Inspector gadget and Max Smart. Oh, yeah, Tennesee Tuxedo, too. To me, Don Adams, along with Rod Serling have the most distinctive voices in television. They are instantly recognizable by whole generations of tv fans.
Don Adams was a comedic genius. He was hilarious in "Get Smart". His legendary voice was great as Inspector Gadget and Tennessee Tuxedo. He played himself in an episode of "The New Scooby Doo" movies.
I recently started watching Get Smart for the first time and my assumption was I'd be squinting my ears the whole time to hear his Inspector Gadget voice. Nope. It's the same exact voice. XD
He also starred in ads for Aurora “Skittle” games such as “Skittle Bowling” and “Skittle Pool.” Aurora was actually more famous as a plastic model maker, competing with Revell, Monogram, AMT, and MPC, and that was as far as I could tell their attempt to branch out.
How about 80 seconds, like this one is? It is a very different type of commercial from what we have today. A truly excellent commercial from one of the best comedians of the time.
LOL! I remember this game! My cousin had this game and we played it a lot in the early 80's. But I remember a much shorter version of this commercial during afternoon and Saturday Morning Cartoons. Thanks for the memories!
Note that Don's good friend Joey Forman (who occasionally appeared as "Harry Hoo" on "GET SMART") plays "Archer". This commercial first appeared around 1975, 'Mesterius", around the time the "DON ADAMS SCREEN TEST" was produced for syndication.
Correct, he also did the voice for Inspector Gadget in the cartoon that came out in 1983. He also had a cameo voice appearance in the live action movie. Most of us know him as Agent 86 from "Get Smart".
Great post! And happy to know that the man with the hat was really Joey Forman - the Harry Hoo chinese detective, a 'old friend' of Maxwell Smart: Episodes The Little Black Book: Part 2 (1968) … Attorney/Agent 17 /// Hoo Done It (1966) Harry Hoo /// The Amazing Harry Hoo (1966) … Harry Hoo
Wow thanks for putting this up - we did not get to see this stuff in australia Great to see Harry Who also with him in the commercial.. Don ahas never failed once to bring a smile to my face...RIP...
Do a search on here for Don Adams commercials....man it's crazy just how many commercials he was in. Most of the time he was playing his Maxwell Smart character, of course. If you can find a search for a once-famous tv star that has more commercials featuring himself or herself on RUclips, I'd like to hear about it.
If I'm not mistaken, the other detective (his soon-to-be former partner) is the actor who played Harry Hoo in the original series and the Chief in the Nude Bomb just a year later.
THE INSPECTOR GADGET IS THE HIMSELF DON ADAMS IN FORM OF THE CARTOON , THE INSPECTOR GADGET IS THE DON ADAMS ,LOOK THE CHARACTERS THEM , HAIR , NOSE, CLOTHES ,HAT , THE INSPECTOR GADGET IS SIMILAR WITH THE DON ADAMS
luvindogadis411 - you ain't kidding! COMEDIC GENIUS is right! A LEGEND!!! IMHO "Get Smart" was the BEST show even to this day. They have crap out now. It was the ONLY show we watched (besides "Looney Tunes") as kids growing up in Queens, NY. 5:58 pm Feb. 6 2010
The difference in the two ads, where Joey Forman was an ally; Larry D Mann was a member of KAOS (Season 2, Episode 15--Kiss Of Death), where Max was going to get killed by a KAOS agent played by Geraldine Brooks.
Don Adams also did a commercial for an old pool table-type game with pinball bumpers on it called 'Bump-A-Lite" pool if I remember. That was sometime in the early 1970's if I remember right.
Hmm...interesting. I also remember as many of you do when Don Adams played Tennessee Tuxedo as well as Inspector Gadget. Not sure if I have this right but he may have also been the voice of Tom on Tom Of T.H.U.M.B. "T..H..UMB..Yaaaay TOM!" :-)
As I recall, either right before or right after the 1995 Get Smart revival, Don Adams had a cameo at the very end of a commercial where he only turned to the camera and spoke the end tag. I think it was a beer commercial, but that's all I remember. Does anyone else have any more info on what that commercial was or can post it? P.S. I got to visit his grave at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in 2007 and 2009. He's honored with a U.S. Marines plaque.
It's still at my dad's house. It was originally my brothers, I'm not sure whether it still works or not as it's been sitting in the box unused since the mid 80s.
Irony has nothing to do with it. "Get Smart" run on TV from 1965-1969. The Ideal toy "Electronic Detective" debued in 1979. This was just smart marketing - part of the same reasoning that helped get Don cast as the voice of Inspector Gadget.
Right and at the end he beats Fats and then he says: "It's a lot of fun" and when he smiles you see some teeth missing from where Fats beat him up. I think that's the one we're talking about, as I remember that one too. Great look back at at everything though!
