    I had flew the ZS ZAN Lebombo on the Johannesburg - New York City in the early 1990s. It had everything you could ask for from a trans-atlantic cruiser. Luxury leather seats and both personal screens and a giant one. Those days, airlines used to have well detailed manuals about the aircraft; engine type, power, etc.

    • @gabrieljoseph2010
      @gabrieljoseph2010 5 лет назад

      I still remember those days. Every specification of the aircraft in SAA's fleet was in the Flying Springbok.

    A once proud and efficient airline. SAA now sadly going bankrupt.

    • @GoodVideos4
      @GoodVideos4 Год назад +2

      It was also considered to be one of the best airlines in the world. Boeing even got some of their customer needs for the aircraft from SAA,
      It was in the days of the orange tails. And, to think that orange tails returned to the South African skies, for a while unfortunately, with Mango Airways.

    • @tonynz9954

      @@GoodVideos4 And to think that I was berated on RUclips by an Aussie plane spotter from Perth because I liked the orange springbok tails.. He said that the springbok tail was racist. Unbelievable !!

    • @GoodVideos4
      @GoodVideos4 Год назад

      @@tonynz9954 I remember you mentioning that before. It is yes. And, Australia had even worse racism than South Africa. In South Africa they were pushed aside. In Australia they had ruthless treatment.
      In the late 1980's the outside world was very hostile towards South Africa. Yet, there were countries, like elsewhere in Africa, that had far worse atrocities. But, that didn't mean much, or anything, to the outside world. And, the two countries that picked on South Africa the most, were the two countries that had the most to hide, namely the USA and Australia.
      And, the kangaroo tail would not be regarded as racist.

    • @tonynz9954
      @tonynz9954 Год назад

      @@GoodVideos4 Very well said. Hypocrisy is rife especially in the USA and Australia. Let's not forget that the British used to go Abbo hunting for sport in colonial times. They had not imported foxes back then.

      @@tonynz9954 Late to the conversation, but I'm pretty sure they meant the livery was offensive due to the connotations of it. While the springbok livery is utterly gorgeous, the era of South Africa it's associated with is the issue, not the livery's design at all. It would be a potential similar negative reaction if Korean Air brought back the livery they had prior to their current one as a retro livery due to the association to the shootdown indicidents of KAL flight 902 and 007.
