Reason that the Mistwalker (and Frostner and Frost Arrows) do not stagger as fast as a weapon doing equal total dmg, is that frost and spirit dmg do not contribute to fill the stagger bar. Only blunt, slash, pierce and lightning contribute to the stagger bar. That is why the Nidhögg of Thundering imo is the best of the one handed swords. Especially since the 20% chance chain lightning effect also contributes to the stagger bar of all enemies around. So your "but", arguing that frost dmg makes a weapon better, disregards the fact, that frost does not stagger. Frost is always a tradeoff for staggering capabilities. Thus is is a choice between two effects, that each have their benefits. Frost helps with crowd control, staggering helps with killing faster. So i find non frost weapons, work much better in duels, but frost weapons help more with crowds. Albeit, as soon as you get your hand on one iolite, the non frost weapons get overall more powerful (see below). Also there is no reason to not carry two weapons, but many for it. It is always good to have a backup, if durability runs out. And if one carries two weapons anyways, you can just have one frost and one stagger weapon, using frost, when a crowd gets too much and stagger, otherwise. And carrying a frost arrow loaded bow, to slow enemies combined with a stagger type melee weapon, worked also well for me. All that said, by far the most powerful weapon in the Ashlands (and the game so far) are imo the (Thundering) Berserkir axes. Their fast attack rate makes them already very powerful, without Thundering. But with it, the chain lightning effect procs so often, that it gets incredible powerful. And even if you accidentally (or intentionally) hit trees, the chain lightning can proc, hitting enemies in the vicinity. It is also noteworthy, that faster attacking weapons profit much more from upgrading, since all weapons get the equal 6 (or 5 for most axes) points of dmg per upgrade (I think knives are different, but I don't use them). For the faster weapons, that means a much higher percent increase of their initially lower dmg, and thus a better dps increase. Thus the berserkir axes profit a lot from upgrading and the +10 lightning dmg they get from an iolite gem. Also since the iolite upgrade already adds 10 dmg and a 20 to 25 chance to extra aoe chain lightning dmg, even tier 1 ones are better than a fully upgraded bare flame metal weapon. Btw: Frostner and generally one handed club type weapons do not have shorter range of their primary attack, than one handed swords. Both have exactly the same 90° arc of attack and reach of 2.4 meters. Although the knockback might make it feel that way, since you miss combos, because of it. But if you do not combo, they hit exactly the same. Another effect that might swords seem to have higher reach, is that their primary swing attack suffers no multi-target-dmg-penalty, which makes them much more powerful against groups. I think that was not always so, but came with some update, maybe with Mistlands introducing Krom. The secondary attack is indeed different, with swords having 2.7 m reach with just 10° arc, that makes it very easy to miss. x3 dmg (x3 stagger). The clubs offer 2.4 m reach, with a better 30° arc. x2 dmg and x5 stagger. So slightly lower range with three times the arc, means far better chances to hit, if your aim is not perfect. Also the finding, that Krom kills slower disregards, its higher reach and stagger capabilities, compared to other swords. In that case, the higher reach with its wide swinging arcs, that have no multi-target-dmg-penalty, actually help quite a lot, at keeping enemy groups away and/or staggered.
I just have iolite infused everything. Lol. Thay lightning jumps is just badass. Lol. I've gotten to where I will let entire fuling villages surround me after killing the berserker and shaman, of course, and will take out almost the whole village when it hits. Lol
Staff of the Wild is king, not frost staff. I've taken out such large groups with that, just kite around your own vines and watch them wreck everything. It's also fun to throw a giant flaming skeleton troll in the mix to rampage.
It is worth much more! It has SO much content already, and it's not even fully done (I think one biome and the ending is all that's left, seven biomes are complete). That is, if you are OK with survival mechanincs. If you have resource gathering crafting building etc., it may not be for you.
Silver arrows work well especially when you sneak attack 'cause both the pierce AND spirit damage is increased by x3. With a decent bow skill and a level 3 or 4 spinesnap, you can one-shot tweakers and marksmen. You can get a warrior down to around half health from a single silver arrow sneak attack. Valkyries will take about 400 damage (a bit more than 25% of their health). Against morgen -- just use the best arrow you have because they're only weak to lightning. Also, spirit damage stacks so you don't have to worry about wasting ticks by hitting it with another arrow.
Yeah...ok people. You DO NOT want to upgarde any ashlands base weapons that can become gem variants beyond level 1... It will cost alot of hard to come by resources. And when you switch to the gem variant (wich is what he should have been using in the test, because no one thinks its a good idea to run plain nidhogg, but it would of gone against his argument had he used a gem nidhogg as example because you have to take their effects into account, wich you should because mistwalker has effects ) Anyway the gem variant gos back to level 1 no matter what level the base weapon was... So dont waste resources
I just feel like spark gets obsessed with root armour or frost stuff being still viable way after their acquisition... Wich I agree is cool. But you're drawing some long bows to try to imply their superior to current biomes top equipment
That wasn't the purpose of the test. I used that sword and at the levels I used it to eliminate variables. When will people understand variables screw up your data and need to be eliminated... You are right you would indeed not upgrade that sword unless you use a gem in most cases. But once again none of that has anything to do with the question I was trying to answer and that is does silver damage let you kill charred faster? Also also the only one of those gems that's actually gonna do you any real good is the lightning one and I'm not sure the chance to damage an adjacent enemy is better than chilling multiple... That probably just comes down to play style tbh.
