My thoughts on the Google Pixel 8a vs. the Samsung Galaxy A55 and what a difference a year makes. Where I felt these two competed in years previous, I don't feel that way anymore. I think they are both going for rather different customers as the Pixel leans into a compact, fun design and the Galaxy A55 goes for a grown-up approach.

These phones are for VERY different people this year.
Customers: oh no the bezels on the A55 are too much!
Pixel 8a: hold my bezels!
And Gorilla Glass 3 🥴
LMAO!
The Pixel 8a's bezels make the A55's arguably pretty chunky bezels look small by comparison.
Hey Steve, love your content. The main frustration in the states is the lack of carriers selling the A55 since Samsung did not bring it to the states directly. You can buy them from Amazon, but it shows Latin America warranty support. They apparently want us to buy the S23FE which is a good phone, but if you are an A series fan is kind of a bummer.
A55 uk price is crazy 289.99£ compare to 499£ for pixel8a
That is a ridiculous difference, get the A55
Actually a few places have it cheaper 😂. I don't think I can justify 500 notes on a phone that's going to get replaced in 2 or a years
8a £350 or less with trade-in bonus
@@EHS4N_ well if you trade in your old phone you can get A50 for about 200 or less
I had the 7a and still have a Samsung A54 as a side phone. I preferred the 7a overall.
Benn using the 8a for a few days now and I love it. Absolutely love the size and the bezels don't bother me at all.
Why are they increasing the bezel size on their A devices?
To attract people who even notice differences to their big brother
Me personally I’d go with the 8a because I prefer stock android and I really am not a fan of the heavy OneUI skin on Samsung devices. While I do like the a55 and think it should’ve been sold in the US, i am more satisfied with using a Pixel or Motorola on android because of how clean the setup is. I’m also in the group that prefers the smaller design with the plastic back especially in that sharp aloe color.
Pixel is not stock Android. Even Android One is closer to stock.
Your content is so good ❤
Thanks!
I was _so_ tempted to upgrade from the 6a (which I love) to the 8a and was about to pre-order (great deal in the UK) but I tried one in store and, bezels aside, I found the corners looked like they were bulging out asymmetrically and it just looked weird. I imagine a case would emphasise that.
So, I am (although i don't like glass backs) holding out for a price drop on the 8!
Pixel 8 at Giffgaff £500
@@Camouflage3680 Yep. Thanks. I've seen that. I'm on GiffGaff. Very tempted 😉😉
Pixel 8 & 8a are practically the same darn thing so the argument people make to just get the 8 when it costs more is nonsense.
You want compact get a pixel 4a
I might come off as a hater but the pixels aren’t compelling to me.Outside of some ai neat software tricks and camera process the physical overall hardware is lacking compared to other Oems.
It's hard for me to ever buy budget phones from Google again. I've just been burnt by the performance too many times from previous gens, 4a, 6a, 7a
@@antimatter7629the 7a is probably the most love/hate phone I've ever had. It can take amazing slr style photos but it can also take ones worse than a 50 pound phone! Depends on the AI getting it right or horribly wrong. Performance can be s23 ultra level but it can also work like a 100 pound A12. I've never had to factory reset something so often after updating it. It's nicely compact. A55 meanwhile (it's replacement) is just a decent all rounder. The camera is just decent. Got lots of good photos in varied conditions. Nothing award winning unlike the pixels. But it also doesn't try and over process everything with no option to shut that off. Pixel to wow you, A55 for the long run. 8a might be better than 7a.
In this case, 8A is far superior to the A55 in performance.
@@antimatter7629liar 😂
@@jesmond5562 it's funny, because I'm not at all a liar, slow charge times, quick battery depletion, times where it wouldn't charge at all, overheating, and of course Internet disconnecting, why would I lie about this, if my Pixel experience was good I wouldn't be here
got the A55 for $429 AUD
I think that due to the current price of these different smartphones, the competitors of the Pixel 8a are more the S23 FE, Oneplus 12r/11, but above all, the Pixel 8.
The S23 FE is $600 on the Samsung site right now. I'll compare the two but that's a gap wider than the A55.
The Pixel 8 gap is even wider.
@StevealiciousTech The S23 FE is almost always on sale at $500, the same for the Oneplus 11 which is currently officially at $500.
@@rolins3279first of all its not on sale everywhere lol and a discount dont matter hes being fair using the actual rrp
I like both Google phones and Samsung
I have an s21 and pixel 8
I refuse however to purchase another Samsung until they stop with the boring designs
No way should a 300 dollar phone have the same design language as their flagships
or buy a phone for the functionality and just get a case
Why not ? Why shouldn't it? It only benefits the customer.
Lol yep, especially after Pixel updated its designed with Pixel 6 Samsung looks so boring now.
S23 fe is more on pair with Picel 8a
Samsung's midrangers still suck in animations and optimization
i tried many mid range samsung A phones and a few pixel "A" phones as well to me personally I think the stock android and the more option, better camera more compact phone and kind like iphone but it's a android phone yeah to me personally I love Pixel.
Gorilla Glass 3 😂🥴
