Wembley version is fantastic. BUT Tampere is from another universe. Floor is the godess and valkyrie there 😁. And yes Floor has bis own channel. She did covers during Corona and released her first solo song "Fire" a few days ago 😊. You also need to check out her bands before NW. After Forever and ReVamp. Jumping right into the deep end of the Nightwish pool. This was the third of Tuomas’ magnum opuses. This one written for Floor. The first, written for Tarja, was Ghost Love Score. The second, written for Anette (or recorded by her anyway), The Poet and the Pendulum, is his most emotional piece, and one you might want to wait a bit to watch, after you understand more of the band history and background of the song. Not that you wouldn’t appreciate it’s genius now, but it is incredibly powerful when you fully understand it. This, the third, is kind of the history of the earth, and an homage to mankind’s brief time here. Love this Wembley version with Richard Dawkins in person. Check out the amazing Tampere version too. Amazing! WE WERE HERE!

The song was inspired by books written by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, who does the spoken parts and ,yep, he is the one on stage at the end with the Darwin quote.
It's about the formation of the solar system and the evolution of life.
Later, go watch the version from Tampere. It's outside with fireworks and Troy's part starts with the Irish Low whistle as opposed to the guitar with EBOW here.
Lucy refers to the partial skeleton found in Africa, the oldest human ancestor remains ever found.
LUCA is the Last Universal Common Ancestor, the last life form from which all current life descends.
There was also a part on the evolution of music, including a piece by J.S.Bach, the riff from Meatallica's Enter Sandman, and EDM, among other pieces.
Tuomas is actually the tallest at 6'2" to her 6'0", but she is wearing heels.
The length of video doesn't matter as long as the quality is there. And with Nightwish, the quality is ALWAYS there.

    • @ML_SE
      @ML_SE 2 года назад +9

Lucy was the oldest but in 1994 one even older prehuman was found in Ethiopia called Ardi who dates back to 4.4 million years ago. Lucy is the most famous one of the two probably because it was a big deal when she was found.

You're right and it's a really interesting topic. The rabbit hole I've fallen into is the time human split from Bonobos and chimpanzees and when we split from the Macaca mulatta (the rhesus macaque). We have so much in common with the rhesus macaque and our last common ancestor lived about 25 million years ago and about 20 million later we had our last common ancestor with the Bonobos and the chimpanzees and I think the 20 million gap is very interesting.

@@jaskau2462 Majority of the people in Finland do speak Finnish as mother tongue. About 3-5% of the people use Swedish as mother tongue. But pretty much everybody born since 1970 knows English very well but the pronunciation is weird because only written English was actually taught in the schools for a long time. As a result, many people pronounce English using Finnish pronounciation for the same written text. This is nowadays known as "rallienglanti" (Rally driver English).
Officially Finland has three official languages: Finnish, Swedish and Sami. And Swedish has this special status of being required for all government positions for historical reasons. In practice, you have to pass special examination in Swedish to apply to any government position.
In practice, English is often jokingly called "kolmas kotimainen" (literally meaning 3rd national language) because it's so well understood here. Most people know English better than Swedish even though English is not an official language here.

I can not remember who said this before but it's so true about Floor. You know the saying you have the crowd in the palm on your hand well the problem with is if you tilt your hand the crowd falls off. Floor put the crowd in the palm of her hand then she clenches her fist and holds on to the crowd through the whole preference. Glad you love Floor but she is married to the Drummer of the Band Sabaton. Would be cool if you checked out that Band. They are great live performers as well. Not as good as Nightwish but a good band that most of there songs are about History of Wars and Battles that took place in the history of the world.

This is my favorite band and this is seriously one of the most beautiful songs in the genre. At 23 minutes long I still find the time to listen frequently to it all the way through. It's so beautifully profound and really makes you reflect on the nature of the world around us and our place in it. I never thought I'd ever get that feeling out of metal but here we are.