@@Firespark81 "does silver damage let you kill charred faster".. than what? I dunno man.. seems to me the answer is yes more than half the Ashlands are undead including charred, so it does do more damage to charred than a non silver counterpart. Aside from warning people not to waste materials upgrading base weapons My point was that the mistlands counter part is not the base nidhogg. As you pointed out in the video, their straight weapon damage is similar. But you then went on to list silver damage and frost effects as pros towards the mistwalker. So the counterpart to that for the comparable damage sword is the effects they gain from gem variants.. I guess I just misinterpreted the whole thing. The answer is yes... Silver does extra damage to undead enemies. And frost/silver weapons are definitely king when you first arrive..
Bro please go watch the video and actually listen to what I say. At no point did I say silver damage was a pro for the mistwalker. I literally said it's basically pointless. A dot does not kill as fast as something that attacks at the same speed and doesn't dot. As for variants, blood is same situation gives you 0 cc. Poison would be bad as charred are immune so you are wasting stamina. Lightning same situation as base sword and gives 0 cc. Crowd control just makes combat easier. It's really that simple.
Raising skill to 100 will be unreachable for most users, including me, I guess, without cheating. Dying, especially at higher skill levels, hurts and adds to partially lower damage when fighting multiple mobs at the same time which again increases the likelihood of you dying in that process.
@@Firespark81 No need to get defensive here :) Sure, I get it. You basically try to reduce the numbers of variables in that equation as higher level do not necessarily mean higher damage, as shown in your video. But with reduced costs more of the resource could be used either for further hits and thus more damage or for other stuff like protection bubble or dodge rolling which inherently increases your survivability and thus your overall damage (being dead = 0 damage after all). As such, higher skill levels in the end do matter, at least IMO. Others also mentioned that you probably should have tested gemed versions here. I haven't had the chance to get my hands on such an upgrade so far as I have yet to get into one of these fortresses and farm enough flamental ore. The past couple of hours I was more focused on farming enough potions, taime Askvins and prepare enough buff food besides fortifying my little home I build right at the shore where I stranded, so I'm not that far into the whole Ashlands progression yet.
@@Peppanomaly I was about to say this, I’m 89 run, 88 jump and 81bow as it’s my primary weapon, also help if you study the biome you’re in and get use to the attack animations of the enemies
Other thing ou have to consider is that if you are fightin in a real combat experience in Ashlands its really rare the time you can go hammer on an enemy for 4 seconds straight without needin to dodge or kite something around. This is where the DoT of Mistwalker comes in handy... when you are strikin once, kiting around, strikin again, dodgin and such everytime you are not hittin the enemy at least they are slowed down and receivin damage over time, thus making a faster and easier kill than with the flat Flametal Sword's damage.
I find that despite the fire resistance, multiple enemies are STILL best handled using the fireball staff due to it's even split with blunt, causing you to do around 75% of base damage (Still strong). Also need to consider that after your first stronghold raid you can upgrade your Flametal weapons to the three varients. The Flametal Mace when upgraded to lightning is really nice too (As is the sword and dual axes) due to the chain lightning effect. Poison upgrades stop enemies turning when the immobilise procs allowing you to get behind them and relentlessly punish. The blood upgrade feels garbage tbh.
I think the main difference between normal weapons and magic staves in Valheim is the resource they use. Since you need to use stamina for BOTH attacking and dodging (or running) that makes it a little more difficult, you got to take care not to end up exhausted (no stamina) and mobs ready to make your life bar disappear. Meanwhile staves use eitr/mana and that bar charges separately. Thus for mages you use stamina for positioning and eitr for combat, a more safe style. However mage armor is much weaker than warrior's heavy armor, so getting hit, well, hits differently, lol (pun intended).
No speed test with Frostnr? Charred are also a skeleton that are weak to blunt aren't they? Or is the overall damage too low on it to make up for that?
My gut feeling would be that it's going to be slower for frostner. I feel that the knock back mechanics are what makes it viable. Sort of ease vs efficiency. 1 on 1 I'd go frostner to make it easier to avoid damage. Multiples though I'd favour attack speed, I'd go so far as to say mistwalker over the new sword for that chill effect despite the slower kills just for the easier management of multiple enemies. I'm not an expert though just my logic
The whole reason you want the new weapons is not its base stats but the magic infused gems you give them. Do a video on gem infused weapons and you will see the utility can be greater than what the mistwalker and frostner can do. But dont get me wrong they are a must for entering ashlands.
