Love The Alchemist. I remember I first heard his stuff through my older cousins cassette tapes (Back in the 90's when I was a snotty nosed kid). Then later I got into Dilated Peoples, and I would say, him and Dre as well as a lot of 90's producers/beat makers like you said, Dilla etc. all deeply influenced my love for Hip-Hop.
You broke a lot of the things I notice in Alchs production method down very nicely and it's incredible how much this can improve modern producers methods in keeping one very important thing strong, and you point it out quite vividly. That is, to accomplish the same goal but switch it up with more uniqueness. This very aspect in production is what I believe is at the heart of all hip-hop from that period. And Alch shows it in his beat making methods, in which you point out very well and guide us through like a real boss. Thanks Nav, you are a producers delight.

Such a great video. I often find that out of convenience, time, etc. that I just use the same sounds over and over and my beats sound repetitive. But now my scope has been broadened. I need to practice playing around more with the adsr to really shape sounds to fit the idea that I have in mind rather than just saying fuck it and completely going away from my original plan. As always, very thorough Navie. Much love to everyone.

Big Oskr! I know that feeling, choosing sounds for expediencies sake. But yeah, mixing it up every once in a while and exploring new sounds can help you find cool new ways to execute ideas

Love your videos man! Long time subscriber.
For sure Alchemist is my favorite too.
I wanted to know if you can make a breakdown of his instrumental for 360 Waves, Durag Dynasty.
The beat has two parts but what intrigues me is what he did with the first part. Seems like he layered different samples, but he used the bass hits as the kicks? It's really interesting.
    Thanks for the information!

Simplicity is Genius.I learnt that moons ago in production.I learnt the best way to approach your creativity is make something that’s used sound like it’s new.To me that’s genius production.
On that note Alchemist style of production is genius,my top 10 producer of all times...

I had the Alchemist beat cd in 2001. Probably the same one you had. I used to study all his beats and the Petestrumentals.
