    Love this video! I use to work in bariatrics/weight management and I would teach tracking calories and/or basic nutrition habits. It simply depended on the person and their needs. I completely agree that tracking is an excellent way to establish current intake, but not necessary to achieve goals. Something else to consider about why tracking isn't good for the long term is the effect it has on your attitude and mindset towards eating and your body. I've seen so many people, and experienced it myself, become too consumed in calories or macros that you forget how to eat well or how to use common sense when making food choices. I've also seen people become too obsessed with numbers and their day-to-day appearance. I've seen people feel like failures for not hitting their calorie or macro goals, but they might forget they ate a nutritious packed meal filled with quality macronutrients and antioxidants. I tracked for a short period of time and recently went back to the basics I know as an RD, and it's felt liberating and refreshing. Thanks for the video and always putting out good content!

    I started a workout challenge 60 days ago something I tried to do for years but gave up the first week because I saw no change. My goal was to lose 20lbs in these 2 months. Tomorrow is my last workout and I lost 10lbs. I'm so happy and proud because not only did I lose 10lbs. I do see definition and feel muscle everywhere. It made me realize that it's not always the scale. It's how you feel. Thanks for this video! My next challenge is starting Monday and I was gonna go really strict with my diet, but I'm just gonna eat real food in portions and moderation and let my body tell me what it needs and where it wants to be weight wise.

    Love this! I feel like there is so much pressure and so many videos about losing weight fast. I agree with you that it’s not really sustainable long term. It took me over a year and a half to lose 65 lbs. I eat smaller portions and less junk food but I also don’t completely deprive myself and I stay very active. I also love your point about everyone having a weight that there body is meant to be at . I try not to focus on the scale because I know I have muscle too. Thanks for your video and I subscribed!

    Love your videos and your message but I just wanted to present the other side of tracking. I never used to do it and was quite strongly against it as creating an unhealthy mentality, but after about 6 months of feeling like my eating had gone way off track, I gave it a go and it's made me feel back in control. I still eat healthy foods and it actually makes me feel more empowered not to have a cake or something every single day because I can see it'll push me over my target and then potentially out of a calorie deficit. It's made me feel like I have the knowledge and now the power to make the right decisions as to what I eat during the day. It's not for everyone but worth thinking about for people who have struggled to control cravings etc without tracking.
    Great vid tho xx

    It's true. Eating intuitively is the way to go. I've recently lost over 100 pounds by counting calories, but I went to far and developed an eating disorder. Don't count calories for weight loss... I agree with what you say about maybe using the apps to get an idea but get rid of it after a day or two. Great tips!

    So funny story. While I was looking up RUclips videos on how to have healthy, curly hair, I stumbled upon a girl who used this head massager thing that vibrates and throughly helps clean your scalp when shampooing (it was 3am. I was delusional and I gave into anything). I realized what I bought and thought to myself I won't do this again. And yet, here I am again. Buying a scale, from the same company, at 12am eastern time. I really hope it works lol. Love supporting you Becca ❤️

    A couples years back I begin my new life of eating better and exercising more. I was also wanting to loose weight. What I found that worked for me was counting calories. It kept me in check and allowed me to see just how many calories I'd been eating before this journey. It was a huge wake up call. I know have such a great outlook on food. Yes it has become addictive, but I embrace it because I know what I'm putting into my body and how much. It has helped me to make healthier choices because I know how much calories are in foods now. Or a generalization. It may not be for everyone and it's time consuming, but it has become a part of my life. When I had my Husband track his food for a week, he was shocked to see how many calories he was consuming a day. It can be eye opening. I also do intuitive eating on top of the calorie counting. I eat only when I'm hungry which is around 1pm and 5pm each day. I fast after dinner until I eat again at 1pm. There have been so many studies lately on intermittent fasting and the amazing things it does for our body. Again this may not be for everyone, but it's what works for me. I have also been able to loose around 18lbs by this and my body seems to be comfortable at the weight it's at. In order to drop more weight I tend to be staving myself and I don't want to live like that. So I agree, our bodies are meant to be a certain weight.

