Long intro is to give time for the universe to form and our planet to spin into existence. That is the one, the Uilleann pipes. You heard it correctly. At the beginning of the last section Tuomas plays the melody to Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" and at the end of the section you hear 2 riffs from Metallica "Enter Sandman". This is Tuomas' way of paying tribute to the evolution of music from calssical to metal. Yes the final song. A song about 4.6 billion years of evolution. The Greatest Show on Earth is "Life"! Wonderful job my man! as usual! Peace and be well.

I love that Tuomas gives a lightspeed history of western music right in the middle. Everyone that I've watched react to this catches the Metallica riff, a few catch the two Bach quotes, but no one so far has noticed that the first musical quote is the Gregorian chant Dies Irae, one of the most influential and quoted melodies in all of western classical music. In the space of a few moments, Tuomas bridges hundreds of years of musical greatness. I love how his mind works!

I also think it's because it's less easy to catch it during a live performance as the instrumentals get drowned out by audience noise and stuff.
To add, the whole sequence begins with tribal chanting then to Gregorian chanting from Dies Irae, to Bach, to Metallica then to the bassline (EDM-ish sounding beat) of Wish I Had An Angel.

The title refers to the evolution of life and the brief moment humans have to shine, and a plea to use it well. The spoken voice it not Marco, it is the great evolutionary biologist and pro-rationality author Richard Dawkins. Like many symphonic metal bands, Nightwish are committed to the idea that human lives would be better ruled by reason instead of superstition.

So you're a mythic literalist you're exactly why all theists get bundled together. At the end of the day that's what the stories about our gods are myths to be interpeted as metafores not reality. If you can't see that evolution could be a product of the gods what's the point? You really think your god created a perfect world from scratch? I think the gods created the beginnings of a world and that nature and evolution did the rest.

      which ist just that.
a mythological book, a collection of books , randomly put together by a pope how he saw fit.
A mythos same like the edda and many many other myths of the creation of earth and life, each culture and religion has their own.
Why christians always thinking that they are something special?
      You are not.
Just one religion and path of many other.
      Science is science.
Religion has a completely different approach.
      Nothing wrong with that.

There's women that go higher, that go lower, that have more grit, are even more angelic, more versed in opera or rap or vocal slides. I've got a big question in my mind about this part, from the first time I heard this song.
Maybe someone from Finland could help me.
Before the Enter Sandman's riff, there is the Tuomas part which is From Bach "Toccata and Fugue in D minor".
The fact is, when I was young there was a cartoon which explains the history of humanity, from the very beginning (from the big bang to now).
The opening of this cartoon was the "Toccata and Fugue in D minor", but it was a french cartoon, I don't know if it was played in other countries, and if Tuomas used it as a tribute, or if it's just a coincidence, as the song is the story of the world.
I'm gonna ask this in other "Greatest show on earth" reactions, because it's really something I want to know.

Yeah, that song holds so many little secrets you don't get at first, and its meaning is the best thing about it, I think.
There's still many incredible surprises to come in shorter songs though, so don't ever worry about that with this band. ;)

Don't you see? They just show us a summary of everything since the bigbang. First fireworks was it, then life start on earth. So the greatest show is everything hapend, from the beginning to now. Very poetic and artistic observation from Nightwish. Indeed they are the best ;)

Great reaction PF ! I really think you nailed it by saying " Not only was this the Greatest Show on Earth, but possibly they
are the Greatest Band on Earth ! ". Most certainly Yes ! I would say that personally, i would put them up level with the likes
of possibly Queen, certainly different style, but the same extreme talent, passion & instrumentation ...

    Hey,
You asked about the instrument Troy played at the end of the intro and it is a bagpipe, but they are called the Uillean Pipes and they are a typical Irish bagpipe, and you don’t have to blow in the bag to create a sound, but you can play the pipes with your elbow, that’s why they are called the Uillean Pipes (it was traditionally a word in celtic).
And yes, The Greatest Show on Earth is also one of my favourites and I still have to cry every time at the “We Were Here” part.

You need to listen this song one more time and pay close attention to lyrics and screen in background.
Song is split in several parts.
    Creation of Solar system.
First life form that we all are originated from.( LUCA-last universal common ancestor )
Life leaving ocean and thriving on the land.
    And then humans came..
P.S. Now you will understand their new album Human/Nature much better.

You heard the "Enter Sandman" riff correctly :) But you missed two other musical references just a few seconds before: First, very quietly, you can hear J.S.Bach's Minuet in G major, immediately followed by his Toccata & Fugue. Then Metallica, and then back to Nightwish ;) Kind of a nod to the past in the form of depicting a tiny bit of evolution of music, within a composition revolving around evolution of life ;)

Between T&F and Metallica , Empu plays two riffs of "Rock around the clock" ! And after Metallica. Kai is doing some Tecno drumming. The evolution of music.

Really liked this reaction! I'm glad you watched the video to the end.Tuomas really is a genius.
I think i've already suggested this to you, but if you have extra 2 hours and would like to know more about the time when Floor joined the band, you could do a reaction to the document called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours". It's long but worth it.

I enjoyed the super intro, ha ha
Further more, one of the things I like about reaction videos, is to share my enjoyment of music and other content with others. And it's so wonderful when people like yourself so obviously enjoy the content you watch. Thank you for sharing the moment.
Of course when a reactor dislikes something I like, I can find joy in hearing another point of view, so yeah. It's probably more than that.

As a technician my ear is fairly well trained. I hope that others hear the subtle change in the mix of Marco and Floor's vocals. They begin with Floor too high and eventually blend much better. I presume a live engineer tweaked this. To those who know this is a small but important change.

Congrats with 10K subs! I love how Tuomas is such a nerd. I mean, who else writes songs about the origine of our planet and evolution? And another song about elves and another song about Cthulhu... And yep, that was Enter Sandman followed by a techno beat. Metal Mozart even included the evolution of music.

"I've got my eye protection....good choice....but you needed to keep them on! I hope I'm protected enough!....nope! You cannot defend against this! (proceeds to remove all protection as Tuomas lulls you into a false sense of safety :D. Yes it's fun knowing what's coming when you don't, but only because we wish we could have that first experience again and love to see others getting the whole thing!
Ah, when Floor hits those monotone vocals I keep expecting her eyes to glow and for her to lift slightly off the stage as she goes full goddess-mode. I just love it. Chills every time.
The transition to early humanity (the growls) into the heavy chug plus synth is just crazy, then the actual classical music blended into that synth (and yes, that is followed immediately by "Enter Sandman", that whole transition is the entire history of music in about 20 seconds - relisten, you can pick out all sorts of styles including electronic)
Then that impact of "we were here". It's super emotional, even if you don't entirely understand the lyrics. Once you do.... oh my
The ending is a well deserved finale and applause (with a hero backtrack to match). Everything about it screams epic. The production quality of the footage and sound mix just really seals the deal on making this a special ending to a special show. All of that to laud science and evolution.

Speaking of the “Floor Jansen Note” you really have to see and hear their Ghost Love Score performance from that concert. Holy frigging crap.