Nope I was wrong. Don Adams to ads for Aurora toys. Specifically, the toys skittle pool and pendulum pool. Those ads had the same Get Smart feel to them.
How About THAT!?! - A game that actually WORKS YOUR MIND(?!?!!!)Deductive Reasoning - good for the brain - either use it - Or LOSE IT !! - NEED MORE GAMES LIKE THIS TODAY !!! ....Will Always LOVE Mr .Don Adams !!! This was when Don Adams and Bill Dana ran their own ad agency; they used their friends to make commercials for years, so they weren't slaves to guest bookings. Worked out pretty well, I'd say ...
Don Adams was the Voice of Inspector Gadget from 80s Cartoon show like Adam West Portrayed Batman/Bruce Wayne from 1960s tv series and Lee Majors Portrayed Steve Austin in the Six million dollar man from 1970s tv series with the spelling word Adam in it

Don Adams was a comedic genius. He was hilarious in "Get Smart". His legendary voice was great as Inspector Gadget and Tennessee Tuxedo. He played himself in an episode of "The New Scooby Doo" movies.
I will never be able to unhear this voice of this guy as anything else than Inspector Gadget. Amazing voice.
Tennessee Tuxedo for me.
I recently started watching Get Smart for the first time and my assumption was I'd be squinting my ears the whole time to hear his Inspector Gadget voice.
Nope. It's the same exact voice. XD
I hear him as Maxwell Smart
Ha ha ha: I actually designed the Electronic Detective for Ideal Toy back in 78-80!! I haven't seen this ad since then.
Thanks for the memories!
Steve
Cool
He also starred in ads for Aurora “Skittle” games such as “Skittle Bowling” and “Skittle Pool.” Aurora was actually more famous as a plastic model maker, competing with Revell, Monogram, AMT, and MPC, and that was as far as I could tell their attempt to branch out.
Get Smart was a brilliant show! Thanks to Don Adams and the brilliant writing of greats like Mel Brooks.
Mel Brooks and Buck Henry created the show, but Mel wrote only 3 episodes--all in the first season--including the pilot.
He was the voice of the cartoon Gadget. Also, he was the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo in the 1960s cartoon.
Ah the old being-replaced-by-an-electronic-detective trick!
I loved get smart when I was a little boy. He is part of my warm childhood memories. RIP
Rod Serling was also a Marine in the South Pacific. Gene Roddenberry flew around 86 combat missions--he was a pilot of a B-17
Funny commercial! Don Adams was so funny in these sorts of skits. I think he did several other commercials for Ideal toys.
THE AGENT 86 IS THE GUY
Yes he also did Skittle( I think that was the name) a mini pool table game!
❤️ get smart
Note that Don's good friend Joey Forman (who occasionally appeared as "Harry Hoo" on "GET SMART") plays "Archer". This commercial first appeared around 1975, 'Mesterius", around the time the "DON ADAMS SCREEN TEST" was produced for syndication.
I remember that commercial! Boy that brought back memories!!
Correct, he also did the voice for Inspector Gadget in the cartoon that came out in 1983. He also had a cameo voice appearance in the live action movie. Most of us know him as Agent 86 from "Get Smart".
the great maxwell smart aka inspector gadget i watch both shows every day in his honor! ;)
Don't worry, folks. As soon as he gets those implants, he put that Electronic Detective in its place. Wowzers!
I love that "of course" after getting lost in the rapid fire details of the '38 and '45. Agent Smart.
Missed it by THAT much!
Wow thanks for putting this up - we did not get to see this stuff in australia
Great to see Harry Who also with him in the commercial.. Don ahas never failed once to bring a smile to my face...RIP...
How can you disrespect his memory like that jrg? He was a great and hilarious man that will be missed by many people.
R.I.P Don thank you for the memories
I remembered don Adams when he voiced inspector gadget!
this is eltronic detective.
If I'm not mistaken, the other detective (his soon-to-be former partner) is the actor who played Harry Hoo in the original series and the Chief in the Nude Bomb just a year later.
I LOVE seeing him in that grey trenchcoat! So Inspector Gadget like!
Inspector Gadget is at it again :) . RIP Don Adams .
Tennessee Tuxedo too
@@jessyleppert2 SKITTLES GAME TOOO by MILTON BRADLEY
Cheif i must insist on the cone of silence
Very intresting clip! Long live Agent 86! Great stuff! Thank you. :)
The one I remember was Skittle-Pool, playing against a character named Fats (played by veteran character actor Larry D Mann).
It's nice to see an unanimated inspector gadget lol, meaning the actor who voiced him.
