Fascinating - thanks for this Stephen! ... I liked, "Girls would toss pennies at the window of Elvis's front bedroom." ... Innocent times.

It was sad when it caught on fire. It's too bad they couldn't have restored the inside of the house back to it's original structure. I wish they could have had it where fan's could take tours of the Audubon house, but I imagine the neighborhood probably wouldn't like that. I remember hearing the story about the neighbors complaining when Elvis and his parent's lived there. That's why they moved to Graceland. Thank you for sharing all of this information. Very interesting. If I was a millionaire.....I would have loved to have bought it. ❤️👍

Sorry to read Mike has passed away. We visited Graceland from Northern Ireland in 2004 and met Mike somehow and he took us down to the house and give us a tour. So glad I got to see it then

I heard a story about this house back in the 50's, that neighbors complained that Gladys was hanging her laundry on a clothes line outside. In answer to their comments, Elvis had stated, "She could do what she wanted, since the house was probably the only one on the street that was mortgage free".

Yeah, neighbors complained about her hanging laundry outside as well as the chickens, he sent them home shopping, they found Graceland, He loved the privacy, large area of land so Gladys could do whatever in the hell SHE wanted to do.

Such a shame that it caught fire and destroyed all that history. One could make a claim that this house was as important as Graceland is in Elvis' legacy and would have been an amazing place to tour as a fan.
