First entered service with QANTAS in 1981.. I was a teenager then and they brought the 747sp to Brisbane on the 26/01 and i remember doing a tour of the first Qantas plane.. It was an awesome experience as a child !
Awesome trip down memory lane... Amazing how every country seemed to fly the 747-Classic, and some of those airlines (like Olympic and Alitalia) probably don't even fly heavies to YSSY anymore...also great to watch the beautiful, longer-range, higher-flying, solid-flapped and taller-tailed 747-SP making an appearance :-))
Great video! I remember back in those days driving to the airport half of the planes were painted in red and the other half were painted in blue. One half was qantas and the other half, of course, was ansett. Was a truly spectacular sight to see that combination of colours but I have to say I reckon ansett really had the best looking logo even to this day! brings back memories!
Loved those days working in the travel industry when most of those airlines actually flew into Australia. Seeing the Ansett 747 was great and a favourite, Air Pacific livery, affectionately called "the flying fruit tingle."
To this date Qantas have not wanted to invest any time in working with us... maybe one day they will realize that just by being on this You Tube channel alone they would get 100x more You Tube exposure than on their own channel... but if they don't, so be it... Right now there are more airlines willing to work with us than we are able to handle.... and as far as Lufthansa, thats a whole other story... but thats for another day ;)
Great to see the 747 Special Performance appear first in this video… the SP flew higher, longer and faster than any 747 variant of the day. At 5:00 the amazing 747-338 Classic with Nalangi Dreaming and new extended ulivery departs-a frequent sight above Sydney back then :-)
Man, those were the years when there were more 747's flying than in any other time in the 20th or 21st century...

The 747 was and still is the king of the sky , an honour to have lived the years when they were glorious in it's peak

Good old times, where planes were allowed to make loads of noise! Now, it's all about cutting the db's, unfortunately. :(
