I remember when it was Sakaguchi's birthday, I dropped by their FC house in FFXIV hoping to meet him. There was no one at the time but I decided to wait for few minutes thinking he's usually online. When I was just thinking of leaving, Sakaguchi suddenly appeared in front of their FC house (most likely just finished a dungeon run or teleported from somewhere else) so I luckily got the chance to say hi, greeted him a happy birthday and thanked him for giving me wonderful memories since childhood through Final Fantasy. He also gave me a sweatshirt he crafted himself (a limited time freebie he gives away because it's his nameday lol) Still one of my most prized posessions in my armoury chest to this day

@@TheCaliforniaHP He took an Executive Producer credit on X-2 as part of his severance package and was credited as Executive Producer on X. X was a Kitase directed game much like VII and VIII. It's unclear what influence Sakaguchi had on X if any, given the close release period to The Spirits Within. Sakaguchi was directly responsible for XI's MMO and Everquest focus as a concept as well as its inclusion as a mainline game. He was also heavily hands on with IX, and responsible for the general theming and core concepts used in VII, before letting Kitase, Nomura, Nojima, et al maintain creative control on the project.
XII was a Matsuno game until he had his stress related breakdown and Ito then took up the slack for him. Sakaguchi had no involvement. There was a lot of silly controversy at the time surrounding XII that the "series had ended," without Sakaguchi's involvement, yet here we are in 2023 and XVI.

I think Square Enix have a good idea of how to proceed with the FF series at this point. When it comes to remaking the old games, just give them the treatment Crisis Core was given where pretty much everything is intact and improvements are made where it makes sense without breaking the bank. For the brand new mainline installments, stick with real-time action combat and AAA quality; FF16 was a big step in the right direction, so hopefully they build on that.

@@kolebowyer3837 Definitely suits Dissidia the most. I'd rather they not put total effort into 3D models and everything related to graphics... just to slap on turn-based combat. If they want to go all-out on a remake of one of the older games and keep it turn-based, they should go for an anime stylization akin to Persona 5. Could be interesting to see them go that direction.

If anything, it would be FF6. Though, they need to finish the new FF7 sequel first.
They couldn't even be bothered to replicate the original FF8 PS1 rumble feature for Squall's critical sword strikes in the remaster. Fat chance of them putting the effort in for a full remake.

@@CorranHorn84 The rumor is FF8-10 remakes, not FF6. But only FF9 rumor has any credence at the moment.
A remaster and remake are often very different things, FF8 Remaster isn't relevant.

I think they didn't know what they were doing until FF9 and FF10.
Those are the entries where you go, these people are geniuses.
The question is who pulled the weight on those titles the most.
    Seemingly:
    Hideo minaba
    Shuko murase
    Toshiyuki itahana
    Kazushige nojima
    Daisuke watanabe
    Motomu toriyama
    Yoshinori kitase
    Tetsuya nomura
Also FF14 is awful, for the record.

      False. Even Sakaguchi ADORES XVI.
You are alone, bud. It has NEVER been about the gameplay. XVI still has all the crystals, summons, magic, Cid, Chocobos, Warriors of Light… It’s a Final Fantasy game. Deal with it.
      ruclips.net/video/WUkOzdCSaZ4/видео.html
      Cry about it, tho.
The series is DESIGNED to always evolve and always change. Kitase directed VI/VII/VIII, arguably the franchise’s “most popular” mainline titles.
Hell, using your insufferable logic, FF7 isn’t a “real” Final Fantasy game either, nor is FF8! Because they aren’t medieval fantasy like 1-6 were. FF16 is more medieval than 7/8/10/13/15… So it’s really MORE “Final Fantasy” than them.

I was DEEPLY dissapointed with the FF6 Pixel "Remaster" since the company Square hired was lazy & actually made the musical score WORSE (no creepy breathing sounds in the Caves of Narshe etc.) & took out fun accidental features the original SNES game had. I also didn't like the change they did to a lot of the English localisation. Square needs to give FF6 the PROPER respect it deserves instead of milking the over-rated & underwhelming FF7 entry. They still should've remade FF5 & FF6 before jumping to 7. You do NOT show proper respect for your franchise by skipping over 2 titles to greedily milk a more "popular" one that only gained its statues from the ignorance its fanbase who STARTED with 7 & never knew the 6 games before it.
Do not delete this comment RUclips/Siliconeria...I am being civil & speaking the truth. It is NOT uncivil to disagree with people, so stop deleting this comment just because YOU don't like the truth I am lawing bare regarding FF7's overrated status.

      Sigh
6 is popular abroad. Not even close to the same popularity in Japan. Especially compared to 7. Largely due to Woolsley taking liberties that improved the script. I love 6 but its obvious why they don't remake it.
