How to play Fairy Fountain, exactly the way it sounds in a Zelda game! You can grab the sheet music by following the links in the description.
Which other Zelda tunes have you seen me perform that you'd like a tutorial for?
Interesting point about this piece not being written for harp originally, making it difficult to play. It’s easy to forget the human element when writing music these days. As a composer, I would love to get some insights about your experiences writing for harp, so a video about your writing process would be my request. Also, I really liked the shots of the intricate footwork involved. Is that quite common for harpists, or is it purely a symptom of the tune having not been written with a real harp in mind?
AMAZING CONTENT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM PLEASE SHARE MORE, BIG FAN FROM KENT
UWAUAHHH >.
@@ayembic7933 I love your enthusiasm, haha
@@steveopenshaw1219 the modern pedal harp was invented to give access to all keys and greater potential for chromaticism, and people have been writing mental stuff for us that involve tonnes of footwork since the beginning (around 1890)! Not everyone is crazy about doing it because it's a lot of effort, but I'm pretty partial to a pedal dance.
Jesus Christ is calling everyone from everywhere to repent of their wicked ways. Therefore, if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God rose Jesus from the dead you will be saved. And for now on, love, obey and seek Jesus with all your heart, soul, and mind. (For Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.)
I had a massage a couple of weeks ago and my therapist played your Song of Time album during the session. Afterwards we got to connect over being both Zelda and Amy Turk fans. Super cool experience.
As a lever harp player thank you for including a lever friendly duet!
Low key ocarina off to the side, love it. Your room looks magical with all the lights and I love your outfit! I'm a musician and the harp mystifies me. Thanks for breaking this down, Amy! 🙂
It almost makes me feel sad, that such a flowing, light, lyrical piece takes so much effort to play. But it goes to show how much work and passion it takes to refine one's talents! Your rendition is so incredible and perfect. This was really interesting, Amy; thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! It's putting that effort into making it sound just right, that makes playing it all the more fulfilling.
Fairy Fountain has to be one of the most iconic romantic video game songs in video game history. Pretty much every iteration of LoZ has the hero saving Zelda. The repetition in the universe of this factor represents such a drive. The fairies noticing this, holding pity to aid, and ease the weariness of Link as a holy warrior realized in a physical reality to balance the light and darkness.
I love the demonstration of the left hand so much haha. It's the only place I know of to hear the isolated left hand melody. Haha just watching and listening to her demonstration is goosebump inducingly beautiful!
This was a fun watch! I really love how you did the overlays to help summarize and illustrate some of your points. And thank you for including the cover I did with Jillian Aversa as an example 😊
Had to include you 💜
This is such a great format for a tutorial! it's so incredibly helpful to see a piece broken down this way.
Our harp queen Amy revealing her secrets!!! You have long been an inspiration as for what can be done on the harp. Specifically your dampening techniques changed mine when I play. That ability alone is invaluable, thanks for giving even more insight to baselines!
You know.... that you are too darn good. Blessed in your talent. I love Zelda Ocarina of Time.
This is so awesome! Thank you! I'm preparing to write my first piece for harp (with viola and flute). I want to get a sense of what I can reasonably ask for (from a post-graduate harpist). The way you broke down and demonstrated the parts & techniques, along with showing the pedal changes, was super helpful!
Perfect reason why you're still my Harper Hero.
This just makes your performance of the song that much more astounding. Wow!
Thank you very much, very very interesting ! Im learning how to fix harps, and so I start learning playing the instrument, Im very glad I found your work !
Thanks for your wonderful video! I've always loved your performing. More on harp techniques please!!! 🥰
I’m working on a version of Fairy Fountain and this is super helpful! Thank you!
I still put your playthrough on at night to fall asleep, brilliant
Beautiful
Awesome video!
Haha this is like the song I've always wanted to play ever since I started the harp. Thank you so much, I feel like I'll soon reach a sufficiant level to take up this challenge ! Can't.wait
You are a Legend!