Wasn’t a magic guy, but I will say magic the only thing keeping me alive in the Ashlands. Had to retire the combat weapons. lol but I also just got the resources to start crafting some of the newer weapons
Silver sword is a nice backup to have in ashlands. (your weapon is gona break fast) Demolisher is a must have as you gona get overrun pretty fast. Oh and medium shield blocking then counter deals way more damage overall. You also get constantly hit by arrows from far away, so its nice to block them. And HP HP STAMINA FOOD... for melle (with a potion that gives you stamina over time) Must be mistland tier minimum as anything else and you will have a hard time blocking.
@@Firespark81 i'm kinda confused. Level 4 silver sword needs two consecutive hits to kill a twitcher, full three hits combo to kill a charred warrior and also do an overall decent damage against morgens. I don't really get it why do you consider it's trash.
For me the key to not getting overrun in the Ashlands is to kill quickly and in a contained area. The longer the fight goes the bigger the area it covers and the more mobs join in. I've found Mistwalker is by far the best weapon. The new weapons seem a bit disappointing but perhaps they'll be great in the Northlands.
The base versions of the new weapons are definitely mids but the elemental upgrades make up for it. Mistwalker and frostner still compete strongly though.
thats a good point, the much lower stamina use is very useful, especially if you're running a lot. Do you usually just use the standard combo or the heavy?
makes sense that the mistwalker doesnt stagger cuz the one disadvantage to frost is the fact it doesnt deal stagger, so mistalker has only 75 stagger while the nidhõgg has ~135
Jeez, I got some work cut out. Haven’t even taken on the Queen yet, and I just crafted the frost staff. I think my magic skill is about 8-10 lol. Gotta find another queen location, the one I had got messed up in the terrain reconfiguration, little too close to deep north I guess. Thankfully I’ve steered clear of the Ashlands, so that *should* generate in just fine… hopefully. Guess I’m upgrading that staff too, seems it’s coming with when I do finally enter Ashlands!
It really is a shame that the Himmin Afl isn't that good of a weapon even though its one of my personal favorites. They need to show more love to the Atgeirs.
I've seen a lot of people talking them up but quite honestly they seem to fall short for me. The attack speed isn't that much faster than a sword, the damage isn't that much greater unless you hit full combos, the range is shorter, and you lose out on crucial blocks/parries. The only time they do some real work is if you pop bonemass and just face tank a mob of enemies while swanging. Additionally they do well if you're playing with friends and someone else has aggro. Sword and board + bow is still king for overall damage, survivability, and covering all situational use. I replaced my black metal axe with the zerkers though and use them to chop trees as well as situational use in combat. Morgen gets absolutely demolished by the lightning axes ;p
I prefer the primal axes coupled with the root bow. I sling arrows until enemies get snared then I go behind them with the axes to keep them rooted while doing damage
People are sleeping on the zerkers. By far have the highest dps in the game and the middle click gives so much mobility it’s insane. They are the best weapon to kill spawners with unless you cheese from a distance
Kinda disappinted at the new Fire sword in Ashlands. So much effort just to craft it and yet the damage isn't as good as i had hoped for. Mistwalker still good
Excellent job brother, damage analysis is so tricky and so contextual, but you've done a great job of laying out the facts and your assumptions. My gear is maxed now, I've done 15-16 fortresses and I'm loving the lightening Flametal sword. - just need to be methodical when in close on 1 or 2star charred warriors. I'm going to level the Flametal mace next just to experience the knockback gameplay.
The massive "but" most definitely applies to how damage is applied. If you play on very hard then you know trading and situational advantage when and how you apply combos to things, changes things drastically. Krom is still better with damage at spacing with its heavy attack and at the same time the slow from mistwalker helps applying damage without the possibility of trading. I play solo and on very hard so parrying without the bubble and being able to apply damage traditionally goes out the window lol. The demolisher with krom heavy attacks and crossbow/spear chucking is the warriors way to paradise.
Demolisher can easy handle groups and they will never will touch u, and if they week to silver = silver sword must be op cause it make 91 slash + 67.5 (45*1.5) spirit = 158.5 damage , wich is bigger then ash sword and mistwalker ( ash sword with litghning stone is the best choose )
Its not. Its damage is 130 capped out in which 45 of that is done over 7 ticks. A capped mistwalker does 148 in which 15 of that is done over 7 ticks and as stated in the video flat damage kills faster and frost is op.
should also done a test with an upgrade flamemetal sword with the differnt elements. ie lightning. Probbaly would have seen that the lightning flamemetal sword would have killed a lot faster
@@Firespark81 This is true. But, it does have a chance to chain lightning and also stun your target. Also, the lightning damage does more damage. But I agree, the slow helps. But the slow from frost runs off almost instant, unless applied consistently.
Not that it can REMOTELY come close to being the "best" weapon, but have you done damage tests on the "new Krom" with the Blood enchantment, assuming 2 HP foods? Any thoughts?
@@Firespark81 My initial idea was mainly the Slayer, since Storm favors fast attacks. Singular larger hits might stagger more? lol. Well best of luck on taking a nap...then make the video ;)
Frost arrows dont really do all too much damage. Insane damage isnt what frost arrows have ever been known for, or ever will be. Frost arrows are useful to slow down the enemy which allows you to fight and kill many enemies way above your level. Your frost arrows arent doing "massive damage" to the archers, the archers are just as weak as the twitchers are, literally any weapon takes them down easily.
