nice that price point does not make sense if they used stickers. Myself I would go with the black series helmet since it is really for show and or cosplay. But if you collect movie accurate props then maybe the Denuo Novo is your choice. Thanks for the informative video!

  • @thomasraven

While I appreciate you showing them side by side, you need to realize that these two helmets have completely different objectives. The DN helmet is an attempt to replicate the screen used prop in every way, including materials, construction, and deco. The Hasbro helmet is an attempt to make a lookalike but with the durability and ease of manufacturing of a toy. The DN is closer to the real deal in every way INCLUDING THE DECALS and everything else you list as disappointing in some way. If you're going to judge prop replicas, do so with some knowledge of the props they're copied from.