    @Hlprimm 7 лет назад

    Great video! I totally agree with the method of intuitive eating. I tried a exercise and meal plan for 15 days; I did benefit from it, but there is no way I could do that forever. I felt like it was a good "reset" to help me remember that I didn't need so many sweet foods. However, I was having to force myself to eat all of the food. My body was telling me to stop eating, but my meal plan told me to finish everything for the day. I have also noticed that I become obsessive when following something where I am counting macros. Creating disordered eating habits is the last thing I would ever want to do, so I have found that listening to my body is the best thing to do for my mental and physical health. Now does my "brain" tell me to eat ice cream when my body tells me not to? Definitely! But I just have to really ask myself if I need that. Sometimes I just really want it, so I just eat a bite to get the taste instead of having an entire bowl.
    There are also a lot of people commenting that they do not understand how you could loose weight and not count any calories. I may be wrong, but I feel like you have to give it a little time. Work on incorporating the whole foods into your diet so your body will start craving them because it won't be used to them if you never eat any kind of whole foods.

    How could you lose weight eating intuitively? If you eat by listening to your body your most likely eating at maintenance and not in a deficit to lose weight? I wanted to try to lose weight by intuitive eating but I don't know how to eat the right amount to lose body fat

    • @rebekahjohnson329
      @rebekahjohnson329 7 лет назад +2

      Bella Fernandez if your body is 'overweight' for itself or over the natural set point where it wants to be, you will naturally lose weight through intuitive eating because your body wants to remain in that set point range. If you're already at a healthy weight for your body, intuitive eating will help you maintain your weight because your body is happy with where you're at. If you're underweight, intuitive eating will guide you to gain weight. So it all depends on your body and where it's at!

      MidnightSun ADV it's actually not. in fact id say it's even less necessary for extremely over weight people. I'm glad that worked for you. But overweight people can eat intuitively as long as they are eating healthy foods only. If someone goes from eating only carbs, or fast good, grains, quick foods etc to eating lean proteins, healthy carbs and fats, and lots of fruits and veggies they will inevitably lose weight.

    I really don't understand why people say if you don't eat enough it will cause your metabolism to slow down and you won't lose weight. We've all seen girls that are skin and bones from starving themselves. I'm sure it does slow your metabolism down but people still lose weight that way. Dramatically cutting calories is the quickest way to lose weight I've found. Unfortunately you lose muscle too and the weight doesn't stay off because it's not maintainable long term. No one wants to eat only like 700 calories everyday for the rest of their lives.

      Princess q Not sure what your salads are like but maybe add more substantial stuff to them - try chickpeas, avocado and feta, with squeeze of lemon juice. Another good one is bitesize pieces of cold smoked mackerel, wholemeal pitta toasted and cut up, with a sprinkling of toasted seeds. If you get protein, fat, carbs and fruit/veg into a meal you will stay full.🖒😊

    • @makingoverv6021

      Simple carbs are the carbs that you want to stay away from because are found in most highly processed foods such as cake, candy, chips, ice cream, etc. Complex carbs are the carbs you want to eat more of which is found in foods such as fruit, veggie, whole grain, etc.

    Am on Weight Watchers and while staying within my points I do concentrate on nutrition.
    I make sure I eat 2-3 fruits, 5+ veggies, whole grains, lots of water, etc.
    To me it’s not just about points. You can stay within your points and eat junk.

    I'm confused though, don't you need to create a caloric deficit to lose weight? Isn't weight loss just calories in vs calories out...? I know there are many more benefits to eating whole foods and moving your body and I'm all for that, but it can still be hard to create a deficit when eating whole foods intuitively, especially when you're not used to eating those healthy foods often (like nuts or avocados which are particularly high in fats and therefore calories), as mentally you might just think "It's healthy it doesn't count". When you do your video on intuitive eating, it would be really helpful to see how you'd suggest balancing the intuitive eating, without overeating if that makes sense - it's the only reason why I do count calories, as I find even with working out 4 days a week, I don't see fat loss without calorie counting.