??? but you can buff the Ashlands weapons with the crystals. Why is this not included in the calculus??? That's literally the ENTIRE point of these weapons...
You can make an argument that the spirit damage is useful in a real world situation due to the damage over time allows for damage to be done while you are out of range or dealing with alot of enemies. A war of attrition if you will. I'd also point out that time to kill isn't really all that useful of a test however besides spawning in an 'average amount and spread of mobs' on a beach multiple times and trying to take it with a variety of weapons and timing the time to pacify let's say with a damage taken and let's be balanced here. Pros and cons in difficulty or squeaky bum times I'm not sure how else a fair test could be made real world appropriate. My logic being ok charred are most common but is the addition of other mobs that realistically could be present going to alter the numbers and or ease significantly? I do realise that adding mobs that may not be weak to silver will decrease its value over all but this is counter balanced by the benefit of dealing damage over time on enemies not actively being attacked at that second, and the relative values of those competing factors I personally feel.would be interesting. I am however not capable of producing the tests
That argument would only make sense, if the spirit dot, together with its instant base dmg, would be significantly higher than the other weapons sole instant dmg. But that is not the case, for Mistwalker. E.g. if you have two weapons, one doing 150 instant dmg and the other doing 75 instant + 75 dot dmg, the full instant dmg is better under all circumstances, since the enemy just dies faster, and is no threat any more. E.g. if the enemy has 200 HP left, you in both cases have to hit him two times. With the instant weapon he would be out of the picture, immediately. The only effect the dot weapon would have, is that you have to wait a while, until he dies. Even a Silver Sword, doing 93 instant + 68 dot against creatures weak to spirit, would only do a total of 161 dmg, which is not much more than the Ashlands weapons instant dmg. For your argument to work, you would e.g. need a weapon that would do something like 80 instant and 120 dot dmg. But that does not exist.
@Xendrasch what about a scenario where you're fighting multiple enemies? Let's say using the same math, you're fighting 3 enemies with 200 health, and you're unable to take a hit (low health, undergeared, whatever). While fighting, you can only swing once every ten seconds, then back to defensive fighting. A weapon that does 60 base damage and 20 dot damage, a single creature will die in 7seconds. (Within your defensive window) While you're right that smacking something twice with a higher base damage is quicker, I think there's value to be able to do constant damage when you're unable to sit and swing for the hills.
@@UnknownUsername131 You misunderstood how dot dmg in Valheim works: 20 dot dmg does not mean that you will take 20 dmg every second (or other time interval). It means that you will take a total of 20 dmg spread over a certain time interval. So in your example the enemy will never die, since he only takes 60 base instant dmg and 20 dmg over time, that totals to 80 dmg. Therefore dealing 80 instant dmg is always better. More exactly all spirit dmg is dealt in one sixth of the specified dmg, over a period of 3 second, ticking every 0.5 s, for 6 times (sometimes 7 because of a rounding error). Thus taking the example 20 spirit dmg, the target would take 3.33 dmg every 0.5 s, adding up to 20 dmg after the sixth tick at the 3 seconds mark. Then the dot stops. So dmg numbers on weapons are directly comparable, assuming no resistances or weaknesses on the target.
Using the basic combat mechanics you cannot stagger charred, trying out more advanced mechanics like the block combo/jump combo/ power combo ect. may induce a stagger. There are more videos out there that can explain this and with practice you can shred much faster even with basic iron gear.
Depends on situation, if solo Frostner is best as you can juggle multiple enemies safely with minimal risk of death although Mistwalker is very good as well. I do wonder how all the other silver weapons would do like silver sword et cetera.
I do like frostner as I stated in the video it did do well. My issue is its range is a bit rough to deal with at times and if I am suggesting a weapon to people to use. I want them to have the rande MW provides.
With the leaks about the dual axes I was under the impression that they were going to implement dual-wielding and had pre-crafted a second Mistwalker. I was crestfallen. I was hoping to use a heavy offense as my defense...turns out I just used the shield.
@@Jonahhi I just thought they were the "foreshadowing" of actual dual-wielding and that it would be implemented with Ashlands from the footage shown there with the twin axes. Skol and Hati don't look like they could be/would be individual weapons unlike the one-handed axe which we already use.
Is it just me or does Irongate hate bows? I've been a big sneak archer since Skyrim and it seems that my preferred method of play is massively punished in this game.
Are you playing sneak archer because you "like the playstyle", or merely because it tends to be the most broken playstyle in any game that allows you to play as a stealth archer?
Honestly? I feel it makes sense for X creature. at max, most fleshie things seem to be one hit for me especially with the new bow (not including sneak attacks, where I hit a troll for 900+). Skeletons make sense in being resistant. What would be cool is a weighted/shorter range blunt arrow to use on skeletons but even still, I'm primarily running bow and the fenris set in the ashlands without a problem, and then the shock form of the dual axe if stuff gets close.
