Dude I am glad I found your channel. I am getting this boat for my daughter. I sub'd buddy. As far as your dilemma, VIBE has great customer service as stated below, and it sounds like everyone has poured in ideas for your problem. Don't let that get you down. It is an easy fix brother. The epoxy and JB weld are the way to go IMO.
I'm glad to hear that Josey. Awesome, I think she will love it as well. And yeah Vibe has been great and responded and I have an idea of what I'm gunna do now. I'm thankful everyone pitched in their suggestions, it really helped me decide on what I'm going to do.
I live in MI, looks like K-zoo river. First check warranty, If you have to self repair. drill small hole at each end of crack, use scrap poly#2 that came with kayak or e-poxy. You may want to re-enforce both sides. Good luck from "Playin Hooky", T.H.GuitarDad, So. W, MI.
Sweet! it's actually the Flint River. It was under warranty and they have sent a new one. I still plan on self repairing this one with a borrow sonic welder (i do plan on drilling small holes at both ends like you said) thanks for the feedback GuitarDad! :)
alright, I'll try my best even though youtube comments isnt the best way to communicate lol. If you want to shoot me an email I will save you as a contact if I'm ever headed that way! Great choice on the kayak I think you'll be very pleased. I actually made a drive and bought my 110 from a dealer in Kalamazoo last summer since it was the only Vibe dealer in Michigan
I have a vibe yellowfin 110 and I had mine crack up around the seat area. The plastic on the top part of the vibe kayaks is really thin. Kinda surprised me. I contacted vibe and they were great about it. Just had to send in a few pics of the crack and they sent me a new hull for free. For this season I actually ended up picking up a kayak from a place called Blains Farm And Fleet. Its called the Lifetime Yukon. They keep having them on sale for $400. And to be honest it seems to be a much tougher boat then the Vibes. I also like the seat on it a lot more. By the way its cool to see somebody from Michigan doing the RUclips fishing as Im in Michigan myself.
Yeah they sent me a new one to after showing them the pictures. it must be a pretty common issue. I haven' heard of those kayaks, Ill have to check it out! And thanks man, it's good to hear you found me and are from the area 👍
Thanks Cory. I don’t think I’m gunna rivet the holes but I did drill holes at each end. I think I’m gunna use a metal screen to reinforce and melt the plastic and screen
That is a tough area to try welding it. I don’t know what Vibe’s warranty is, but they should take care of you. If not, consider an Old Town Topwater, same price point, but made by an American company with a great warranty. Good luck, maybe I’ll see you out on the water sometime.
That's what was thinking because of the constant seat post pressure. I just recieved email back from Vibe and it looks like they are sending a new hull, but unfortunately this has me thinking it is a common malfunction. Maybe I shouldn't have spent so much on upgrading this one... Thanks Bill for the recommendation I will check it out and hopefully see you out there 👍
I welded mine in the same spot on both sides. Then went over the whole area with jb weld 2 part plastic epoxy. Also run a one inch dowel across the front mount in the upper position. Put the bottom back aluminum frame of the seat in position then you will notice the front sits about a half inch forward from where it's supposed to. That's the case with mine anyway. Good luck.
That's genius, Thanks man! I noticed that too, that the back aluminum frame sits back too far up against the vertical wall and not deep enough down in the U shaped groove. You said you welded the crack first and then covered with the JB weld 2 part epoxy...how did you go about welding it first? A heat gun?