That thing sure is a crazy.... GADGET.
luvindogadis411 - you ain't kidding! 6 2010
"INSPECTOR GADGET"
Yes, Don Adams was the voice of Inspector Gadget.
Nick Wells He was indeed. A great one too.
And Tennessee Tuxedo
The difference in the two ads, where Joey Forman was an ally; Larry D Mann was a member of KAOS (Season 2, Episode 15--Kiss Of Death), where Max was going to get killed by a KAOS agent played by Geraldine Brooks.
This message will self destruct...xD
he was both!
Oh wow! I never knew there was a detective game! Too bad they don't make them anymore. Heh, Max always guessed the wrong suspect. XD
Mash, he DID voice Inspector Gadget.
THE DEATH VOICE ACTOR OF THE INSPECTOR GADGET FROM USA.DON ADAMS IN LOST TOY COMMERCIAL - RARE
wasnt he also voice for tennese tuxedo cartoon
Yes
Joey Foreman played the other detective in the commercial. Frequent collaborator with Don Adam’s. Take off on the Maltese Falcon.
Don Adams also did a commercial for an old pool table-type game with pinball bumpers on it called 'Bump-A-Lite" pool if I remember. That was sometime in the early 1970's if I remember right.
They should make strategy games like this, but better, today for the Consoles. Not everything needs to be shoot 'em or jump 'em.
Loved this game when I was young.
Yes, Don Adams was Gadget.
And so did Tennessee Tuxedo.
Actually, John Drainie, who appeared on Canadian TV and radio, was the voice of "Tom of T.H.U.M.B." .
1:10, Don Adams in His INSPECTOR GADGET Trenchcoat... Just Then, Dr. Claw Breaks the Glass
As I recall, either right before or right after the 1995 Get Smart revival, Don Adams had a cameo at the very end of a commercial where he only turned to the camera and spoke the end tag. ObiWanBillKenobi .....It was a Coor's Light commercial.....with comedian Ronnie Schell(Gomer Pyle-USMC and Good Morning World)......
YES....very good!!!
It's still at my dad's house. It was originally my brothers, I'm not sure whether it still works or not as it's been sitting in the box unused since the mid 80s.
The way I see it there are two possibilities...
I would've liked to have had this.
Irony has nothing to do with it. "Get Smart" run on TV from 1965-1969. The Ideal toy "Electronic Detective" debued in 1979. This was just smart marketing - part of the same reasoning that helped get Don cast as the voice of Inspector Gadget.
I NEED THIS
Then you best spend up to $800 for it, as it's exceptionally rare.
Amazing.
This is amazing! I actually designed the set for this commercial. Don Adams hit up on me too but I spurned his advances.
Looks like a fun game!
Right and at the end he beats Fats and then he says: "It's a lot of fun" and when he smiles you see some teeth missing from where Fats beat him up. I think that's the one we're talking about, as I remember that one too. Great look back at at everything though!
hey it Harry Hoo the great Hawaiian detective!!!
That's right!
Take that, Clue!
i dont recall that tv ad he did with selma diamond and i was only 13
Nope I was wrong. Don Adams to ads for Aurora toys. Specifically, the toys skittle pool and pendulum pool. Those ads had the same Get Smart feel to them.
Tennessee Tuxedo Will Not Fail!
I remember this toy!! I wanted it so bad, but never got it.
Grande Smart, Maxwell Smart.
Don Adams also did commercials for Aurora Games (Skittle Bowl).

Yup, the guy with the hat is the late Joey Forman who had played Harry Hoo on Get Smart. That leaves two possibilities: Two smokers and 4 non-smokers!
This was when Don Adams and Bill Dana ran their own ad agency; they used their friends to make commercials for years, so they weren't slaves to guest bookings.
Worked out pretty well, I'd say ...
Tennessee Tuxedo
@jettj12 He did the voice for Inspector Gadget on the cartoon.
Don Adams was the Voice of Inspector Gadget from 80s Cartoon show like Adam West Portrayed Batman/Bruce Wayne from 1960s tv series and Lee Majors Portrayed Steve Austin in the Six million dollar man from 1970s tv series with the spelling word Adam in it
He also did TV commercials for an electronics store and White Castle hamburgers
This is especially funny for those familiar with the Dashiel Hammet novel.
From what city is the accent of Don Adams?
agormanvideos.....He was a New York Native......
Never knew Don Adams did a toy commercial.
Who still has this game?
MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH! 😁
@hamletmiss: Early to mid-'70's, by the looks of it, or maybe mid to late '70's.
@Jsd8675 LOL really funny, I like it!
Holy s**t I remember that commercial. I'll bet the game is a high dollar collector item now
RIP you hard charging devil dog of the sea! Semper FI ~ lean green fighting machine