Forget all that mechanics garbage. Will stick with my archer build with two handed hammer or equivalent to AOE grouped mobs/adds. Hasn’t failed me on any boss. Just need the right type of arrows for their weakness DOT (frost here). Frost seems to way for Ashlands, and this strategy works for all other biomes, just know the weakness and shape the environment to your advantage. Always remember, the key to this game has always been to control/shape the environment to your advantage. If the environment isn’t amenable to change, pull the mobs/bosses into another that is (where possible). Good luck.
This likely just means that you have a few spawners nearby. I recommend locating those as soon as you can to destroy them. Once they are gone the spawn rates are much more manageable. What I would do is find a spot out on the water, perhaps on one of the Grausten pillars, to set up a first portal (just in-case) then crash land onto shore and focus down all the nearby spawners.
@@longjohnlongdong4692 yes… but honestly it’s preferable for those who just like to build. I understand the fighting mechanics, I’m no stranger to PvP. It’s quite entertaining 😋
You snoozed on the best weapon against charred warriors - the demolisher. Aoe damage + knockback and possibly stun is hard to beat. Mistwalker is great all around, and especially vs askvin and morgen. But imo there is no single "best" Ashlands weapon. Different weapons shine vs different enemies, as always.
Lvl 47 magic. 51 run. I use the fenris set with askvin cape. 2 eitr foods 1 stamina food. I run circles around everything and the vines just go to town killing things. I never get touched.
@@austinrobinson8130 I keep both on me and hotswap between the two. Usually use the feather cape if I’m grabbing some flametal or need to hop off a rock to cross the lava. In combat I prefer the askvin cape cause you can outrun and lose anything easily, even the stupid Valkyrie
Did the fix it and I missed it? Cause last time I checked it's range was trash? Also it's half useless against the charred as they are immune to poison.
I'm playing the ashlands right now and i gotta say i find all of this quite useless. Why? No one in their right mind should be using upgraded flametal sword (nidhogg) without the gem upgrades. Just use the mistwalker. so comparing the two is meaningless and pointless. ice staff is fine but its tiny dmg is kinda annoying and tedious plus you are slowed down too when shooting so... kiting for a long period of time is not an option. You need to nuke and get out. It's quite good vs vultures and valkyries. My advise is, test things for yourself and see what is best for your playstyle. When it comes to resources dont upgrade any regular flametal weapon. Wait till you get a gem and do it then. I suggest lighting sword. It obliterates things and mistwalker cant compete with the dmg output. get a shield upgrade b4 any armor. If you're a mage wand of the wild is absolutely broken and OP and i love it. Roots ftw.
Agreed. I also like to emphasize, that you not just should wait for just any gem, but exactly for an iolite (the blue gem) to get the lightning upgrade, that is much more powerful than the two other available gem upgrades, especially against most Ashlands creatures. The green gem, gives poison, that is useless against most Ashlands mobs, that are fully immune. The immobilization effect is nice, but not as powerful. The blood stone only works, when you lost significant HP, which is more a gimmick to try out, than a useful effect. Also if you want to trade a bit more risk, for a lot of power and fun, try out the Thundering Berserkir Axes.
This video is quite misleading. You spent bigger portion of the video checking if Spirit damage type is worth it, but I don't see the Silver Sword anywhere. You use it just like you used Frostner, and let the DoTs tick. Mistwalker is 90% non-Spirit damage, and wailing at the enemy until it dies is not how you would use the Spirit damage type either. If you wanna compare kill times + 1 second difference matters + you include the new Ashlands content (you used a Flametal weapon), then I'm pretty sure the best weapon by far is Nidhögg the Thundering. Both in your test chamber, and in a real melee situation. The scene where you kite multiple warriors is silly. In a real scenario, you would jump up on the raised ground that's right next to you all the time, and kill them from the safe position. And you would use Staff of Embers because of its AoE damage.
Gonna have to hard disagree with frost staff being king. lightning axes can absolutely destroy a group of charred as long as your parrying/rolling skills are up to par.
Like I stated in the video. This is all based on average players. People with mid gaming skill and average reflex times. Of course if you are good a parrying, rolling and everything else any weapon is going to work just fine.

@@Firespark81I am using these axes as a backup weapon as a mage, I sometimes carelessly rely on my protective Buble and just attack using these axes. They kill enemies fast.
I think you should repeat the test without constructing any earth wall, especially for krom sword. No sure if it is a bug, the krom sword, although said to be have no penalty on multi target, when it hit earth wall or terrain, its dmg reduce significantly.
As a solo player, I completely disagree with mistwalker being better than frostnir. The knockback is more important than anything to me. Day one of sailing into ashlands with my fully upgraded mistwalker and I died 10-15 times (only died like twice in all of mistlands). Switched to frostnir on day 2 of ashlands and I can finally breathe and make progress. Mistwalker doesn’t do enough when there’s 10+ creatures on you and you’re a solo player with no knockback. Also really like the demolisher for groups of asksvin. Just my two cents!