Hdpe is extremely easy to weld man. Head over to menards in the tool section they sell a tool shop brand "plastic welder" for about 15 bucks. The kit comes with some aluminum screen. Drill two small holes one on each end of the crack. Use the plastic welder (looks like a wood burner with a flat tip) to in bed a little piece of the screen into and around the crack, about 1/4-1/2" overlap on all sides, then melt on some new plastic over it to seal it up. Super easy nothing to worry about man
I've heard its simple, but I didn't think just welding it back together would hold with my ass weight. And now that Vibe has responded and delivered I'm going to try and fix it. I like your idea of drilling the holes at the ends of the crack and using the aluminum screen from some added strength. Thanks JDS
I got the exact same kayak. Bought it this Summer. Sorry about the crack...Vibe should make that right for sure! My biggest complaint is the rudder cord...when I go to put the rudder down, the little plastic piece doesn't keep the cord from slipping so the rudder just comes right back up...ugh. Thinking about adding a zig zag cleat and controlling it manually. The only problem is if I forget and hit some shallows my rudder could break. How has your rudder cord and stay held up?
Nice Jim! Vibe did me good and sent a new haul since it was under warranty. Surprisingly, my rudder cord has held up well and still locks in nicely to the stock cleat. I have seen some guys utilize the zig zag cleat though, but your right - it would lock it in for good and chance a rudder break in the shallows if you aren't careful.
I'm assuming the Yak is made with HDPE....High Density Polyethylene...If that's the case you could attempt a repair with a soldering iron & a clear piece of HDPE something along the line of an Epoxy mixing cup which should be marked with the type of material it was made of...Check out the Tube I'm sure someone has done a repair!!
Yes it is HDPE and I do have extra plastic of the same material I am just a bit hesitant I guess on making it worse. I'll have to do some more research on the TUBE. Thanks Wes! Unfortunately I'm finding it hard to believe that remolding the area is gunna prevent the slit from spreading once the weight from the seat is applied again!
I gotta say you got a sick ass setup, making me want to get a yak again, nice vid man! Not sure what to do about that crack though, that's a tricky one
Thanks dude! And yeah it is a tough area to fix, but t looks like Vibe has responded and sending a new one, but lots of work has already been invested in this one😅
Vinnie, did you do a warranty with Vibe? If you are the original owner you should call Vibe or go on line and fill out the warranty and send pictures. Mine did the same thing and within 24 hours I had a reply telling me my new yak was on its way. Fantastic customer service for sure.
Thanks for watching Phillip. I found out it was still under the one year warranty and sent in a claim. They do have great customer service and sent me a new one immediately as well, which was great. But it still scares me that a handful of people have had the same exact issue out of box.
Phillip Iacobacci I’m considering buying one of these .. if something like this does happen do they ship u a new one cause I don’t have a dealer near me
@@roygreene2988 Yes they should as long as they are still doing the 1-year warranty program after date of purchase. so just double check on that. I was shipped a brand new hull free of charge straight to my doorstep. Keep in mind I own the 2018 version, so I would hope if this was a common issue, they would've resolved it in the 2019 version.
Roy Greene yeah I can’t confirm if it happens or not in the 2019’s sorry. However I’ve still been cruising around on my cracked 2018 with no issues and still have the replacement packed away in the garage for the future lol
lol yeah I still haven't gotten around to it but I think your'e right, along with most others about drilling holes at each end and then plastic welding. thanks for watching!
@@PureFishermenTV I fish a lot of skinny water and I've tried one out and it handles better than my ascend. I'll be keeping my ascend for lakes and bigger rivers.

Lastly.. it is not weight bearing where the crack is... that being said I love this stuff.. amzn.to/2SutnK9 You might be able to use it to patch and seal it.
I bought it new from a dealer and they are replacing it as of response this afternoon. And when I put the seat in and sit in it there is some pressure on that back wall area where the crack is. Most of the weight is down in the U shape, but it seems like it still could cause further splitting when leaning back in the seat. Thanks for the recommendation.

@@XF15Loader Yes the new hull is supposed to arrive at my front door tomorrow. I guess I got a little worried because I put so much work into this one, come to find out the crack afterwards. Most likely the epoxy and JB like you said
Drill a small hole on either side of the crack and plastic weld the crack. Might reinforce it with some mesh.
Thanks David, I think your'e right about going with the mesh reinforcement. This is an area where pressure will always be applied
