I have been teasing this series for a very long time...and that's because it took a VERY LONG TIME to make...a twenty episode retrospective on every Sega developed arcade racing game in 3D! Because whether its retro gaming or modern pc gaming...Sega is the KING of the arcade racing genre! So buckle up and get ready for a retrogaming ride!
THE RULES FOR INCLUSION: 1) It must have had an arcade release (So no Sega GT) 2) It must be in 3D (Bye Bye Outrunners, etc etc) and 3) you MUST be racing against an opponent and not just a timer (sorry Crazy Taxi, Wild Riders)
Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kurangui, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane,
tobemorecrazy, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holder Schmidt, Tim Lehner, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj, Dorfus the Maple Syrup Man, John Booty and Craig M!
Up next: Emergency Call Ambulance BONUS EPISODE! It's hard to call ECA a true arcade racing retro gaming experience...as you really aren't racing anything but the timer! So compared to Daytona 2 or Scud Race on the Sega Model 3...this one feels way more like Crazy Taxi! Which is NOT a bad thing. It's a legit awesome Sega arcade game you should 100% play and it works incredibly well on the Supermodel emulator. Emulation for the win here!
If only you could drift the ambulance like you drive in OutRun 2 though!
It was slated to come out for the Dreamcast too...and then it was cancelled. Classic Sega!

Good video about a great game. Without typing a complete review about, as much as I love this game, I'd like to add a few details which I think it deserves. As you mention it's not a racing game, it is a kind of an occupation themed skill-challenge much like certain other games from SEGA this era. Simply testing the game regardles of how well the emulation runs visually, with a keyboard or a gamepad, doesn't really give it much credit. You need precision control via a steeringhweel of analog sort, gas and brake pedals, and preferably also a gear shifter. The software allows for a choice of either a 4-position shifter, or up/dn shifter types.
The objective is to reach the ER as fast as you are able, yet driving carefully enough not to cause any damage to the patient, nor the vehicle. You have the patient on your monitor up right, as well as heart rate, remaining "health", and always listen to the medic voice. She will tell you when you're being careless ;)
The "Bonuses" in the game are infact ratings of your driving, mostly, and awarded after each "Case". So you need to be very precise to score any or all. That bridge can be cleared without loosing any points, just need to slow down and keep the vehicle straight to get a stable landing.
Don't know if I have some old clips of me driving .. I was very good. I'll check it.

One other thing - If you ever set up the original PCB for this game, you will eventually want to burn and modify two new EPROMs. The game has a "Cabinet Network Error" that is related to the drive board not being connected to the Model 3. It sticks there for about two minutes before the game finally loads.

For me, this game is another proof of Moder 3's superiority over the Naomi. Case in point: Crazy Taxi.
Both games are similar in that they use an open world town to traverse. But here, the town not only looks bigger/better with more things going on, there's also nearly infinite draw distance. Crazy Taxi on Naomi though, you only see a tiny part of the town as it slowly pops up in a short distance around you.
Same with the LA Harley Davidson Model 3 game. Yet another open world town filled with huge structures and zero pop-up. No such thing in Naomi though.

With manual I can only squeeze through the final course with a second on the clock--and we know how perfect you have to play in EGA to complete those courses. You see one complete working game for sale, go get it a.s.a.p! You'll be buying a SEGA driving setup that works with most other Model3 driving games, provided you get the appropriate board for it.

      A good question

    • @BinaryHedgehog1
      @BinaryHedgehog1 Год назад +1

I can answer this. The two games were made by different than semi-independent branches of SEGA. This game was developed by AM1 (who also made games like House of the Dead) and Crazy Taxi was AM3. That being said, the studios did collaborate often so it would not surprise me if some ideas exchanged hands.

Yeah no. I'm not going to be like other commentors who give you empty praise. This video was clearly rushed. Stop trying to rush out an episode every single day. Next time focus on QUALITY over Quantity. I played this game all the time in arcades, and I say this game deserves a better video from you.
You didn't even talk about the actual arcade cabinet. Not. one. single photo. Of. The. Arcade. Cabinet. You didn't talk about the development of the game, any of actual Sega staff who were involved in the game's development, or it's reception in arcades. Complete rush job.
All you did was talk about subscribing for the first part, then rambled about gameplay for 9 minutes. You could have done much better than that and you KNOW it.
You did a game that I played often a disservice. These videos are not supposed to be "fast food" that gets pumped out each day with low quality. There is much more you could have and should have done for a review about this game.

I think I kinda agree. Video Game Esoterica made a few good videos. But I think he rushing them out now maybe he thinks it gives him more subscribers by rushing maybe? I mean how can you talk about the arcade game without even mentioning the arcade cabinet? One picture would have been cool. Sega makes unique arcade cabinets but he dont even bother showing the arcade cabinet. Even other people in comments mention it.
