@@TopTacticFishing Also caught a nice 27.5" Gator Gar the other day in the same creek!! We have this little creek here where I live and it is filled with all kinds of fish, Tilapia, Bass, Blue Gills and Gar. It is just amazing because the creek is not very big and in Florida we have had no rain for months and alot of the water levels in the ponds, lakes and creeks are low. But for some reason this creek has all kinds of fish. It is kind of not much of a challenge because the fish are right there. LOL Just throw your line in with bait and something will hook on. Caught a big turtle too and thankfully he got off the hook. LOL Anyway, enjoyed your video. Good luck fishing!! Go Get Em!!
Dogfish as I call them are amazing to catch. They fight like hell. I just wish more people would know they aren't invasive and not related to the snakehead. They are great to eat as well. It makes me sad seeing people kill them then throw them back.
That's a beautiful fish! I remember going fishing here in South East Louisiana as a child and looking at the fins of these fish sticking out a foot or so. They where HUGE... but we call them Choupic (shoe-pick) and the trick to keeping it from going mushy is cleaning them alive then vinegar and water soaking for a couple of hours. Amazing flavor and such a clean fluffy white meat.
Interesting video. I have actually never caught a bowfin as small as the first one you caught. I use the same setup as I do for catfishing, which is with using a circle hook instead of a kale or j - hook. Nice PB bowfin by the way. 24.5" is a pretty good size. I'm glad to see another angler targeting this hard fighting fish!
Thanks for taking us with you. There is a guy on here 618 fishing is his channel and I have seen him catch some nice bowfin on his channel. He catches a lot of his at dam spillways with some current in the water.
I'm from DAYTONA BEACH FLORIDA and I have had great success with a Texas rig, on a plastic worm 🐛 on SPRUCE CREEK area by the FLY IN - WHERE JOHN TRAVOLTA used to live.
WOW! Really nice Bowfin bud! That was a big one, that would have been a big one anywhere! There was a paylake that I used to fish back in the 70’s & 80’s, actually it is paylakes because there was 5 “ponds” there but every so often somebody would catch one of those ( I believe ) in one of those ponds but most of the folks fishing there back then, they were calling them a “Dogfish “, and like I said, I believe that’s what they were catching, I don’t know that for sure because I was seeing them from a distance.. I just suspect that’s what they were catching, I don’t know what else it could have been...
Top Tactic Fishing - I thought that’s exactly what those guys meant when they said it’s a dogfish, back then. Thanks buddy I appreciate you getting back to me! Tight lines my friend!
I live near Christiana river near Wilmington river front.... I would like to try this back in there .... Im trying to find me a kayak for a good price and add a trolling motor to it
The second one you caught is about the average we catch down here in AL. We use circle hooks or large treble hooks and we hardly ever have any issues keeping them on. The key is making sure your hooks are either brand new or have been sharpened before use. Their favorite bait down here are shrimp.
Bowfin fight as hard as bass. I never had an issue with them spitting the bait out but they have snapped many lines. I use dead goby on a size 6 octopus hook without a swivel. I might use a swivel in the future because they snap my line a lot (I use 8-10lb test) They are called dogfish in my area
I remember my friend and I went fishing off the side of road last year and he caught a bowfin. We thought it was a snake head. I almost caught one but it snapped my line just as I got it to the shoreline.
Cut your bait a lil smaller my guy. I love catching bowfin smart n feisty fish. In Louisiana the elders like to use cane poles so they can penetrate those hare ass bones they have.
My husband is from Louisiana and e every time we go back too visit. His parents and Auntie house live next to a big creole family and they go fishing for hrs together but they call them choupick or something like that . whatever they are they taste good fried with shrimp, and crab... Delicious...❤❤✌✌
I just caught a nice 20" Bowfin here in Florida today. Used a chicken heart for bait! Chicken heart is firm and will hold on the hook.
Awesome. That’s a nice catch

yes you are correct. thanks for the clarification on that!
I have a video of a adult female we found with a partially digested banded water snake in its stomach, I’ve also found plastic worm bass baits.
