I'm surprised nobody mentions how plastic offers better drop protection than glass. I would like to see a comparison between the Pixel 6a and 7a in terms of modem speeds. Speed tests on both for 5G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi.

Hi Mike, great video (as always). I chose Samsung mainly because of its global availability. I don't understand why the Pixel is so limited in availability. I think it's sold in a maximum of 20 countries... and where I live, importing a Pixel is a complete madness. You end up paying the price of an S23 or iPhone 14 for a $499 device. See you next time, cheers!

First, I bought a Pixel 7a to replace my Pixel 6 because it was supposed to have a better cell reception, and fingerprint scanner. Plus, face recognition to boot! Well, I paid $450 for it, and I personally didn't see that improvement, and the face recognition fairly often said, not enough light. So, I started checking out the A54, and found one on Amazon during Prime Day for $328 with a written free return. I jumped on it, and was very surprised, in a good way. It's not as speedy, but it is very fluid and enjoyable to use. Geekbench 6 results were 23% slower in single thread, and only 13% slower in multi-threading, but in real world feedback I don't feel it at all. It unlocks on command every time, has a brighter screen that is very aesthetic and just offers a reliable feel every single time I use it. Overall, it's a joy to use, and I do not miss the Pixel's extra horsepower at all.

I like the Pixel phone, but I had to buy the A54 because there is no warranty for Pixel in Sri Lanka, and the signal coverage in our country is really bad. Pixels have signal issues, so if I bought a Pixel, I might end up with a phone that can't even make a phone call. Nowadays, 1 USD equals 320 Sri Lankan rupees, so I would have to pay 320 times the dollar amount. If there is no warranty, I would end up losing a lot of money. The Pixel is a great phone that offers premium features, a great software experience, and a better camera.

Why does everybody hate the macro lenses? I had to buy a set of lenses to use macro, and macro is the only one that's worth using.
The fisheye is useless because there's so much distortion. The wide angle is fine, but it's not worth carrying an extra lens; I only use the one built into my new phone once in a while for to get all of something in a picture from close quarters. Landscapes get lost in it.
The macro, I can use to read microscopic text on packaging, get super close to bugs to better identify, get some really nice and soft ambient photos for my desktop background, etc. There's so many uses.

On budget and midrange phones macro lenses are just a way to make it seem like it has more cameras. Usually they are terrible quality and useless, the ultra wide lenses often take much better quality macro shots (that's what's done on flagships) no wonder they only put them on cheap phones and put telephotos (which are way more useful) on the more expensive phones

I have a a54 I am returning when my 7a arrives, I have spent many hours reviewing both phones, the a54 pros imo is mainly its expandable storage and 5 years of updates, the storage is great for anyone that has limited data, you can turn it into a multimedia beast, when it comes to the actually guts it can not compare to the 7a, faster processor, 2 more gb of ram "for some reason the a54 in the US only has 6gb ram", clean unbloated OS, also it helps now that you get a pair of google buds and a case for free from google. It is when you benchmark both phones you start to see the real difference.

Don't forget that the a54's battery is leaps and bounds superior to the Pixel 7. Pixel 7 battery life is borderline unacceptable. Even with the adaptive settings, it's shockingly poor. No doubt it will be much worse after 6 to 12 months of use. Then you have the poor fingerprint reader and average screen. The only compromise is some speed and camera which are all marginal. The a54 makes a much superior all-round package of a phone. Better screen, better battery, more premium build and ip68.

Its not supported in many countries, you will lose a ton of features like VoWIFI, VoLTE, 5G, etc. Not to mention, not supported country means no repairability. I'm only scraping the bottom there are ton more features disabled when you're in a country that does not support a pixel. Ton of reviewers forget about this. Good review, except... Samsung has not got better longevity as there is no point in 4 years of updates, if you have Exynos 1380. Tensor G2 is a lot better (yes it overheats if you push it, but it will still outperform Samsung, plus you are not always pushing it and 2x "cortex X1" cores do a marvelous job in real life, about which no one seems to talk about. It's on par with Snapdragon 8 gen 2 from a users perspective except of gaming of course.) So in terms of speed and performance Pixel 7a is a flagship, while a54 is a mid ranger. It will also deliver higher fps with it's 90hz display than Samsung in real life.

I would be interested in seeing a blind camera comparison between Pixel 6A, Pixel 7A and Pixel 7 Pro. maybe you can ask a friend or family member to take photos, or you ask them to compare them.

Sadly google only sells pixel on several country, most country in the world didn't get the chance to get it officially in their country, and if people do international shipping just to get the pixel, some feature will be locked. You can't use the 5G too since google locked it, not to mention the price increased by a lot because of international shipping, it can jump up from 499$ to 650$-700$ after taxes

I love the Samsung hardware. However, the stock android experience and clean software in Google are what I prefer more.

Just because it's stock doesnt always mean smooth because it gets very buggy since they get everything first.

How would 7A compare to Nothing Phone (1) when it comes to the camera? I'm looking for a new phone and looking mostly for a good picture quality.

@@Trickey2413 The difference in screen quality and battery life aren't that significant. Heating issues got rectified with software updates. 👍