Thanks for your shout-out, and I'm sorry some of my initial messages aren't visible. My recommendation for you is to watch professional live recordings mainly. A good start is the Wacken 2013 concert, for which I recommend the YT Nightwish Arena playlist ruclips.net/p/PLexzLA11Cst1G4E0D61rAnWvnDF4zIz8M
In this channel you will find many remastered concerts of the band.
Of course Floor have her own YT channel :) you'll find a lot of surprises there.
    See you around 🤘

I honestly think my favorite part of this song is the last spoken word section over the orchestra. As a lover of classical music and film score, that composition is so, so powerful, and it just lefts my soul to a state of pure euphoria. It’s triumphant, majestic, and just all around awe inspiring, and the Dawkins quote over top of it is so inspiring and just makes you want to be the best you that you can be. Brilliant.

Another great reaction. Don't worry about the length of the video, Nightwish fans will be with you until the end, even if you react to a whole concert. The Nightwish army will be there with you, your reactions help us relive what it was like the first time we saw these concerts or videos. I believe your thoughts about Floor are on the money as well, she is a beautiful woman but when she sings there are no words strong enough to describe her. Follow Gabriel's list and you can't go wrong.

"Have Nightwish ever been brought on to do a movie soundtrack?"
Kinda... the music video for I Wish I Had An Angel was directed by the notorious German director Uwe Boll because he used that song in one of his movies, I don't remember which one. Tuomas also masterminded a movie called Imaginaerum, which the album of the same name was built around... or vice versa, not entirely sure which. Look it up!

Nightwish have made a movie called Imaginaerum, while the previous singer Anette was still on board.

    At last!
Thank you, I was eagerly waiting for your reaction to GSoE !
As far as I know, they've only made ONE song for a movie, the song is WHILE YOUR LIPS ARE STILL RED, it's a beautiful ballade, and the main theme from the 2007 Finish drama Lieksa! (The Matriarch in English).
Then there's THEIR movie IMAGINAERUM, a very Burton-like 2012 fantasy drama musical, written mostly by Tuomas. The versions of the songs in the film are sometimes rather different than the one in the album of the same name. You'll have to get the Imaginaerum The Score, album to get them.

Lucy is supposedly our earliest human ancestor. Lucy means - southern ape from afar and Afar is a region of Ethiopia.

Edit : earliest “hominid” ancestor to be specific

You mix up several things; Our "last universal common ancestor" is LUCA,
and lived some 4 BILLION tears ago, and was a small worm-like creature.
Lucy of the Afar is a small hominid of unknown sex, not proven to be of
direct ancestry to Homo Sapiens, and is only a few million years old ..

@@patverum9051 yes LUCA is the last universal common ancestor as in possibly a single cell organism. I wrote “Supposedly” as in some people ( a lot of scientist actually until the recent find)theorise the fossils could be our oldest known human ancestor.I wasn’t mixing anything up. He was asking what Lucy was referring to and I told him without giving him a lesson in
      paleoanthropology. Hopefully I didn’t misspell anything 😂

And, once you are ready for more, there are several other amazing Symphonic Metal bands to check out as well, including Epica, Within Temptation, Kamelot (male lead vocalist) and more. I look forward to following you down the the rabbit hole that will be your Journey of Nightwish & Symphonic Metal Discovery. :chuckles: You reactions speak for us all I think, mate :)
Oh and one of the best complimentary things about Floor that I have ever heard is that someone, one of the 'professional' reactors (as in they know what they are talking about technically), said she was the female Freddy Mercury. Aye :nods:.
As for this song in particular, that ending, with the crowd sung "We were here!", breaks me down. Because we are capable of so much and we are likely going to be defeated by our own pettiness and political combativeness. But the tears are also in memory of my wife that I lost to cancer and every time I hear this I change the words in my mind to "You were here!", for she was one of those rare truly wonderful people and the world is lesser without her in it.