      Rebecca Copper I recently lost 28 pounds. Didn't count a single calorie. I ate fairly clean, a weekly cheat meal and it worked perfectly fine. I just always knew my limit. If you're eating nonstop, then that's not so good. You just have to be smart about it.

      maybe it's just certain body types, but I tend to maintain when I eat without counting rather than lose. And that would be fine if that was my goal and is how I intend to eat longer term? But it hasn't helped me to achieve any weight loss goals.

    Becca I love your support of intuitive eating, but how can anyone truly pursue learning to eat intuitively while still having their focus on weight-loss? supporting and advertising a scale like this directly contradicts your health message.

    Do you have some examples of a "fat and protein" meal? Also how would brown rice or quinoa play into effect into the up and down peaks you were talking about with carbs?

      I eat quinoa, brown rice mainly, vegs, fruits etc no calorie counting , no exercise and 5kg gone in 13 days . No more my fitness pal as I eat when I am hungry and I am still losing . Been to my GP yesterday and she was so exited for me . This video was helpful. I do everything she said so big thumbsup.

    I have a question! So I was bulimic for 8 years (until early 2017). When I was bulimic I was able to get down and consistently stay around 140-150lbs which is a healthy weight for my height and age. But the last 3-4 years of my recovery I haven't been able to lose a single pound. I've hovered pretty much at 165lbs for 4 years and I was wondering if you think that is due to my past eating disorder? This last year I've been working on not excluding junk food or any food from my diet and trying to find balances. I still struggle with binging fairly often so I'm worried that my exercise is just cancelling this out.I ask you this because when I was a nutrition student we talked about how the body has a weight that it likes, like it's homeostasis weight I guess you could say lol. Let me know your thoughts if you have the time :) Ps sorry for the long comment!

      Fitness With Cait hey I'm also recovered from bulimia and my body won't go down 70kg even though I'm 5'4". So I recently tried calorie counting for a few months and I got sick of it due to the dieting mentality but it helped me learn how many calories I'm eating. So now what I've started to do after watching Natacha Oceanes video called how to lose fat and build muscle is to reverse diet. I'm gradually increasing my calories and strength training and I've STOPPED dieting. I'm going to do this for a month then I'm going to see my progress. After that I can gradually decrease my calories from 2400 to 2000 calories and start losing fat. I'm basically trying to reset my metabolism and improve my relationship with food.

      Thanks for the info!! right now i'm focusing on trying to eat whole foods and less processed foods but basically moderation since i have a really hard time calorie counting. But once I get to a point where I feel comfortable I'll try it out!

    • @RosesareRed38
      @RosesareRed38 6 лет назад

      Fitness With Cait oh yeah I hate calorie counting too. I kinda know now how much calories are in my food and even if I don't it's okay...the body regulates the metabolism so in fact eating different calories every day (by NOT tracking) stops the metabolism from slowing down too much. Have you ever seen jade tetas videos? He says we should either eat less, exercise less or eat more, exercise more. Not eat less exercise more which is mainstream diet nonsense! Watch his video on RUclips and you'll see what I mean!

    Becca, everyone says that just running is enough to lose weight. I've even read a book about the importance of weight lifting, but I find that I am much more motivated to go to the gym if I focus on one long run. Is this a bad thing?

    • @rawrsiclesx
      @rawrsiclesx 7 лет назад +1

      Sticking to cardio only is going to make you skinny fat. If you don't lift, you don't build muscle mass, so even if your weight is low, your muscle to fat ratio is going to be off and you aren't going to look lean. At least go for some light weights - although I'm a big proponent of heavy weight lifting! Just jump into it and before long you're going to feel soooo much more fulfilled at the gym :)