I didn't say it was better I said I found mistwalker easier but that frostner was totally a viable option and you should totally keep using it if you already have been.
@@Firespark81 at 11:00 you literally ranked Mistwalker 1st and Frostnir 2nd for melee, if you wanna get technical about what you said. It’s all just opinions I suppose. I don’t see how you can describe having flawless battles with frostnir, albeit 1v1’s and yet choose mistwalker when it will just simply get you murdered in groups. I don’t think the additional 1ft of range than the mistwalker gives is worth zero knockback but like I said, all opinions. I just think that players who are newer to the ashlands would by far benefit from Frostnir, but this was just in my case. Still enjoy the content!
Yea in terms of what I found to be the easiest to use. Listen to all my words not just half of them lol On top of that I even explained why I feel this way so I'm not going to repeat myself here 😁
misleading IMO. 'not even a challenge', ur using a lingering mana potion and your still fighting OOM most of the fight, kiting in Ashlands for that long will get you killed. its just too easy to die in Ashlands if you are solo using Magic, I use it to clear fortresses, the rest of the time, I need armor/health/mobility. Also fighting the normal mobs are not that difficult for ANY build, magic or melee, the problem always lies with the starred enemies that hit like a truck. They almost one-shot me in ask armor, guess what that translates into using mage armor? Yes, I'm as good at dodging as anyone, but eventually, you will get hit no matter how good you are.
My friend and I played through the Ashlands on hard mode, both of us as caster builds. Everything had the potential to one shot us even twitchers and Marksman. I can tell you that after doing a melee only run of Ashlands, magic is by far and away the superior option, even in normal difficulty. Kiting in the Ashlands is actually optimal and if anything, holding your ground in one area is almost always a death sentence. Keep in mind, the guy who made this video wasn't rested when he was testing so obviously his Eitr regen is going to be low. Also it's not just about dodging, if you have feather cape, it's better to run and jump away from enemy attacks. Combine that all with the fact, that even if you have high armor, it's not really going to mean you live longer (due to movement speed penalties), therefor any build that focuses on being mobile in the Ashlands excels. That is why you see most people either using the Ask set or the Embla set, mainly because the movement penalties can be a deathtrap in the Ashlands. Just a side note, the Staff of Protection is really good and it shouldn't be viewed as something that makes you tanky. The Staff of Protection in my eyes, saves you from making mistakes and incurring consequences, because even though you have the bubble up, you are still going to want to have a mobile playstyle.
Why not convert 3 seconds 28 frames at 30fps to 3.93 seconds instead of referencing multiple units??? It's like middle school level math and communicates the information much better to the viewer...
@@evil-robot but he specifically used "X seconds Y frames" which imo is less clear than decimals since most people don't think in 30fps and "just shy" doesn't allow for precise comparison
@@evil-robot I did watch some of it yes. Got pointless continuing once it was clear he wasn't 'testing' anything, he just created environments that suited his forgone conclusion/opinion. Yea no use the storm star and a shield .. you can tell you don't play vanilla. A morgan will one shot you in magic gear with 1 food health item . The staffs are supporters so solo magic is a bad idea ..and in a groupe the best way is 1 guy runs klossen the rest run storm star or axes klossen knockback is king and with the vine lock its a easy target for axes and chain lightning is awesome with large groups. . Maybe use less cheats and play the game . Also the colour of the damaged is a indicator to what they are weak or resistant to its not that hard to work out dude .
I respectfully disagree. As long as you stay bubbled, you can kite the Morgan around, killing it with the frost staff while avoiding its damage. That's with 1 stam and 2 eitr foods. If you've got a skelly from your Raising the Dead staff (also bubbled) you can do significant damage while it distracts the Morgan. The skelly won't last long but it gives you a slight head start. Problems arise if you attract other mobs while kiting. I just run away in that situation. However, solo magic is absolutely a viable play style. Oh, and nice video, FireSpark.
@steveoswald7554 yea its a valid play style. But magic has its limitations and in the servers I play in the mages die alot simply by being overwhelmed by enemies and unable to tank any real hits .yea when you got magic to spare and can keep your bubble up and keep your distance it will work but you get snuck up on by a 1 or 2 star askvin or valk then your in a world of trouble .. a melee build would be fine in that situation a mage runs or dies
Battlemage hybrid works great playing solo. Flametal helm Embla robes and Ash cape gets you above 100 armor, can be reasonably tanky and still decent eitr sustain. 2 eitr 1 hp food. I bring cape and embla hood switches too.
He honestly doesn't play the game at all. he just logs in to make up fake tests that are meaningless :) If he did actually play he'd know that. And a morgen won't one-shot you in full magic gear with 1 health food on 'normal' settings. It probably would on high difficulty or with multiple friends in same instance scaling its health and damage up. But it would definitely hurt yea :) I solo magic build hard core in Ashlands, it's vastly superior to melee. But I'm also not stupid. I use magic robe/trousers, and highest armor helmet i can get. To try keep armor high, while getting the most out of Eitr regen and movement speed. Mobility is king, especially in Ashlands.
