Good luck! Single hook inline spinner with a wire weed gaurd! The hook on this bait is actually weighted, it's almost like a jighead but there's no bend in the shank
@@finnafishfl heck yeah! I'll make some weird contraption to pour some lead on a hook. I've been mainly targeting bass for years and live right next to the damn Mississippi+ alot of backwaters.. never caught a bowfin and want to get one this year! Glad we don't have gators up here haha
I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing those bowfin boiling on spinnerbaits, such a powerful fish. Also, loved the soundtrack and seeing that barred owl.
5 months later update: I've been fishing for bowfin a lot and the lures that I've found to work are spinners and vibrating jigs. I've actually caught the most on spinners. I don't know what it is, but they seem like pike, if they see something flashy and swimming by they go for it. I've been using $1 walmart spinners and they've been working very well! The bad thing about them though is they're cheap so they go out soon, so I just buy a lot of them. And they're only semi weedless. I've never seen in weedless spinners, so thanks for the info, I'll look it up.
Strangely no I've only lost 2 hollow body frogs this season one of them was to a snapping turtle. I use pad crashers which aren't expensive and honestly any size brand rattling crankbait.
Yeah I agree that is a tough lake to fish, only caught a handful of bass out of there. I know what your talking about with that gator island, I've seen the big daddy come flying through the brush and into the water, scared the crap out of me just seeing how big that bull is. I have one of those inline spinners...have yet to use it. Good job man!
That gator is a freak of nature. It looks like its 500lbs. As far as bass is definitely not a numbers lake. I havent done a lot of bass fishing there but ive started to. The biggest ive seen from the lake is about 4 or 5lbs but the fish are well fed in the lake.
@@finnafishfl yeah treble works best, although it's somerimes hard to remove. I literally just caught a 3.75 pound bowfin a few minutes ago using a popper and it was hard to get out
@@austinhernandez2716 yea trebles and bowfin are scary. Its funny I fish singles on my lures for most fish but with certain funny mouths like gar I love trebles
@@finnafishfl it was my first time using treble for bowfin. Well a lure that is, the popper. I usually use cut bait with a regular hook but I saw one swimming by in shallow water so I went for it
New camera setup fire
I’m glad to see you learned your lesson and are taking proper care of our delicate native bowfin gloveless
Lmfao
Nice! Ill have to make some inline spinners, totally planned to sacrificing a slough of offsey spinnerbaits. Thanks man!

I only know about fish I thought that was big bird
Alien-looking forest-lake, sweet catches and that bomb outro song, 10/10 video as always!
Thanks!
best bowfin lure ever was the lambo spinner, straight up
Lul
Need to catch one, they are spread out up here in Lake Erie and some tribs.
Yea their presence way up there is mind boggling

Gonna give these a shot. Man if it had a pink skirt 😉. They hate pink so good here in NC
Put a pink 3 inch gulp swimming mullet on the back! Adds scent too
White cabeleas swim baits are pretty fire 🔥 too! (The only good thing they make lol)
Its the same mold as the slam shady! Lol
Best lure ever and best vid ever also keep up the good work!
That lure kicks ass! And thank you will do
crank baits and hollow body frogs for me.
Sounds expensive

Oh I see you live in Florida, I just moved to Tampa, what city you live in?
I have never caught a bowfin before because I don't live where I can catch them but those are some good fighting fish from what I can tell
Theyre a ton of fun!

Man some of the locations you fish in are spooky looking. Hate to get caught out there without a paddle after dark. Nice fish, by the way.
I've had visions of it myself and it would be terrifying lol. Thanks
Those bowfin are strong man, good vid

Gar aren't hard fish to catch? It's like a hit or miss for me.
Yea I should've been more specific because they sure can be a pain. Sight fishing one with a little treble hook lure isn't too hard though
