Hi Robert. Just so you know, the information you provide to the community at large, and photography / videography in general is invaluable. For that, a big round of 👏🏼👏🏼 to you all the way from England, UK. Perviously, I used to shoot portrait sessions with speedlites. Of course you know that means ganging up 3 or 4 sometimes. Until I discovered the AD200. I’ve got two now. And I’ve got the DB2. And I discovered the AD200 Roundhead, which is awesome. And just yesterday, I got my AK-R1. Awesome. For the barebulb that came with the AD200, I made sure I got the 5 inch reflector. At full power, with that reflector only, I metered f/22. Awesome. Just one note about the AK-R1. In the past, I bought the gel kit for Expoimaging Rogue Grid Flash Gel Kit for 3-in-1 Grid System. 6 colour correction. 14 colour effects. Good news. I tried them on the Roundhead. Guess what? They mount directly onto the head (they don’t fit inside the magnetic ring). You just need to put one of the magnetic heads on top. Awesome all the way.
Good update Robert - kit ordered. Yes, it would be interesting to see you experimenting with the barn doors. Hope you get the time to do a video on it. Thanks.
I have both versions of the kit and I actually like the smaller dome on the original kit. At least until you showed how yours came apart. The case is tough to get everything back into, especially the reflector. Everything else fits in there logically. Haven't used the snoot at all, but the barn-doors work great. Can't wait for the round head speedlites to come out!!
This is how to use the two clear inserts with the filter holder on the Godox AK-R1. 1. Hold the empty filter holder ring with the side you load from facing you. Put in one of the two clear inserts and turn it to counterclockwise. 2. Drop in any gel or thin filter/diffusion material cut in a circle to fit (about 62mm). 3. Drop in the second clear insert and twist the inserts and filter clockwise. This will hold everything in place. There is a third filter retainer slot in the ring, so you can another of the Godox supplied plastic inserts, or stack up to three of the Godox supplied inserts with gels in between.
I have 3 Evolv 200s and they're absolutely the best in opinion. I just did 114 headshots in 4 hours and they didn't miss a beat and the batteries were still fully charged. AMAZING light! Talk about a knock off of MagMod. Wow. I can't believe there isn't a threat of litigation for design infringement, especially on the snoot.
Nice intro to this handy kit, Robert! As I only have softboxes, the barndoors with gels, I'm debating on whether I need the requisite Round Head, since I shoot mainly in the softbox for my product photography, and rarely use flash for landscape work. However, I am impressed with the build quality of all Godox products, along with their ingenuity in creating useful accessories for the photographer!
Thanks Mr Hall - love my Ad200’s great go-to lights when traveling or outside and need ore than a speedlight. Just ordered a couple of these kits.. Compact and handy....
Yup. It seems it has to be (top to bottom) Left: barn doors, grid, gel holder, WA diffuser, bounce mount Right: dome and sphere With the bounce card laid across the top of both and the extra gel inserts up top.
I have for my work on the University campus where we are mostly inside. I'll do the same for weddings, but I'll also keep the AD400 Pro around in case I need more output.
I bought this kit couple weeks ago and like it a lot. *Anyone know why it includes 2 clear filters?* Is it to just hold a different colored gel not included on here?
How about placing the metal protective tube through the rubber snoot to create that narrow beam look? Widening the metal tube to your liking? Just a thought...good job as always!
I have 3 AD200's and love them. As far as heads and modifiers go, I'm sticking with the bare bulb and parabolic reflectors for soft lighnting. When accents are needed the original rectangular fesnels are fine. Magmod is more expensive, but the way I'd go if I had to be ultra compact...
Hi Robert, little off topic, any idea when the profoto soft box adapter for the AD200 becomes available?? as per one of your review Video, Thank you in advance
I'm not sure. I would have thought that given it was working back at Photokina and there's no electronics that it would have released quickly but I've not seen it available.
Recently came across your channel at the perfect time - after buying some Flashpoint gear. Been finding them really helpful, so thank you! Do you have any videos demoing the different modifiers in this kit besides the dome?
Hi Robert, I recently bought two ad200's from adorama to use with my a7 III and flashpoint xpro Sony trigger. However, I found a serious problem with this setup and couldn't find any answers searching on the internet. I hope you can help me out. The problem is my off camera flash photos are totally under exposed with any HHS Shutter speed, anything above 1/250. Everything works great under 1/250, but when I bump it to 1/500, and all the other settings stay the same, all the photos are at least 3 stops under exposed. I am shooting in M mode, trigger on camera, HHS turned on on both trigger and flash, camera in fill-flssh mode, electric shutter turned off. What is wrong here? I know a lot of Sony a7 III shooters use godox ad200, but this issue is not widely reported. Is this a compatibility issue or I am doing something incorrectly here? Would really appreciate your help. Tony
HSS in general you lose a ton of power out of any flash. I can not remember why this is but it is a thing. As soon as you cross into HSS land there is a huge drop. If you bump just shutter speed and change nothing else this could be your issue too. Exposure is a triangle that all sides need to be equal. If you move one thing something else needs to move to compensate so adding some ISO could be the answer. Adding a light adds another dimension to this and is something to consider. If you did nothing to add more power to balance shutter speed this is probably the issue. I shoot A9 and A7riii and use the AD200 as my main travel lights. If anything I find them to be too powerful on their lowest setting and wish they could go lower. Otherwise these things are nearly perfect.
you answered my doubt. I was wondering if the dome and the bounce card can be used together. i'm doing macro but is not getting enough light for my subjects so i think i need the bouncer but with diffused light
Hi Rob. Thanks for the video. I have this kit. I bought it a few weeks ago and it's exactly like your prototype. The dome has that black ring and the bounce card is not tilt-able. However it came in the case. It seems they have different packages. Mine is Godox branded though. So there is no evolv brand on the case.
Hi, thank you for your vídeo! Have you ever tried the Bound Card? Is it any good to bounce the light forward? I ask because it looks so small... TIA In a week's time I'm going to shoot my first event and I was thinking to get one...
Haha.. Robert , they didn't hear to you regarding the snoot.... :) let's hope they will get u sometime soon :) how about the gels Robert?.. I mean did they increase no. Of colors?

