Nice conversation. - I love that you guys started your own studios, like Tango, Bokeh, Kojima, Striking Distance, Inflexion, Archetype, and so forth. - It's the right way to go and it allows for more unique projects to happen, rather than working for corporations that are afraid to step outside formulas because they want to guarantee sales. - So please remain as independent or autonomous as possible and you'll probably always be noticed when you stay genuine. - I'm looking forward to your upcoming games and I will even go back to the older ones mention in this video. - Thanks for all the entertainment and inspiration.

This interview (or more preferably "dialog") is very inspiring. There are not much western companies left who are using director-oriented approach. In most cases it's %some company name% %some title% that will be forgotten in 1-2 years.
On the opposite side, we all know: Keiichiro Toyama, Shinji Mikami, Yoko Taro, Fumito Ueda, Hideo Kojima, Goichi Suda, Toshihiro Nagoshi
Hideaki Itsuno, Hidetaka Miyazaki and many many more.
Japanese game dev was and remain my biggest stronghold and hope in this terms.

When I used to work at a Japanese restaurant in the late 90s, we were one of the few in NYC that actually imported this brew(it was pricey and few US customers knew that brand. For me Gravity Rush was a defining moment for games. While it may not have lit the sales charts on fire, it took me to a place as a player I’ve never been before. That is so rare in modern games. It’s not entirely the fault of game directors or studios when people have played games for decades and most things have been done before in some capacity. But finding a game so clearly made with passion and love feels so rare. Especially outside of the indie space.
Something about both Gravity Rush games just feels so magical and distinctive. I can’t even really put it into words.
I’ve never been a huge horror fan, largely because I’m a coward. I played the intro of Resident Evil as a kid, got to the zombie FMV and it came at me and I shut it off and never invested in the genre again. Lol. Took all I had to get through Parasite Eve because of some of the creepy imagery in it, but that combat system was neat. I appreciate the genre from afar by watching other people play RE, Silent Hill, Siren, Clock Tower and others. But I look forward to Slitterhead and trying to conquer my fear of the genre after all this time. Then hopefully I can tackle the rest.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing Mikami-san pouring his hearts out talking about his previous games. The tug & pull between the creator and the producer in him calls back to the other 2 parts documentaries (I know who made ALL these~), and it's something I truly respect. Mikami-san puts it well at the end. RE, SH and Siren are all horrors of its own. It is a testament of the possibilities of the 'genre', or better put, this Emotion can bring.

Thank you for doing something like that! I open a beer and drink watching this, laughing and feeling happy to listen their history! Amazing ❤️