I love this! I just did a marimba fairy fountain cover on my channel. Inspirational and informative!
That is so cool. You are a master and make it look easy!
Those earrings are 🔥 Great video.
I haven't formally played any instruments in a few decades but I really found this insight into your musical approach very interesting!
Thanks for sharing. I certainly welcome for of this, if you so choose to make more.
I could have Just the bass notes as a ringtone
This is so beautiful! I always loved harps they seem so angeliic! ❤️❤️❤️
Mind blown at the feet part. And I thought piano was hard.
I love this video!
Brilliant! I don't play the harp but I really enjoyed this video anyway, I'd be delighted to see more videos like it :) Thank you for all your hard work!
Yay and thank you!
Thank you so much for this - I've been looking for a VGM piece to use as a study/warmup.
I might take small sections of this and after 10 years, I'll be able to learn Din's Fire?
I'm still a novice at harp (roughly ABRSM grade 3 harp... lol), so I will do it at 1/4 speed or something. Excited to try it!
Hi Amy - I noticed a slight ambiguity in the notation - In bar 5, there's a C-natural in the LH when the C pedal is in the sharp slot (ie, the C-natural symbol is half a bar too late?). It's not a big deal, and I think any Zelda fan will realize when they try it anyway :) . Thanks for selling your arrangement!
I’m far from being harpist but surely I love this piece!
Nice tutorial!!
Thank you Amy for your time and effort into this series.
Fascinating :-)
Good walkthrough of basic harp mechanics too. Well done.
Wow, I had a real appreciation for your music Amy before this video with no understanding of how the harp works and now my mind is blown. This is incredible and your are amazing.
I salute every harpist. Such an unusual and gorgeous instrument to share your life with. My respects 🧚♀️❤🧚♂️
As a casual pianist, this video made a lot of sense and made me want to play more and experiment more with different instruments! Great work :)
Well, I don't play any instrument at all, but I did find amazing your explanation.
Let me curious about the pedals though. I had no idea there are so many and that there is that much positions for each one of them.
This was so fascinating! Please do more song breakdowns, harp technique talks, etc!! :)
I had to see if there was an orchestral arrangement for this piece -- and there is! It has two harps... Yeah... Major props to you and others who can do it on one!
this is so interesting!! lots of love
Thank you Amy, would definitely like more videos like this please. I love this piece, but need a solo lever harp as I do not have anyone to practice a duet with. 😊
You can always just play Harp 1! Or you can do what I do, and record yourself playing Harp 2 so that you're your own duet partner 🙂
Thanks Amy, I think I'll have a go at that 😊
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with the world. ♥️
I’m not a harpist but I really enjoyed this video. When you showed the pedals, it blew my mind. I’ve never seen harp pedals before so seeing how many there were and that each one has five positions just 🤯
It's three positions per pedal, thankfully (three's enough!)
@@amyturkharp Oh! lol I was counting the two locked positions too, but is the use of those at the discretion of the musician? I should probably watch that other video you linked 😅
As a beginner harpist, even though this song seems pretty far beyond my current ability, watching you go through all the details was really fascinating! Thank you!
This was an amazing explanation. As a pianist/keyboardist, this is absosmurfinlutely way above my level. On the other hand, the notes you played...I've heard stuff I never even knew was THERE; I'm generally accustomed to the very first iteration from A Link to the Past, where you're first greeted with it at the file select screen...and I never even knew most of those notes were there!! (And I don't usually miss stuff like that)
Great work on this! Lots of dedication really made this amazing! Very educational and entertaining. Keep up the great work!
This brilliant Amy! So interesting to see how you break down this piece. I learned loads and would love to see more videos like this. Also I love your backdrop, looks so magical!
This is really helpful! Thank you!
Even broken down into stages it's so beautiful. Koji Kondo is amazing! Love your stuff!!!