Frost Hammer has been my favorite.
Ashlands is epic. A worthy foe for a Viking, and worthy of the drama.
embrace your new best friend the Stone Golem in the Mountain. they'll help you increase your Elemental Magic level without having to find another target to shoot those icicle at cuz they immune to ice.
I'm fairly certain the two-handed swords have multi-target penalty unlike the one-handed swords
Lol, I use the troll meteor to pop.copper.nodes and gather grausten faster. I then kite him around and use him as my wood cutter.
I found that the silver sword worked really well as it has high spirit
is this game worth the 10 bucks?
It is worth much more! It has SO much content already, and it's not even fully done (I think one biome and the ending is all that's left, seven biomes are complete). That is, if you are OK with survival mechanincs. If you have resource gathering crafting building etc., it may not be for you.
its worth 50,00 USD easy, my friend. I would pay it without think twice. ;)
I got 1600 hours out of the game so far, 10 bucks is a steal, and its got more content coming
Yes. Really good and cheap game to play with friends
600+hrs and counting. Vs 60+hrs on AAA games with 60 usd
And when you switch to the gem variant
(wich is what he should have been using in the test, because no one thinks its a good idea to run plain nidhogg, but it would of gone against his argument had he used a gem nidhogg as example because you have to take their effects into account, wich you should because mistwalker has effects )
Anyway the gem variant gos back to level 1 no matter what level the base weapon was...
Aside from warning people not to waste materials upgrading base weapons
My point was that the mistlands counter part is not the base nidhogg.
@@capatheist The answer is no.
Raising skill to 100 will be unreachable for most users, including me, I guess, without cheating. Dying, especially at higher skill levels, hurts and adds to partially lower damage when fighting multiple mobs at the same time which again increases the likelihood of you dying in that process.
Where did I say in the video you should or could reach level 100?
@@Firespark81 No need to get defensive here :)
Sure, I get it.
Man, a lost all my skills in Ashlands. I dont remove the skulls on map that show were i died. Just in arrival at beach map get covered with skulls.
getting 100 in your primary weapon + run and jump is extremely easy without any extra effort
@@Peppanomaly I was about to say this, I’m 89 run, 88 jump and 81bow as it’s my primary weapon, also help if you study the biome you’re in and get use to the attack animations of the enemies
I would recommend the frostner over the mistwalker, because of the knockback
Other thing ou have to consider is that if you are fightin in a real combat experience in Ashlands its really rare the time you can go hammer on an enemy for 4 seconds straight without needin to dodge or kite something around. This is where the DoT of Mistwalker comes in handy... when you are strikin once, kiting around, strikin again, dodgin and such everytime you are not hittin the enemy at least they are slowed down and receivin damage over time, thus making a faster and easier kill than with the flat Flametal Sword's damage.
"krom is weak" bruh.
the special attack is a guaranteed stagger.
the charred warriors walk right into it and they are weak in their attack animation.
Killed Lord Reto with Krom, if you master the backwards jumping charge attack, you are unstoppable
(your weapon is gona break fast)
Demolisher is a must have as you gona get overrun pretty fast.
You forgot about Silver Sword from mountains. 93 slash and 45 spirit damage at level 4.
Nope I didn't it just didn't make it into the video 😁
@@Firespark81 I tested it, works pretty well against single enemy, most likely as good as mistwalker in terms of pure damage.
So many people about this sword. Do I really need to make a video showing it's trash?
Naaah, Only Silver Sword! 93 slash 45 spirit and Only use 12 stamina! My favorite choice (except boss faights and asksvins)
thats a good point, the much lower stamina use is very useful, especially if you're running a lot. Do you usually just use the standard combo or the heavy?
I've been able to use the maxed silver sword to complete the Ashlands. It very effective when parrying. But not the best for crowd control
What about Berserkir axes with lightning gem? They are the king of DPs.
Nothing even comes close to their DPS for real
Especially in a large fight, watching the lightning cross a whole group is something else
King of double penetrations? That is brutal, smh
makes sense that the mistwalker doesnt stagger cuz the one disadvantage to frost is the fact it doesnt deal stagger, so mistalker has only 75 stagger while the nidhõgg has ~135
Luckily that chill does work!
Guess I’m upgrading that staff too, seems it’s coming with when I do finally enter Ashlands!
use the silver sword in test since it has the highest "holy" dmg on any weapon.
It really is a shame that the Himmin Afl isn't that good of a weapon even though its one of my personal favorites. They need to show more love to the Atgeirs.
Yea we need a frost one.
Im running the lightning berserker axes and while I haven't tested damage they are quite insane.
@@chilairearts4238 that's a solid strategy, maybe that will help me decide which bow upgrade I want to do xD I've been torn
Mistwalker still good
They did buff it! I noticed it a few days ago it got buffed on release.
I still use the fire staff a lot. does good damage its AoE & has a knockback on every hit, the staff of wild is kinda bananas too
Fire staff is best siege weapon! Use it all the time.
Was searching for this video last night before going to sleep and finally found it this morning😂
Staff of the wild's vines get the shield from staff of protection, situational but incredibly useful if utilized properly
Is there any point to the sneak skill in the Ashlands?