Hi Robert! I just received my h200r head, and after some 25-30 pictures it stopped working! I waited, turned off everything, disconnected, and still it will only shine a little light from it. Did you experienced that with your head? I can't believe that this overheats so easy, and in my case it didn't came back anymore. I'm shocked.
I wish I hit play on this vid a minute sooner. 1:21 Just as you said to take a pic before removing everything from the case I pulled everything in an excited hurry and now.... no way it’s going back in this tiny undersized case. Makes no sense.
When I am diffusing the AD200 through a softbox, I dont need the H200R, right? I can just use the supplied bare bulb When I am not using a softbox and shooting an event, do I need the H200R or would I be fine with just the AD200 with the MagBounce or MagSphere? I know its better like quality, but if Im diffusing it in such a way, is it necessary? -- I am asking because I want to buy the kit and not sure if I should get it with the H200R or if the version for the AD200 would be suffice
Hey Robert, love the channel and watch every vid. I recently purchased my first AD200, And was looking to get the round head. Have a question I was wondering if you could answer Because I haven’t seen a video or a review online that was able to answer it. Godox makes the S-R1 adapter to use the the AK-R1 kit on speed lights. I compared my TT685 with the fresnel head on my AD200. They are seemingly identical in size, But do you know if this would fit for sure if I wanted to postpone buying the round head for now? I understand that because this is a merely an adapter to the fresnel head and not the actual round head that the light output might be different but in theory it sounds like a viable option. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!!
@@unregisteredcoward didn't Godox come out with a round speedlight adapter to be used with these AKR1 products. For the price Magmod now appears way too expensive.

Do you know if the round head is stronger than the standard flash
it's the weakest light output out of all 3 heads because it's the most heavily diffused.
Robert Hall Photography what’s the benefit of a round head. The profoto A1 has more power. I use flashpoint lights need a stronger on camera option.
Any idea if the AK R1 kit will fit on the Profoto A1?

What about the transparent gels, when to use them? 😅
I honestly have no idea what the purpose of those are. Maybe to sandwich another gel sheet in that isn't godox?