❤❤❤❤
will there be natural and sharp all together in one bar? if so, how to change it with petal?🤪
Hi Amy ,you always played à music fromage zelda ,do you Know Revel army by final fantasy, is a so wonderfull music keep going Amy
I love your music. Thank you for showing us how complicated it is, you make it look and sound so effortless. I would love to see analysis of Song of Healing (my favorite of yours). Thank you again for sharing.
It’s quite incredible to see the level of skill and dedication that goes into learning how to play this song, I couldn’t even learn how to play the recorder in grade 6. I know you mentioned that fairy fountain is synonymous with the harp on RUclips. There is a pianist on RUclips named Erik correll(Erik C piano man)who composed an etude of great fairy’s fountain that’s quite good. If you’re interested here is the link
m.ruclips.net/video/nhIriLZUXX0/видео.html&noapp=1
You’re my favorite musician 😭❤️
Amy.. just wondering, do you like to listen to kid Rock??
I'm not a harpist, I'm a violist and sometimes when you feel a bit out of it this is just the content I need. To get a glimpse into someone else's practice bubble and see if there's anything I can take from their way of practicing and use in my own practicing. This time it was focusing on one hand at a time. So thank you so much for sharing and looking forward to your future music!
Eres magia ✨
omg... your room, looks like Ambrosia. ^^
omg its reincarnated ZELDA in the real world. I wanna learn how to play this song on the harp so bad. :( I'm so inspired!! :D
Woah, I wore my black Zelda t-shirt to work today (the one with a black vinal Crimson Loftwing and Triforce) that I haven't worn in years and you released this vid. And also, today is the northern Hemisphere's Equinox. The universe is in line today. Happy first day of Spring!
I would loooooove to hear you talk about technique more! I play lever harp but I still really enjoyed this video!
Do you have any advice for someone with a cheap folk harp trying to get into playing classical music - is it possible on a lever harp? I want to try it but, as you probably know, pedal harps cost a small mortgage, so it's not something I can easily buy, so just wondering if there's a way I can try it... is it a case of "find some pieces that fit my harp's range", or can it simply not be done without the £12k entry cost?
It's absolutely possible - check my Q&A video and the links in the description of this video x
I know that in this piece there are some chromatics that you need to use pedals for, but would there be any way to play this on a lap harp?
If your lap harp has levers, you can play my duet version!
You are very talented and pretty
I’m going to hide my comment within yours ^U^
You can pause the video at any point and she’s soooo beautiful.
@@munnymic very beautiful! I've been subscribed for a few yrs I think. She is also really good on the ocarina.
thank you! I want to be able to play this on my harp😄
I don’t play harp and I loved this! Thanks Amy!
Thank you :D now i need a Harp hahaha you are a greath teacher
wow 10 years, that is real commitment
I learned lots of other music in that time obviously, Fairy Fountain just became a yardstick for seeing how much progress I'd made!
It's still really incredible to see people put in the time and master something that's beautiful
❤️❤️❤️
Can this be played on a harp with no lever?
No, you need levers for all those chromatic notes!
I like this video because I look at beautiful and genius woman! I wish you to be happy!
you are beautiful) it is also my favorite after Zora's domain, I love that video of yours/ thank you
Thank you for sharing! I never realized it was such a difficult song to play, but you pull it off perfectly.
Also, do you use nylon? Or gut string?
Thanks for watching! I use gut strings, I'm just really attached to the sound.
You know... I had no idea harps had so many pedals. This was very interesting and informative
Lovely accent
I am a pianist.
Fuckin sick
Would it ever be possible for a slightly condensed or simplified solo lever harp version? Perhaps with the notes in the left hand leaving some room for the lever changes-this is my dream piece, but I don’t have someone else to play with, nor access to a pedal harp!
I’m not a harpist, but I kept watching the video after the disclaimer because it’s an Amy Turk video. It must be watched. That is all.
Alright how do I get a harp
step one: have hundred/thousands of dollars and get a harp
i also have no idea where to find one :(