If you have 30 fps and its 28 frames in then its 28/30 seconds, or 0.93 seconds.
There is only one issue there. It doesn't chill. Lol
I have an idea for those blood swords I just need more time to do proper testing and such. If only I didn't need sleep lol
@@Firespark81 My initial idea was mainly the Slayer, since Storm favors fast attacks. Singular larger hits might stagger more? lol.
Well best of luck on taking a nap...then make the video ;)

Please look at the Charred Archers. Frost arrows fo massive damage to them. Far more bonus damage then other weapons
@@Jonahhi I agree against the other charred, but the archers get 2 or 3 shotted
@@jamesrobinson5302 the archers arent especially vulnerable to frost arrows, they just simply have that low hp.
??? but you can buff the Ashlands weapons with the crystals.
I agree. I would like to see kill times with, blocking, dodging, etc. I bet the DoT pulls significantly ahead
(Within your defensive window)
While you're right that smacking something twice with a higher base damage is quicker, I think there's value to be able to do constant damage when you're unable to sit and swing for the hills.
@Xendrasch I see, thanks for clarifying. I did have that misunderstanding
Using the basic combat mechanics you cannot stagger charred, trying out more advanced mechanics like the block combo/jump combo/ power combo ect. may induce a stagger. There are more videos out there that can explain this and with practice you can shred much faster even with basic iron gear.
Also, Elemental Damage doesn't generate stagger, meaning only the slash portion will (Except lightning damage which does contribute stagger).
What about Nidhogg the primal with the root effect?
They are immune to poison. So while if the root procs it would be great but its random and you miss out on some damage.
¡Muchas Gracias! Gr8 video
Depends on situation, if solo Frostner is best as you can juggle multiple enemies safely with minimal risk of death although Mistwalker is very good as well. I do wonder how all the other silver weapons would do like silver sword et cetera.
Frostner does stagger the charred as well fyi.
I do like frostner as I stated in the video it did do well. My issue is its range is a bit rough to deal with at times and if I am suggesting a weapon to people to use. I want them to have the rande MW provides.
@@msarilyn7677Frostner only stagger with its blunt damage which is a small part of its total damage. The frost and spirit damage doesnt stagger.

Good luck.

I’m struggling to settle a foothold because the spawn rate of mobs is unrealistic
Skill issue
This likely just means that you have a few spawners nearby. I recommend locating those as soon as you can to destroy them. Once they are gone the spawn rates are much more manageable. What I would do is find a spot out on the water, perhaps on one of the Grausten pillars, to set up a first portal (just in-case) then crash land onto shore and focus down all the nearby spawners.
@@longjohnlongdong4692 yes… but honestly it’s preferable for those who just like to build. I understand the fighting mechanics, I’m no stranger to PvP. It’s quite entertaining 😋

Flametal sword!

Yea exactly Fla-metal Sword. That's what I say in the video.
at 30 frames per second, 28 frames would be 0.933s
Bro nidhög the thundering is isane in groups of enemy's
You snoozed on the best weapon against charred warriors - the demolisher. Aoe damage + knockback and possibly stun is hard to beat. Mistwalker is great all around, and especially vs askvin and morgen. But imo there is no single "best" Ashlands weapon. Different weapons shine vs different enemies, as always.
I feel like no one talks about how broken the staff of the wild is. No other weapon let me kill multiple 2 star morgens as fast or without getting hit
Lvl 47 magic. 51 run. I use the fenris set with askvin cape. 2 eitr foods 1 stamina food. I run circles around everything and the vines just go to town killing things. I never get touched.
@@poncho08ducharme I personally find feather cape to make the strategy even more reliable but I guess you don’t even need it
@@austinrobinson8130 I keep both on me and hotswap between the two.
Mistealker still best weapon range/stamina/damage
Flame metal sword is suck
You’re illiterate.
That's why you enchant them lol, thundering nidhogg is busted.

Magic rules, melee drools! Thanks for the vid.
I didn't say it was better I said I found mistwalker easier but that frostner was totally a viable option and you should totally keep using it if you already have been.
kinda washed I think
I prefer the mistwalker because it takes less hits to kill enemies and I prefer that in a hellish environment like ashlands
Listen to all my words not just half of them lol
On top of that I even explained why I feel this way so I'm not going to repeat myself here 😁
misleading IMO.
Because "just shy of 4 seconds" communicates it much better to the average viewer
@@evil-robot but he specifically used "X seconds Y frames" which imo is less clear than decimals since most people don't think in 30fps and "just shy" doesn't allow for precise comparison

Idk man, this video seems random and all over the place.
Solo magic is a bad idea? OK buddy. lol
But it would definitely hurt yea :)
I solo magic build hard core in Ashlands, it's vastly superior to melee. But I'm also not stupid. I use magic robe/trousers, and highest armor helmet i can get. To try keep armor high, while getting the most out of Eitr regen and movement speed. Mobility is king, especially in Ashlands.
