i remember getting kind of creeped out by this attract sequence as a kid. the stakes seem a bit higher than the other racing games you'd see in the arcade, eh? a scrape in some other games equals "Massive bleeding" for your poor patient here...
thank you for this excellent hardware capture!

I feel the same way about the subject matter!
In the first 'how to play' sequence the chilled out music coupled with the young boy having a bout of massive bleeding is a bit bizarre to say the least!
Respiratory arrest, Dyspnea, urinary incontience, vomiting, loss of consciousness, bleeding, severe pain, minor bleeding and pale face......all in a days work!
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the upload.
      Thanks.

*In my book, this qualifies as a "horror racing" game.*
Because despite the colorful, detailed, and vibrant environment full of fun, exciting, and sometimes humorous moments in the game's environment, there is a piece to the game that adds drastic amounts of tension, at practically all times.
Normally, point-to-point street racing is not meant to startle the player; theyre just having to race to the finish in hopes of getting gold. _Not in Emergency Call Ambulance!_
Even though the game somewhat follows the same point-to-point racing formula, your not fighting against an AI to get to the hospital; instead your fighting against a timer.
The timer is the very reason your racing to the hospital: _It determines the lifeforce of the poor soul in the back of the wagon._
_ONE MISTAKE_ can send the patient's "health timer" down by a few seconds, and it could be just enough to have the game force the player into watching them die.
That still of the patient's heartbeat having flatlined after they say _"I don't want to die!"_ could be the nightmare fuel needed to send shivers down an arcadegoers' spine.
All this, coupled with the rather difficult scenarios the game's scripted environment puts you through, is enough to make a simple run to the hospital become *a very intense and rather heart-pounding climax in a race against time.*

Interesting way to look at the game!
      Thanks for the comment.

I remember that the first time I saw this cabinet at my arcade center as a kid, I was terrified just by seeing the attract mode.
It gave me a lot of anxiety and terror to lose and think that the patient was going to die hahaha
Conveniently there were other Model 3 arcades that I could enjoy at that place as Daytona USA 2, Harley Davidson L.A Riders and Jurassic Park The Lost World (what good memories I have with that game)

I noticed that the attract mode displays all the different conditions the patient can go through. That being said, I noticed "vomiting" shows up, and I've never seen a patient experience that. I've seen everything, but that. I feel they took it out because it might be too graphic.
    Edit: "Urinary Incontinence" as well.

Looks like there's unused voice lines announcing Vomiting and Urinary Incontinence in the sound test screen too. I wonder if it was something cut late in development

@edgy2000skid Thanks for sharing! I didn't even think about checking out the sound test screen. There's a lot of sound bites that went unused in the final cut. There's other conditions that went unused that didn't even show up in attraction mode, such as severe pain, cardiac arrest, and sudden change in condition. There's also a sound bite where a woman says, "someone call the ambulance," and I'm certain it wasn't featured in any of the four cases, so they were probably going to add a fifth case, but decided to scrap it. I'm really curious about what they had in mind for that scraped case, but maybe it was just taken out of one of the four cases.

Nice one mate, excellent capture as ever.. better than my wobbly mobile phone footage! You must have put this one up especially for me ;)

      Thanks mate. :-)
As you know I did buy an ECA security board off the Geezer a while back but I only got this and L.A Machineguns back recently. Always regretted selling L.A Machineguns a while back....
I paid a couple of hundred for an untested M3 package about a week or so ago and they arrived at the beginning of the week. Unfortunately most of the stuff is dud even though the seller said it was working when last tested. A step 2 CPU board and ECA + L.A Roms + Sec boards made it an OK trade. Not as good as JNC trades, but I doubt anything will come near those trades going forward! lol
I kinda guessed you would have liked to see this up and running so here it is. ;-)
      Thanks.

I never have the chance to play to this one... it seems very fun, a sort of crazy taxi. Daytona 2, Scud Race and Sega Rally 2 were more beautiful but they are not really the same type of game...

      @icuk7  3 года назад

Yeah, I've not played this much myself.
It seems a very slow paced game compared to all the other Sega driving games. It's almost like it could be the prequel to Crazy Taxi.
I think the graphics are quite cool in this game. The lighting and reflections look really nice, and the character models of the 2 heroes are quite detailed for the time.
Thanks as always for the comments. :-)

Nice quality cap, but green seems to be consistently lacking? :)

    • @icuk7
      @icuk7  3 года назад

      Thanks Ian,
I'm not sure what happened with this capture to be honest mate, the hardware I was using was maxed out so it also gets a bit framey in places. The settings are the same as the L.A Machineguns 1440p Attract I uploaded at the same time and the colours in that seemed OK so I'm not sure what happened here.
I've just upgraded the CPU in my encoding PC so expect a 4K upload of the SpikeOut FE attract sequence once RUclips finishes encoding it. Hopefully RUclips doesn't destroy the quality too much. When I get some free time I'll see if I can get around to updating the other attract sequences I previously uploaded so they are all in 4K.
The old uploads are a bit poor in comparison now.
      Cheers.

@@icuk7 quality is really good. Some of the best I've seen. Was just wondering why green was consistently lacking. The board outputs analog, maybe it's coming off the board like that.
